1.0 Explanation & Overview The GoArmy Edge Sports application suite is a collection of sport-focused applications supporting strategy and team-building while incorporating Army Values. The GoArmy Edge Sports application suite consists of GoArmy Edge Football, GoArmy Edge Soccer (coming soon), and GoArmy Edge Marching Band (coming soon). The intended audience of the GoArmy Edge Sports apps suite are High School and College Teams/Organizations. The GoArmy Edge Recruiter Portal provides the Recruiter access to functionality to support and interact with Teams assigned to the Recruiter’s Recruiting Station (RSID). The Recruiter will provide support by unlocking application functionality for Teams requesting enhanced features. The Recruiter will have the opportunity to interact with Teams by contacting Team Coaches and Players (older than 17 years) and can document interactions within the Portal system via the Notes functionality.
GoArmy Edge Football: Summary Information
GoArmy Edge Football is a free-to-use, U.S. Army created and branded app that is designed to help athletes learn their team's playbooks, make proper reads and play calls, and mentally practice their assignments in a virtual environment before taking to the field. GoArmy Edge Football comes loaded with example playbooks and drills for formation recognition, front recognition, coverage reads, pass protection, and option reads. In the Drill mode coaches can put together virtual flashcards to test players at every position. GoArmy Edge Football allows coaches to modify the existing plays and drills, and draw and edit new plays just like drawing on a whiteboard. The offensive and defensive plays are drawn in 2D and then animated in full 3D for viewing in first person, third person or traditional field camera views. GoArmy Edge Football is customizable for coaches to draw their own plays and create personnel groups, formations and route trees, and invite other coaches and players to join in the app to share the information. Coaches can also modify player uniforms for additional realism. The app is available for iPads and iPhones through Apple's App store, for Android tablets through the Google Play Store, for Windows 8 and 10 computers on the Windows Store, and on the web at http://football.goarmyedge.com.
Explanation & Overview
Page 4 of 43 Version: 1.0 Date: 12 SEP 2016
At the time of Team creation, coaches are given access that will include use of example playbooks and drills and the ability to create a single playbook of their own; they will not be able to access drills outside of the example playbooks or modify uniforms. Once the coach tries either to create a second playbook, to access drills in their own playbook, or to modify uniforms the coach will be automatically prompted to request an "unlock" via a button click in the app. The local Recruiter in the area is notified of the request (based on the team’s zip code) and is able to unlock all features in the app via the GoArmy Edge Recruiter Portal. The Recruiter then has the opportunity to reach out to the coach to offer additional information. The example playbooks and drills and basic features are included with everything to develop a 2D / 3D playbook. To create more than one playbook, to use the drills in their own playbook, or to modify uniforms the app must be unlocked. Once the app is unlocked, all features are available.
See Frequently Asked Questions (Section 6.0) for more details on the GoArmy Edge Sports apps suite.
