General Manager’s Monthly Report

Luis Pardal General Manager

t is great to be here in Macon! I am honored to be a part of the Brickyard staff. As a Team, we are always

diligently looking for opportunities to continue to improve services and give attention to details to ensure that

the staff continues to grow and you enjoy your membership. It is always hard and sad when one of our Team

players does move along, but just like any other field, the Club Business continues to operate in the same

manner. We will have the employees that will call Brickyard home for the remainder of their career, we will

have others that will look to further opportunities in their career and personal life. We are excited to announce

that Mattie Lewis has become the Executive Chef with our Head Chef departure.

We are also continuing to increase our Food and Beverage social events per Member’s requests and the

demand. We are now offering 2 for 1 Dinners, Express Lunch, $10 Diners, Live Music, Friday Night Theme

Diners, and other exciting Club Sponsored events as we approach the Holiday season.

As mentioned in the August Newsletter, the membership committee continues to search for new membership

programs that are appealing to prospective members who share the same culture, value and standards as you.

With our new fiscal year beginning October 1st, we will be revamping our membership drives to add valuable

programs which are sure to be appealing to your family, friends and business partners. Christina Raimo, along

with the Advisory and Membership committees, are in the final stages of finalizing an outstanding membership

marketing program.

I recently attended a seminar for the Club Managers from all over the United States. These sessions have been

invaluable for a number of reasons-gaining knowledge, networking with peers, and sharing “best practices”.

Brickyard is not immune to many of the same issues my fellow General Managers face in their Clubs, but I

want you to know how proud I am of this Club, from the appreciative membership to the elegant facilities, one

of the best golf courses in the South, to the invaluable staff. It is always a pleasure to work in a place you love

to be in each day!

In concluding my thoughts for the month, I would like to mention a quick note, but a well deserved thank you

to the hard work of our often unseen (as she arrives very early each morning and provides noticeable results)

housekeeper. Deborah Robinson is responsible for the cleanliness of the Club’s facilities. Cleaning is one of the

most under appreciated professions, but it is so vital to our success in my opinion!

Thank you for your support. See you soon at the Club,

I

A Membership Message from Christina Raimo

am excited to tell you about all the great things we have in store for you, as Members, as well as for your Prospective Member friends and family!

One thing that I have realized since starting here at the Brickyard is that my job greatly relies on analysis. The greater a perspective I can gain on our Members- what they enjoy and what they would like to see more of- the better I can aim to please with our amenities, special events, and other offerings. I have made a conscience effort, so far, to spend time analyzing our Club and the membership structure. In considering what our Members love about the Brickyard, and what you would like to see more of, I have been working to add new amenities and benefits of Membership. Many amenity and reciprocal possibilities can by mutually beneficial for both our Members as well as local business owners. If you have any services or amenities that your company may be willing to provide, please do contact me to discuss the potential. In order to gain more of your feedback, I have created a short Anniversary Survey. I will be mailing this to each family at the date of your annual renewal. If you would, please take the time to fill this out and return it to me. I would greatly appreciate learning your feedback and thoughts! Please do feel free to suggest anything that you would like to see more of, or things that we are currently doing and you would like to see continued. Of course, do not let your feedback wait until your anniversary date. If you notice something that you love, or something that you would like to be done differently, or something new for us to try, please do stop by the Club to discuss it with me! I am always welcome to new ideas and suggestions, and especially, thinking outside of the box– it‟s what keeps my job fun and different! I have spent time visiting other Private Clubs and talking to their Membership Directors to get ideas and a more broad perspective of membership. I have also began researching popular Membership Drives at other Clubs. Working closely with our Membership and Advisory Committees, we are in the process of adding some great new membership classifications and opportunities to meet your needs and wants as well as the desires of those pondering membership. Revising our Corporate Membership and adding a “Social Golf” classification are just a few of our items “hot off the press”. We are also revising our Sponsorship Incentives to be much more desirable by our Members. This will start with a special Christmas Gift offering for each of our Members. Our focus now is on updating our marketing information and materials. Some of the new opportunities will be available as soon as October 1st, while others will help us ring in the New Year! You will be receiving much more detailed information about these drives in the days to come. I am very excited about the possibilities these new opportunities bring, both for the Club as well as for our Current and Prospective Members.

I look forward to hearing from you! My Direct Line: (478) 330-6469 or email: [email protected].

e have accomplished quite a lot on the course in the

last month. Most of these tasks help ensure a healthy stand

of grass for the future. We finished our last aerification of

the greens. We are continually grooming and sanding them

to try and keep the grain down to a minimum. We spiked,

verti-cut and sprayed a plant growth regulator on the

fairways. When we verti-cut, this helps to stand the grass up

before we cut it and helps thin the grass out for a better

playing surface. The grooming of the greens is the same

thing but to a lesser degree. We verti-cut all tees and

fertilized them. We verti-cut all collars and approaches.

We had several trees and broken limbs removed that were

dead or dying and we had the stumps removed.

This month we will be getting ready for the

Brickyard Collegiate tournament. This is generally just

keeping everything maintained and just fine tuning some

things. We will be fertilizing and

pre-emerging the entire golf course on

Tuesday, September 6th.

See you on the course,

Golf Tip of the Month ast month’s pop quiz question asked, “Is a rut made

by a tractor tire considered ground under repair?” No.

Such a rut is not a hole made by a greenkeeper. The

committee would be justified in declaring a deep rut to be

ground under repair, but not a shallow indentation made

by greenkeeping equipment. Rule 25-16

This month’s pop quiz question asked, “A player, having

searched for a minute for his original ball, abandoned it

and walked forward to continue play with his provisional

ball. Before he played the provisional ball, some

spectators found the original ball before the five minute

search period expired. What is the ruling?”

Best wishes,
