As you embark upon your weekend activities, I would like to highlight some of what we have been up to this week at BBS. Our BBS focus this week has been Intellectual Curiosity, which has been timed to coincide with our inaugural Science Week. Students and staff have been actively involved in exploring, researching, experimenting and thinking of Science related matters in a variety of ways. Special thanks to Mr. Siam and Ms. Rene for leading this initiative throughout the Primary and Secondary schools. We hope that your children have enjoyed learning and discovering new things, but most importantly that they have had their intellectual curiosi- ty stimulated and they have been thinking. As adults, we certainly need to think a lot, in our professional and private lives. Intellectual curiosity is also something that we place significant value on here at BBS and we encourage and help our children to think for them- selves on a daily basis. The ability to think is a skill, one that needs to be learnt and most importantly practised; however, how many times do we make the time to stop and think? How can we encourage our children to de- vote specific time to thinking? The concept of ´thinking outside the box´is still used by some as a revolutionary one, but the truth may be that it is rather antiquated to think in terms of boxes to begin with. The world of Artificial In- telligence (AI) may be something new to contemporary adults, but our chil- dren, the intelligence of the future, will not be confined to thinking in box- es. We can help them make the time, or make better use of the time they have, to reflect, think and plan. These are sometimes referred to as soft skills, but in the modern world we live in they are much needed tools for life. As it was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday 21st January, I would like to leave you with his wise and thought provoking thoughts: “The function of education is to teach one to think intensely and to think criti- cally. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education.” I wish you and your families a relaxing and enjoyable weekend. Best wishes, Ciarán Cunningham-Watson Principal Belvedere British School

Letter from the Head of Primary

Dear Parents, Science Week We have had a week full of science experiments. We have had so much fun taking part in the science experiments during morning assembly, class and breaktimes. Our Secondary children have given up their own break times this week to attend our break times and to involve all our primary students in our scientific experiments. I would like to thank our Secondary Science department (Mr Siam, Ms Natalie and Mr Jay, Mr Padraig and Ms Remya) and our Primary Science coordinator, (Ms Rene) for all their time and effort to ensure this event became a success. I am very much looking forward to the next time. Student council members I am very proud to announce that our primary students have chosen the members of our student council. Next week these children will be having their first Student Council Meet-ing. If your child was chosen, please ensure that they are good role models to other stu-dents. They must arrive on time, be present at school and be dressed in the correct school uniform daily. I wish you and your families a very wonderful weekend. Kind regards Leanne Woodward Head of Primary Belvedere British School
