The move has been made and everyone has been busy as bees. Thank you to TRK Devel- opment (our contractor) for the remodeling job. The gallery and studio look quite nice and func- tional. Thank you to Phil Micheau and the building committee for combing through all the drawings and making changes as needed. Regarding the move…Thank you to Liz Horning for her tremendous efforts and organization of the studio area. Without her it would still be in process. We never realized that we had so many books. She has come up with a way to organize them called the Lizzy decimal system. Gabrielle LaFargue has agreed to do the typing to put them into a digital system. Les Stafford and Harlan White have been busy building the cabinets for the kitchen and bathrooms. Thanks to both of them. Harlan’s wife, Saundra amongst a lot of others has been a great help in the studio helping Liz. Lois Bravo donated the new water heater and cash register. Robin Lara donated the new kitchen sink (not for cleaning brushes), the storage room sink is for that. Elizabeth Line, Gary & Ginger Shreve purchased a roll top desk for the entry front desk and donated it to the gallery. The G&G Shreve team donated a new micro- wave for the kitchen, also new blinds in the gallery. Gary climbed into the attic to find the phone line, rewired and now we have phones. We’re trying to get back to a normal schedule, if there is such a thing, regarding the studio usage. Carol Reilly and her group are currently resuming their Monday and Wednesday classes. President’s Message

continued from page 1

The gallery looks great

and we’re going to in-corporate some of the

rules and organization of the mall gallery with

some modifications as

we go along. There is a jurying committee in

place.

***************************** The current plan is to OPEN the gallery by JUNE…..anyone who wants to

hang their original paintings and floor art (jewelry, gourds, lamps, etc.) please send an e-mail ([email protected] or [email protected]) to

notify me of your intentions. Wall art is to be set up in grids of 4’X 6’ with

each person having 24 square feet in which to hang paintings, floor art will have the glass cases, stands, tables to display. If we need more stands or

tables, we can modify them or make some more, even painting them with different colors. We’re planning to have a rotation of 2 months + or - to dis-

play at a time, then another group comes in to display for everyone have an

equal opportunity to display. We can then, at different times do different venues of art. Perhaps all watercolors, gourds, oils, pastels, jewelry, well,

you get the idea. Rotation and variety is the key.

the end of the show. We have one volunteer who watches the parking lot from 7 to noon but it would be helpful to have another person from noon to 5pm on Sat and noon to 4pm on Sunday.

CALL TO ARTISTS! $75 Prize! Art in the Park Poster/Insert Contest

It's time again for our annual contest to come up with a design for the cover of this year's SV Herald Art in the Park insert, which comes out in the Sunday paper the week prior to Art in the Park. It's the design that we also will be using for the posters and all of the other Art in the Park advertising for 2016. That means it has to be adaptable to different formats- from horizontal to vertical or square. But mostly, vertical.

We are looking for something that is bright and bold and evokes the spirit of Art in the Park. There always is some copy that must be included, and it will say, at the very least: "The Huachuca Art Association pre-sents the 45th annual Art in the Park, at Veterans' Memorial Park, Sierra Vista, October 1st& 2nd, 2016." You do not need to do the actual lettering, because the art department at the paper will set that up any-way, but you might want to take into consideration where that copy might go. If you are doing it as a digi-tal drawing, it needs to be large enough, with enough resolution, to be printed at an 11 x 17 size. If you are doing it in traditional media, we will need either to have the original art, or a version of it (photo or scan) that can be blown up to about the same size.

The deadline for entries is July 31. You can either photograph or scan your entry and email it to: [email protected]. Or you can just mail the original art to the HAA at P.O. Box 748, Sierra Vista, AZ 85636, or drop it off at 1835 Paseo San Luis during Open Studio hours on Thursday, July 28, or, if none of that works, call Liz (803-7157) to make other arrangements.

HELP WANTED for the Cochise County Fair Charla Henney, the Secretary of Exhibits for the Cochise County Fair is seeking one or two people to be superintendents in the Fine Arts Department at this year's Fair, which will be held at the Douglas Fair-grounds on September 21-25, 2016. The job starts at 10 am on Wednesday, September 21, continuing un-til 8pm as the exhibit pieces are delivered. You'll be receiving, tagging, and helping the entrants to com-plete the required forms for the exhibits as they come in. The receiving process will continue again for three hours, beginning at 7 am on Thursday morning and will be followed by the judging later in the day. The superintendents don't do the judging, but do record the results, affix the ribbons and arrange the piec-es for viewing. At all times, while the Fair is open, there needs to be somebody on duty nearby to ensure the safety of the artworks. The Fine Arts Department is one of the most challenging, due to the number of hours that have to be put in, so in addition to a $70 stipend for each superintendent, the Fair will provide $25 more for each of up to three helpers. That way, the hours can be split up into shifts so that nobody has to work too many hours at a time. It is up to the superintendents to recruit their helpers. This year, for the first time, the works may be offered for sale, but only by providing the buyers and sellers with contact information. The Fair will not be handling any transactions. On Sunday, the last day of the Fair, from 5 un-til 6 pm, artists are to pick up their work, and the superintendents are to be there to ensure that all the pieces are returned to their owners.

You can find more information about Fine Arts at the Fair by going to: http://cochisecountyfair.org, and click on exhibitors, then Dep. L, Fine Arts. Or contact Charla at: [email protected], or call:520-458-6148, before 9 pm.
