On July 1, 1997, the face of intercollegiate athletics in Wisconsin changed dramatically. At that time, the nine members of the former Wisconsin State Univer-sity Conference (WSUC) and the Wisconsin Women’s Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WWIAC) joined together to form a single conference -- The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The WIAC member institutions are:UW-Eau Claire UW-Stevens PointUW-La Crosse UW-StoutUW-Oshkosh UW-SuperiorUW-Platteville UW-WhitewaterUW-River Falls

Each of the nine institutions is a part of the Univer-sity of Wisconsin System, and each competes at the NCAA Division III level. For 26 years, the WSUC and WWIAC operated as separate men’s and women’s con-ferences. In 1996, the University of Wisconsin System determined that the two conferences should be merged into a single conference under the direction of one conference offi ce and commissioner.

• WIAC student-athletes compete without the benefi t of athletic aid or scholarships. They compete for the love of their game.• Over 5,000 student-athletes participate in the WIAC each year.• The nine institutions of the WIAC have a total stu-dent enrollment of approximately 70,000.• Over 300,000 WIAC alumni currently reside within the state of Wisconsin.• In the last 10 years, 39 NCAA national championship team titles have been crowned in the WIAC.• The WIAC has captured more NCAA national championships than any other Division III confer-ence in history. Championships have been won in 15 different sports, including: baseball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s cross country, women’s cross country, football, men’s golf, men’s ice hockey, men’s indoor track, women’s indoor track, men’s out-door track, women’s outdoor track, women’s softball, women’s volleyball and women’s gymnastics (NCGA). It is no wonder the WIAC is commonly referred to as the “Conference of Champions.”

Dear UW-Stevens Point Softball Supporter,

I would like to invite you to consider supporting our softball team by becoming a member of our booster club; “The Windmill Club.” The funds donated to this cause are typically utilized for expenses related to the team’s spring trip. This year the team will participate in the NTC Spring Games in Clermont, Florida.

Our WIAC conference is one of the strongest conferences in the country in Division III. The spring trip is a very important contributor to the program’s ability to compete in this conference. It also has been a key contributor to the program’s 16 straight 20 win seasons, including a NCAA Division III Championship in 1998.

On behalf of all our players and coaching staff, I want to thank you in advance for your consideration in supporting the UW-Stevens Point Softball Team by becoming a member of “The Windmill Club.”

I look forward to seeing you in the stands cheering on our team in what looks to be another successful and exciting season!

Sincerely,

Tom HenkeHead Coach - UWSP Softball
