One of our biggest annual events is the Festival of the Southwest, set for May 4, 5 and 6 at Veterans Memorial Park, Sierra Vista. Highlights include the carnival, vendors, and fantastic free musical entertainment. Go to Pages 4 and 5 to help make your plans.

April is the Month of the Military Child, and we've planned a spectacular event with a little something for everyone for Saturday, April 21st. Check out Page 9 for more information.

The Warrior Adventure Quest is resiliency training, available to all Army units. Check out Page 18 for more information on this exciting program.

B.O.S.S. has scheduled a Texas Hold’em Tournament for March 24th. Find out how you can enter on Page 16.

Meet Denise Chappell, ACS RelocationReadiness Program Manager

As of Jan. 22, 2018, Army Community Service has a new staff member. She is Denise Chappell, and she came to Fort Huachuca from Washington State where she had worked for ACS at Joint Base Lewis/McCord for the past several years.

There she worked in Employment Readiness and helped Wounded Warriors to transition.

Prior to that, Denise worked for eight years at Camp Humphries, Korea, where she assisted with all ACS programs.

Altogether, Denise has spent almost 20 years on the job with various Army Community Service Programs.

The Relocation Readiness Program Manager’s position had been vacant for several months, with other ACS staff members filling in to meet required standards.

Now that the position has once again been filled, Denise hopes to offer additional services for clients such as:

*“Smooth Moves,” which provides one-on-one help to eliminate some of the stress of PCSing, (Permanent Change of Station) while providing resources and information about the new installation and community;

*Overseas workshops, for destinations Korea and Germany, plus desk-side assistance for any other overseas assignment;

*Assist foreign-born spouses, and begin hosting a monthly meeting for International Spouses, to help them become more aware of benefits and support that are available to them.

* Hearts Apart,” which is a way to keep families together over the miles, providing activities and resources to families who have a Soldier Member on an unaccompanied tour, extended TDY or field training.

* Reach out to Family Readiness Groups to find out their needs and what matters most to the community.

Since she has arrived at Fort Huachuca, and began her assignment here, Denise told us that she has felt very welcomed. She is especially happy to have returned to a more family-sized ACS, which offers more freedom. JB Lewis/McCord’s Army Community Service employs around 120 people, compared to just 12 on the FH staff .

When she isn’t working, Denise hopes to be able to enjoy the warm Arizona weather, and to spend more time with family and friends. She has three grown children and three grandchildren, two of whom live in Phoenix.

Since she is originally from Denver, CO, Denise says that she feels closer to home than she did in Washington.

The name SKIESUnlimited is an acronym for the “Schools of Knowledge, Inspiration, Exploration, and Skills” with the word “Unlimited” added to indicate the unlimited learning possibilities this exciting program offers Army children and youth. The program provides the framework for all instructional programming in the CYS system Army-wide, encompassing classes for children and youth ages 3-18 years. Through this program, participants can expand their knowledge, be inspired, and explore and acquire new skills. SKIESUnlimited offers classes in the following four “schools”:• School of Academic Skills, Mentoring, and Intervention (e.g., LanguageClasses, Tutoring, Computer Programming, and Robotics).• School of Arts, Recreation, and Leisure (e.g., Classes for MusicalInstrument Instruction, Voice Lessons, and Zumba).• School of Life Skills, Citizenship, and Leadership (e.g., Public Speaking, Driver's Ed. and Sewing).• School of Sports (e.g., Tennis, Tumbling, and Skating).

The Warrior Adventure Quest (WAQ) program is a High-Adventure Outdoor Recreation program combined with L-LAAD as a part of the Army's holistic approach to RESET. WAQ is a free, full-day, resiliency training. All Army units, Active Duty, Reserve and National Guard may participate during any part of the deployment cycle.WAQ programs are designed to help mitigate boredom and high-risk behavior of Soldiers by providing high-adventure activity in an outdoor setting. High adventure programs reinforce soldier unit cohesion and individual coping tools for stress and reintegration challenges. The Fort Huachuca Outdoor Recreation program offers the Challenge Course, a high rope team building program. Other activities may be coordinated with the Outdoor Recreation team. .
