Egner has compiled a 409-173 overall record in her 22 seasons, ranking second on the all- time WIAC wins list. Over the last 10 seasons, Coach Egner has guided the Pointers to an average of 23 wins per season and her all- time coaching record, including high school, is 550-228. Egner is a four-time WIAC Coach of the Year honoree, earning the award in 2003- 04, 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2010-2011. In 2010 Egner was inducted into the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Egner has also been named the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division III Women’s Coach of the Year the past two years. Last season the Pointer rattled off a school- record 20-game win streak and became just the sixth team in WIAC history to post a perfect 16-0 conference record. In addition, they recorded the nation’s 18th-best GPA among NCAA Division III teams. As a team, UWSP women’s basketball student-athletes compiled a 3.459 team GPA. Coach Egner led the Pointers to the 2001-02 NCAA Division III championship with a 67-65 win over St. Lawrence (N.Y.). She then took the Pointers back to the final four again two years later in 2003-04, where they placed fourth. The Pointers have achieved their best success in recent seasons with a 260-59 record over the past eleven seasons, which is the best winning percentage of any league team over that span. UW-Stevens Point’s best record was 30-3 during its championship season in 2001- 02, becoming just the eighth team in Division III history to win 30 games in a season. Along the way to the championship, Egner also guided the Pointers to a 66-60 victory over four-time defending Division III champion Washington (Mo.), snapping the Bears’ 70- game home winning streak. UW-Stevens Point won back-to-back WIAC titles in 2003-04 and 2004-05. In 2003-04, the Pointers also captured their first-ever WIAC tournament crown, as Egner was named the league’s Coach of the Year. In 2007-08, the Pointers finished third in the WIAC regular season standings, but became the first non-No. 1 seed ever to win the WIAC tournament crown with wins at Whitewater and at Eau Claire, as Egner was again named Coach of the Year. Pointers are a league-best 137-39 in the WIAC over the past 11 seasons. Egner came to UW-Stevens Point from Nicholls State University in Thibodeaux, La., where she served as a graduate assistant. A native of McFarland, Wis., and a 1980 graduate of UW-La Crosse, she began her coaching career as head girls’ basketball coach at Shiocton (Wis.) High School. After a one-year stint as the girls’ freshman coach at Monona Grove (Wis.) High School, she became head girls’ coach at Waunakee (Wis.) High School, where she led the Warriors to a five-year record of 115-40, including conference titles in 1985, 1986 and 1987 and state tournament appearances in 1986 and 1987. Following the 1986-87 season, she was named the WBCA District Five Coach of the Year and was chosen to coach the Class B South Team in the WBCA All-Star Game in Madison. Head CoaCH SHirley egnerOne of the winningest coaches in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference history, Shirley Egner begins her 23rd season as head coach of the Pointers in 2011-12.

Egner has compiled a 409-173 overall record in her 22 seasons, ranking second on the all-time WIAC wins list. Over the last 10 seasons, Coach Egner has guided the Pointers to an average of 23 wins per season and her all-time coaching record, including high school, is 550-228.

Egner is a four-time WIAC Coach of the Year honoree, earning the award in 2003-04, 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2010-2011. In 2010 Egner was inducted into the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Egner has also been named the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division III Women’s Coach of the Year the past two years.

Last season the Pointer rattled off a school-record 20-game win streak and became just the sixth team in WIAC history to post a perfect 16-0 conference record. In addition, they recorded the nation’s 18th-best GPA among NCAA Division III teams. As a team, UWSP women’s basketball student-athletes compiled a 3.459 team GPA.

Diane Hawkins begins her third season as the top assistant coach for the Pointers in 2011-12. Hawkins also serves as the team’s recruiting coordinator.

Diane was a four year letter winner for the Pointers from 2001-05 and was a member of the 2002 National Championship team.

Coach Hawkins joined the Pointers staff after spending two seasons as the Graduate Assistant Coach at Edgewood College in Madison. While at Edgewood Coach Hawkins worked primarily with guard development and served as recruiting coordinator for the Eagles. In her two seasons with the Eagles, the team finished 36-18 overall, 27-8 in the Northern Athletics Conference, advancing to the league’s championship game in 2008.

Prior to coaching at Edgewood, Coach Hawkins served as a Student Assistant with the Pointers during the 2005-06 season. After graduation from UWSP Coach Hawkins served as the Director of New Program Development at the Green County Family YMCA in Monroe, Wis.

aSSt. CoaCH diane HawkinSCoach Hawkins received a Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion and Wellness with a minor in Coaching in 2006 from UW-Stevens Point. As a student, she was a 2004 recipient of the University Leadership Award, a 2005 recipient of the Pointer Leadership Award for women’s basketball, and the 2006 UWSP Chancellor Senior Leadership Award.

Hawkins is originally from Monroe, Wis. where she was a two time All-Badger Conference selection, and a member of back to back Badger Conference Championship teams. She received her master’s in Education from Edgewood College in May of 2009. Hawkins currently teaches at UWSP in the school of Health, Exercise Science and Athletics.

Jessi Sporle is in her first season as graduate assistant for the Pointers.

This is Sporle’s second coaching stint with UWSP, having served as a student assistant in 2009-10 for a team that reached the NCAA Division III Elite Eight.

The Mineral Point, Wis., native was a member of the Pointers from 2005-09 as a player where she was a four-time letterwinner, two-year starter and named captain her senior season. She was also honored with WIAC Honorable Mention honors as a senior and earned the Pointer Award for embodying what it means to be a Pointer.

aSSt. CoaCH JeSSi SporleSporle was a member of the 2007-08 and 2008-09 WIAC Tournament championship teams, making appearances in the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Sporle is currently attending graduate school, pursuing her master’s degree in general education at UWSP. Sporle recently completed her undergraduate studies with a Bachelor of Science degree in health promotion, including minors in coaching and strength & conditioning.

aSSt. CoaCH andrea FleaSeFlease enters her first year as a student assistant for the UWSP women’s basketball team.

The New London, Wis., native was a four-time letterwinner for the Pointers. From 2007-11 she was twice named First Team All-WIAC for her efforts. Her senior year she was named a Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Honorable Mention All-American. Flease was also a two-time All-Central Region honoree by D3hoops.com.

Flease-led teams won two WIAC regular season and four straight WIAC Tournament titles including becoming the first team in tournament history to win after not securing the No. 1 seed.

Flease lives in Stevens Point and is finishing her undergraduate degree in Physical Education.
