PRESIDENTS MESSAGE: Greetings from the air conditioning of my sewing room. I am trying to finish some workshop projects that I have put off too long. I trust this finds all of you cool and relaxed and having a terrific summer. We have some fun things happening before my year ends and I can't wait to share them with you.
August brings the patchwork stars and we have a great lineup. Wonderful ladies each with her own style and panache. Come enjoy seeing and learning about their quilting experience and view their creations. August also bring the Mystery Retreat headed by our own Rita Jones. September will be the ice cream social for our installation of new
officers. Come support the members who will lead us next year. We will vote on the following ladies who have volunteered and take any nominations from the floor. They are: President-elect Phyllis Morrow and Anna Lee Joanne Burkhart as 1st Vice President 2nd Vice President for Future Programs will be Barbara Clemens 2nd Vice President for Current Programs will be Kim Beckley Secretary Gail Mitchell Treasurer Mary Fitzgerald

JINGLE MINGLE
It’s That Time Again:
Yes, Jingle Mingle is Monday, November 27, but the planning
starts now.
I have just a couple reminders……………
There is a Best Themed Attire Contest with a $25.00 winner.
This year’s theme will be “Let’s Get Flakey”. Just think
Snowmen, the song Frosty the Snowman and the movie
Frozen. I’m giving you a heads up since the next garage sale
you see could have the “snow wonderful thing” that would be
perfect as a re-purposed party adornment piece. Remember,
the awards at this event are not won by the girl wearing her
best Tiffany jewelry.
Also, this is the event we need a little help from everyone.
We need handmade items donated that will be used as raffle
type prizes for the Lucky Can Drawing.
Also, we need items to use in the themed baskets which will
also be part of the drawings.
In return for your donations, you’ll receive tickets for the
drawings the night of the event. The entry with the most
tickets in the can gets a $25.00 gift card.
I’ll start taking donations at the August meeting. Thank you
for your help.
Joanne Burkhart

PHILANTHROPY It may not have been raining outside at the July meeting, but it was definitely pouring blessings at the Philanthropy table. We had so many donations, I was overwhelmed. Thank you to all those who participated. Donations came in the form of quilts from Diane Fisher (2), the friendship groups, Going to Pieces (2) and Quilters Cutups (3), Marilyn Barbor (2), Doreen Job (1) – quilted by Charmella Seacrest, Kim Beckley and Connie Foyle – each quilted a top; and Carole Harder,
Verna Wheeler, and Loretta Beaumont – each donating several pillowcases! In addition, Jean Ebert donated a box full of vintage quilt blocks. Again, please forgive me if you donated and I missed getting your name on my list….I’m not getting any younger! I am toying with the idea of having a philanthropy sew-in at my house once a month for ladies who want to work on charity quilts. I would provide kits for you to select from and all the sewing could be done at my house. Let me know if doing an activity such as this is something you would be interested in. I can seat a maximum of eight quilters.

SHOW AND TELL
Norma Holland presented a quilt done in an
Asian cross stitch pattern, “Japanese puzzle,”
which she learned in the June workshop led by
Tracey Brookshire. Norma also showed us a
darling baby quilt she made to present to her
eight grandchild. Beautiful work, Norma!
Tammy Messmann presented a striking
quilt in bright pinks and florals, “Twin
Sisters,” an Eleanor Burns pattern. Tammy
had previously made a similar quilt for her
sister, but this “twin,” she made to keep.
Tammy also showed the Guild the beautiful
purse in blue and black she made in Carol
Stapleton’s workshop in May. Loved both
projects, Tammy!
Carol Harter completed two lovely wall
hangings. The first, in browns, tans and golds,
is called “Memories of Crater Lake.” Carol
went to Crater Lake in June, and bought a kit
with printed fabric featuring reproductions of
four antique postcards of Crater Lake from the
‘30s and ‘40s. Carol’s second wall hanging,
“Japanese Puzzle,” was made from black,
brown and gold Asian fabrics. She made it in
Tracey Brookshire’s June workshop. These
will be beautiful on your wall, Carol!
Betty Getchell presented a darling quilt
featuring multi-colored cat blocks. The quilt,
in blue, green, pink and gray, was made using
the “Pins and Paws quilt” pattern by the
Missouri Star Quilt Company. Absolutely
purrfect, Betty!
Kathi Bloom presented a bright and
beautiful Exploding 9-Patch quilt which she
learned to make in a class at Road to
California. The quilt featured nine blocks of
bright colors with a black background. What a
pretty project, Kathi!

SHOW AND TELL Cont’d
Marcia Pittman pieced and quilted two
projects. Her red & black quilt, “Lots of
Love,” was made for her teenage son’s first
love, as a birthday/graduation gift. Her
second project was a blue and gray baby
quilt featuring elephants and using raw-edge
appliqué. Both so cute, Marcia!
Phyllis also completed a lap quilt in red
Tuscan fabrics, using a lattice pattern, with
bias edges. She saw a sample at “Primitive
Gatherings,” and decided to make a similar
quilt for her house in Paso Robles. It’ll look
great, Phyllis!
Lorraine Voorhees made and showed a
beautiful two-fabric bargello pattern quilt in
ombre or gradient jewel-toned fabric and
black. Diane Beecham quilted the project.
Lovely, Lorraine!
Gail Mitchell completed a ‘30s scrappy
quilt, “Gramma’s Jewels,” with a bubblegum
pink border. This jewel box pattern was
presented by Lyn Brown in Spring 2014.
Gail says Lyn brought in her husband’s
grandmother’s hand-pieced, hand quilted
quilt, and Lyn re-patterned it for the class.
Beautiful quilt, Gail!
Jean Ebert also presented two projects.
Her beige wall hanging was made with a
puzzle box pattern, featuring squares with
birds in the center. Jean said this project was
“very easy,” which is encouraging! Her
second quilt was in a Dresden Plate pattern
with a yellow border. Jean says she bought
the squares with pieced plates on off-white
fabric at a church garage sale, then she added
the border. What a wonderful “antique”
quilt, Jean!
15
Charline Berg also used the “Pins & Paws”
pattern to create this fun quilt featuring pastel cats.
She had seen the quilt on the cover of the Missouri
Star Quilt Store magazine, and was inspired. Lee
Ann Moore quilted the project.
Charline quilted her second quilt herself, a baby
quilt in pastels and pink, also featuring cats. You
inspire us, Charline!
Charline’s third project, in black, white and
turquoise, was made using strips of the three
colors. Charline learned this technique in Larene
Smith’s Adult Ed class, and Emily Hanson quilted
the project. Very pretty quilt, Charline!
Martha Ruiz has completed a 30” square quilt
top from the Japanese Jigsaw workshop. This
lovely quilt top is in cream, green, purple and gold.
Looking forward to seeing the completed quilt,
Martha! Great start!
Fran Mathews completed a UFO from Rita
Jones last Mystery Quilt retreat. This beautiful
quilt in lavender and turquoise was quilted by Erin
Gonzales. Fran says she had the border fabric for
several years and wanted to find something to go
with it. You found the perfect quilt, Fran!

Marilyn Barbour pieced and quilted
two quilts, both which will be donated
to our charities. The first, “Scrappy
Squares,” features a blue border around
scrappy 6-inch squares. The second
quilt Marilyn made with some of the
squares provided by her friendship
group, “Quilters Cut-Ups.” The
scrappy blocks in “Yellow, anyone?”
are set on-point with yellow sashing.
Our charity recipients will love these,
Marilyn!
Debra Glowacki pieced and quilted a
really fun quilt featuring beer panels in
greens and black. Debra’s husband
went with her on a quilt run, and found
these cute coordinating beer panels.
Good way to keep your husband
interested in quilting, Debra!
Laberta Malone finished her fourth
UFO, “Legacy,” the Orange Quilt Bee
Mystery Quilt. Marcia Pittman quilted
this project, pieced in brown, black, tan
and red. Laberta says it was “Lots of
fun,” and we had lots of fun seeing it,
Laberta!
Debi Hanna completed a quilt, “Rain
Dance,” from a Lyn Brown workshop in
April 2017. She used bright jewel-
toned batiks with rain dots, with a white
batik background and purple binding
and borders. The project was quilted by
LeeAnn Moore using variegated thread.
It made us want to dance in the rain,
Debi!

Diane Fisher pieced and quilted three projects.
The first, in bright blues and greens, will be
donated to our charities. The second, in oranges
and green, features cute little monsters, which are
mirrored in stitching in each corner. This quilt
was made for Diane’s grandson. The third will
also be given to our charities. This quilt was
made with flannel rectangles she won at a Guild
meeting. Wonderful, fun projects, Diane!
Becky Sproal pieced and quilted our last
presentation for July, “Alliatore,” a UFO from
Bonnie Hunter’s 2015 Winter Mystery Quilt
Retreat. Becky says she loves all the 2, 3 and 4
degree patterns formed when two different
blocks are put next to each other. And we
loved your quilt, Becky!
