• IV. ELIGIBILITY RULES• D. Academic Rules• A student must meet the School District of

Mauston, Department of Public Instruction, and WIAA requirements defining a full-time student and have received no failing grade (including incompletes) in the most recent grade reporting period/term.

III. DEFINITION OF CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIESCo-curricular activities include any school related organized activity that is offered outside of academic class requirements. Co-curricular activities for grades 9-12 are divided into five distinct categories. School district policies and school rules govern all student activities. In addition, each category has unique rules and expectations which regulate participation.Category 1 - AthleticsCategory 2 – Competitive Activities (for example – Art Club/Show, Academic Decathlon, Forensics, Math Team, Powerlifting, Cheerleading, Dance Team)Category 3 – Leadership & Public Recognition Activities (for example – AFS, Badger Boys/Girls, Courts (Homecoming, Winterfest, Prom, etc.), Commencement Speakers, Class Officers, Drama Club, FACT, FBLA, FFA, Key Club, Link Crew, NHS, Student Council, and School Musical)Category 4 – Music/Class Related Activities (for example – Band, Choir, Dramatic Lit., Pep Band, Show Choir, Yearbook)Category 5 - Intramural and Interest Clubs (for example – French Club, Newspaper, Spanish Club, Literary Magazine)

5f. A student who receives an F in the fourth term is academically ineligible for 10%

(rounded up) of the scheduled competitions during the fall season. The student will

remain on academic probation. A student who becomes academically

ineligible with two (2) or more F’s may regain eligibility by meeting the academic standard following a period of fifteen (15) scheduled

school days and nights of ineligibility.

6f. A student who receives 2 or more F’s during the fourth term is academically

ineligible for 21 days in the fall season from the first day of competition or fifteen

scheduled school days, whichever is less. The student will remain on academic

probation.

ResponsibilitiesAll students may have the privilege to participate in extra curricular activities if he/she is willing to assume certain responsibilities.

Participants are held to a higher standard.

Participants must abide by the Code of Conduct year round and eligibility requirements of MHS and the WIAA in order to maintain the privilege

to participate.

Involves alcohol, tobacco, drugs or look-alikes, Criminal acts, violations of WIAA

banned substances, theft, vandalism, harassment

The Code of Conduct provides for due process and outlines an appeal process of all violations listed above.

Effective Period The MHS Code of Conduct is in effect for 12 months of the year

by WIAA RULE

Scholastic Requirements for Eligibility

Attendance

Students are expected to be in school the entire day in order to practice or participate.

Exceptions: Professional pre-arranged appt., school trips, funerals, early dismissals, or family emergency

Grading

Students are EXPECTED to pass all coursework.

See Code for further details on probation and ineligibility.

Athletic Obligations All students must have all necessary forms into the

office before he/she is allowed to practice or compete.

WIAA Rules UPDATE

The WIAA requires

that both student-athletes and their parents receive verbal and/or written instructions related to the

following rules and regulations

developed by the WIAA and its member schools.

residenceA full time student’s athletic

eligibility is only at the school within whose attendance boundaries they reside and/or where school tuition is paid in by the beginning of the school year or sports season.

A student athlete’s eligibility can only transfer during a school year if it is caused be a full and complete transfer of residence.

TransfersA student athlete that transfers after

their fourth consecutive semester will be ineligible for practice or competition for one calendar year unless a waiver is granted.

Physical /Parent PermissionA student-athlete must have permission

of parent, an emergency form, and physical signed by physician or advanced practice nurse every other year.

WIAA Rules Update (cont.)Amateur Status A student athlete may

not accept rewards, compensation, gifts and/or gratuities in the form of cash or merchandise as a result of competing in any sanctioned sport(s) of the WIAA and national federation of high school athletics during their high school career.

Conflict of interest & contact days A student-athlete may not compete in a

same sport and/or related activity as a member of a team or individual entry during the same time he/she is participating school sponsored sport. This restriction exists only during the school year and limited to that specific sports season.

During the summer, a student-athlete may assemble and/or participate with the schools team and/or be instructed by the person who will be their coach for the upcoming sports season in accordance with approved contact days. The sports of baseball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and wrestling are exempt.

EEnergy drinks, powders, and supplements should be referred to the WIAA Banded Substances List on their webiste.

DO NOT BELIEVE THAT IF IT IS BOUGHT LEGALLY, IT IS OK TO USE.

• Represent MHS with “Class” at all home and away events. Be proud of your school and team

for what they represent!

• Remove your hat and stand during the National Anthem.

Don’t be afraid to set the example.

• CHEER LOUD!!!!!• Treat officials, opponents and

event personnel with dignity & respect.
