COMMUNAL RESPONSIBILITY The people of God forgot the covenant and flouted God’s laws. They did not listen to the prophets among them, who spoke for God in warning them. Prophets are sent from God to remind us why we are here, but they are often, even in our own time, mocked, disregarded, and mistreated rather than thanked and listened to. The book of Chronicles tells the results of these sins: the destruction of the temple and all of Jerusalem, murder, may-hem, and finally exile to a foreign land. Why are these stories in the Bible? Just to inform us of what happened to our ancient forebears? What good would that be unless there were a mes-sage and a warning for us as well? Are we people who follow the teachings of God, who obey the words of Christ in the sec-ond covenant in his blood? Or do we continue to wreak works of darkness and violence? RESPONSABILIDAD COMUNAL El pueblo de Dios olvidó la alianza y se burló de las le-yes de Dios. No escucharon a los profetas que había entre ellos, los cuales les advertían en nombre de Dios. Los pro-fetas son enviados por Dios para recordarnos por qué es-tamos aquí, pero muchas veces, incluso en nuestra época, nos burlamos de ellos, los despreciamos y los maltrata-mos, en vez de escucharlos y agradecerles. Helping children problem solve through communication Often the easiest response to complicated conversations about sensitive issues is a generic one, but these moments can be opportunities to help children grow. For example, if a child comes to you and tells you that a friend is being left out of social activi-ties, you might respond with a question: "Do you think there is anything you can do help him/her feel more in-cluded?" Or if your child comes to you for money for so-cial activities, instead of just giving them the cash or suggesting how they might get the money, you might prompt them to consider ways that they could earn money or fundraise on their own. In this way, you are not only helping a child find a solution to an immediate situation, but also helping them to grow in wisdom and prudence.
