For many Christians, the abundant life that we hear

about on Sunday doesn't line up with our experience

Monday through Saturday. Many sincere believers

find themselves feeling stuck, frustrated, and

fatigued. If you've ever felt like you were 'going

through the motions' without experiencing true joy or

power, this may describe you.

There is good news - this was never God's idea! If

you've ever sensed that God has more in mind for

you... but you're unsure how to experience it, True

Spirituality is for you. This powerful study removes

the clutter and presents a clear, compelling, Biblical

picture of a true disciple of Jesus.

You will be challenged... You will be encouraged...

You will be stretched... You will be CHANGED. In Knowing God by Name: A Personal Encounter,

author Mary Kassian focuses on 35 Hebrew

names of God that describe His character, His

relationships, and His purpose. As you learn the

significance of each ancient word, you'll be

awestruck by the Lord's magnificence and your

heart compelled to worship and praise Him.

Chaplaincy commissioning for

Cindy Childers

Sunday, September 20 during worship

It is with great thankfulness and joy that we, the members of Simpsonville Baptist Church, endorse the chaplaincy ministry of Cindy Childers. Cindy and her husband, Randall, have been faithful members of Simpsonville Baptist Church for over 23 years. Cindy has served as a deacon, teacher and through various ministry teams at Simpsonville Baptist Church.

We have witnessed Cindy's calling and preparation for ministry, spiritual gifts, proven commitment, and biblical knowledge and practice. She has prepared for her calling by obtaining a Masters Degree of Theological Studies at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Simpsonville Baptist Church recognizes Cindy for serving faithfully on the chaplaincy staff at the Masonic home of Shelbyville, Kentucky for the past four years. We are thankful for the opportunities extended to her for future ministry growth and promotions.

What is a biblical ministry philosophy that would lend itself to healthy, growing churches? We have adopted the Great Commission as our mission statement, "Making Disciples who Make

Disciples." So, how could we better evaluate if our church is growing spiritually and fulfilling our mission? What are indicators for us being healthy and growing spiritually? What questions

could we ask and what expectations could we develop to give us more spiritually based results?

For example, are we becoming more loving and sharing? Is the fruit of the Spirit becoming more evident in our life? Are we currently serving God with the gifts and passions he as given? Are we meeting the needs of others without expecting anything in return? Are we growing in our ability to share our faith?

Have you observed that certain administrative plans, systems, and organizations can become outdated and inefficient for various institu-tions? Many evangelical denominational churches use the same administrative plan and ministry organization, structure and methods that were used generations ago. What if the plan we are following isn't giving the spiritual results God has ordained? What if our plan is inhibiting or prohibiting being spiritually healthy and growing? What if we aligned our administrative plan and ministry organization with an unwavering commitment to our mission statement of "making disciples who make disciples?"

We are seeing a discernible difference in administration plan, ministry organization, structure, methods, and approaches between new church plants and growing churches and many evangelical denominational churches. It seems like churches that are growing and, doing more than surviving, have modified not only in their administrative plan and ministry organization but their ministry philosophy. The ministry philosophy drives their administrative plan and ministry organization.

We would never change the message of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ! However, we do realize there may be more effective ways for us to be healthy and growing that involve rethinking our biblical philosophy and expectation, administrative plan, ministry organization and methods. Many churches are finding stronger biblical focus by simplifying these important functions of church.

I will be asking for some of this year's elected leadership to join me in evaluating and rethinking our ministry philosophy, administrative plan and ministry organizations. I hope and pray that this collaborative effort will cause us to be more healthy and growing in God's mission.

As a Southern Baptist church, SBC is part of the Shelby Baptist Association, the Kentucky Baptist Convention and the

Southern Baptist Convention. For those of you new to Southern Baptist life, we thought it would be a good idea to explain

what each of these entities is and does.

The Kentucky Baptist Convention is a cooperative missions and ministry organization made up of nearly 2,400 autonomous Baptist churches in Kentucky. These churches have a total membership of more than 750,000. The term “Kentucky Baptist Convention” refers to both the denomination and its annual meeting. Working through 71 local associations and in cooperation with the Southern Baptist

Convention, Kentucky Baptists share a common bond of basic Biblical beliefs and a commitment to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the entire world. Each church is self-governing under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Churches elect messengers (not delegates) to various denomina-

tional meetings, including the annual convention. The messengers determine the course of many programs, ministries and institutions of the convention and its staff as guided by the KBC Constitution and Bylaws. SBC gives 10% of all designated financial gifts to the Cooperative Program of the KBC. The illustration below gives you the basics of where your gifts are being used.

A note from Paul Chitwood, KBC Executive Director,

I’m pleased to report that KY Baptists have had great success n reaching others with the gospel

the past year. We had 14,224 baptisms, which is an increase from 13,975 the year before! That my

friends is a reason to rejoice!

Nearly 800 young people came to Christ during our summer camps at Crossings Ministries last

summer. That happened because you are committed to work together to fund one of the premier

Christian camps in America. We also witnessed 1,000 college students respond to the call to follow

Christ on campuses across the state through our Baptist Campus Ministries program.

Thank you for working together through the Cooperative Program to Reach Your World

for Christ.

There are 28 Baptist churches in Shelby County. The Shelby Baptist Association unites these churches

to work together to serve the people of Shelby County. Through the donations to the John Paul

Barnett Offering, the SBA supports the Open Door of Hope Ministry, Whitney M. Young Job Corps

Center, short term mission trips for members of local churches, Disaster Relief, and Kentucky

Changers .

Each year, the SBA sends individuals to the annual Kentucky Baptist Convention to represent Shelby County Baptists. You can

support the SBA with your financial gifts as well as your gift of time by serving on the SBA Administrative Board. SBC gives $2,000

annually to the Shelby Baptist Association.

Peter Shin is serving in New York. He and his family, (Mary, Daniel, Grace, John) started a Korean

church, called New Beginnings one year ago. While he was here, Peter served in our deacon ministry and led our weekly

prayer group. Please be in prayer for Peter as he leads the New Beginnings family.

Praises from Peter!

† The administrative part of the church is finished, like incorporating the church, getting 501(c)(3)

and state sales tax exemption, and having church logo by June.

† We had two baptisms in February.

† I completed a three-month Bible study with one couple from March to May.

† We needed more room and are now temporarily meeting in a new worship facility.

† Our home in Kentucky is pending for sale.

Prayer requests from Peter:

† New Beginnings is looking for a larger permanent Sunday worship service facility.

† Salvation for a young lady I have been leading through a three-month study which began in July.

† Salvation for 14 other Koreans whom I have met.

† That our personal and church financial needs would be met.

Melissa Brendemuehl is Serving in Honduras

Melissa serves as a house mother at Rancho Ebenezer Orphanage. In the past few months the number

of orphans who live at the orphanage has doubled with as many as six new children arriving in a week.

More children makes for a much busier day!

Recently, Melissa contracted Chickunguyna, which is a mosquito spread illness which is similar to

Lyme Disease. After 5 days of complete bed rest, she is better, but the effects and joint pain can last

for years.

We are excited to announce that Melissa will be coming home for a visit in November! Please be in

prayer for her as she continues her ministry to the children at Rancho Ebenezer.

Prayer Needs

That her body would remain healthy and strong and continue to heal.

Financial assistance as she needs to replace inflatable furniture (much less expensive) in her apartment.

Increased monthly financial support to enable her to continue to serve in Honduras.

You can keep in touch with Melissa at:[email protected]

August was the month of the Young Adult (those 18-30 years old) among

Baptists in Brazil and being the counselors of the group at our church, we

were busy! We had a cookout and picnic and 4 different personal evangelism

trainings for this group. We were blessed to have our young adults preaching,

leading worship and leading praise during the month. We finished

August with a young adult retreat based on 1 John 3:16-19.

Pray for strength and stamina for us and that the Lord would

use us for His glory!

Leading Worship Sunday, September 6

As early as five years old while growing up in Dayton, Ohio, Steve Ladd felt the call of God to minister through song. The

son of an evangelist, the youngster would mature to become one of the most well-liked and respected group member for

some of America’s most award-winning Christian music ensembles like Gold City and The Anchormen. Although still con-

sidered a young artist, Ladd has spent the last four years traveling extensively both domestically and internationally. Perform-

ing inspirational songs like “Preach the Word” has become a personal anthem of encouragement Ladd takes wherever he

goes and he reports “God moves and lives that are broken and hurting are leaving changed and encouraged at my services.”

Ladd’s newest project On My Own was produced by award winning co-producers Michael Sykes and Michael English, and is

a power-house of music for all tastes. And although the last few years Ladd has been nominated for “New Artist of the Year,”

has had four Top 40 Singles, toured with Gaither Vocal Band member Michael English and is featured with the Stamps

Quartet on Alan Jackson’s newest “Precious Memories” CD, he feels most used when working with Candy Christmas’ Bridge

Ministry to the Homeless on Tuesday nights in the Nashville area. Steve, his wife and two children are also ministry

partners with Compassion International. Listen to Steve’s latest hit Heaven at steveladdmusic.com!
