Well, sorry about that, folks. Last month I declared winter to be over, but as I write this, the snow is falling down, tem-peratures are plummeting, and plein air painting is about the last thing I want to do. Still, by the time you read this, it will be Spring again, so if you want to be on the list, let me know.

But what I really want to talk about is Members' meetings. It was just about six years ago that I joined the HAA. I filled out an application that I downloaded from the website and mailed it in, and not hav-ing met any actual humans yet, I showed up at a Members' meeting. I expected to find a group of people talking about art stuff, or association stuff, or something like that. And so I did, but that group was very, very small indeed. In fact, it was just three people - Edie Manion, Pat Dun-bar, and Mary Okert. And the subject of the meeting turned out to be whether or not to have a meeting. And for me that was OK, because at least I'd met a few nice people. But my-o-my now, how things have changed. Thanks to the ef-forts our Programs and Workshops Chairman, Elizabeth Line, and the many people who have volunteered their time and expertise, we have been having in-teresting and informative presentations every month, covering a wide variety of topics. And recently the Board voted to pay a $50 honorarium to program pre-senters. This is to help compensate them for their time and materials, not to men-tion for the gasoline, if they are coming here from far away. So, again, if you would like to do a presentation, or if you know of someone who you think has something good to share, contact Eliza-beth.

Next month Edie will demonstrate matte cutting on the HAA's very own matte cutter, which has been in storage for a long time, but now we have a place to set it up, and we hope to have it avail-able for members to use. We will require that you take a course of instruction in it's use, and you will have to supply your own matteboard. But if you're interested in saving some money on mattes, don't miss this one.

Keep on creating!

You couldn't have had more fun Monday the 19th of March than the 8

ters for bulletin boards and fold simple card/envelops.

Annette Wolfe will show us how to make "May Baskets" at the next meeting of Paper Arts (Monday April

16th from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m at the Astro Gallery). She will also put together an explanation of this interest-

Curators’ Message from the Mall Gallery Sue Olivo

The artists and artisans of the Gallery have presented an awesome display of talent for March. We are having many repeat customers and we want to convey their praises to all of you. We are looking forward to another great month.

As it now stands, we are at capacity and have a waiting list for art, photography and jewelry. If you have signed up as an artist, please check with one of us be-fore you bring in photographs or jewelry. As artists, we have many facets to our creativity, but we want to be fair to those you just specialize in the other arts.

The question of triptychs has come to our attention. The question being, is a triptych considered one paint-ing or three? By definition, it is a single piece of artwork; therefore, a triptych would count as one and the artist would still be able to have four other pieces of art to hang. You would still have to be within the regulated amount of total space allowed for each artist. Triptychs are great and are certainly welcomed.

Sue Olivo is the Featured Artist for April. The reception will be Sunday April 1st from 3-5pm. Lois Bravo will be featured in May and Lorna Zerba in June.

Lorna Zerba has volunteered to be the chairperson for the receptions, but it would also be helpful for the “featured artist” to help with the reception. The receptions are the first Sunday of the month from 3-5pm, but not mandatory, so if you are a “featured artist” you have the choice to do it or not. Remember the Astro Studio is still have the monthly potluck for the artist of the month. Itʼs up to you. Weʼve got you cov-ered. The one thing to remember is the extra publicity we get in the Herald, if you have the Sunday recep-tion.

Some of you are planning for vacations etc and are wondering about accruing extra hours so you will be covered while you are away. The good news is that we have decided that it is an excellent idea for all of us. We will track your time so you will know how many hours you have, when you need them.

Due to the number of unframed prints that we have, it is going to be necessary to limit the number to five.

One last thing. The credit card machine can be temperamental, so please double check the amounts be-fore you complete the transaction. Thanks!

See you at the Gallery

From the Galleries

If adding or changing artwork the last Wednesday of the month (April 25th) please send titles, medium and price to Elizabeth Line.

Send by e-mail or U.S. mail two days prior to deadline. She will have your title cards ready for reviewing and for attaching to

artwork before hanging.

The Astro Street Studio Gallery Director, Edie Manion

The "Dine with the Artists" party we had on March 2nd was lots of fun--we had a big turnout. Now in April we will be hanging a new display of pictures and our "Dine with the Artists" will be at 4:00 PM on April 7th. Don't miss it ! Bring a dish and join in. On March 17th we had a very interesting "Demo". Kath McCauley explained to us all about" Pocket Sketching" She showed us all her tiny tools for sketching out doors. Her tiny watercolor set and pad were very surprising. Held in one hand and paint withthe other! Now--some of you newer members should come down and join us on Thursdays ! We gather for "Open Studio" and paint and enjoy each other's company.
