Jordan Zimmermann Jordan Zimmermann, an Auburndale, Wis. native, was drafted in the second round – 67th overall – by the Washington Nationals in the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft. In his senior season with UWSP, the highly touted right-hander was a perfect 10-0 with two saves and a 2.08 ERA in 13 appearances. Zimmermann had 90 strike-outs and was also the team’s leading hitter with a .385 batting average and seven home runs. Zimmermann’s performance helped the Point-ers to the 2007 NCAA Division III World Series where he became the first player from a non-championship team to take home the Most Outstanding Player award at the World Series. During the 2006 season, Zimmermann posted 103 strikeouts as a junior. That single-season mark is fifth all time in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference history. Zimmermann’s 15 strike-outs against Ripon College that same season is tied for the fifth-most strikeouts in a game in WIAC history. In all, Zimmermann’s 236 career strikeouts are eighth in the WIAC and his four career shutouts are tied for third on the all-time list. Zimmermann also made a dent with his bat, as his .649 career slugging percentage is ninth in the WIAC. Zimmermann has made 81 starts in his career with the Nationals, the first of which came in 2009. Through 479.1 innings in the Majors, Zimmermann has a 3.47 ERA and 396 strikeouts. Zimmermann’s best season was in 2012 when he tossed 195.2 innings while posting 12 wins and a 2.94 ERA to help the Nationals claim their first-ever National League East Division Title.
