Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time Today’s Readings First Reading: On this mountain the LORD will make for all peoples a feast of rich food and choice wines (Isaiah 25:6-10a). Psalm: I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life (Psalm 23). Second Reading: God will supply whatever you need (Philippians 4:12-14,19-20). Gospel: I have prepared my banquet, and everything is ready. Come to the feast! (Matthew 22:1-14). Readings for the Week Monday: Rom 1:1-7; Ps 98:1-4; Lk 11:29-32 Tuesday: Rom 1:16-25; Ps 19:2-5; Lk 11:37-41 Wednesday: 2 Tm 4:10-17b; Ps 145:10-13, 17-18; Lk 10:1-9 Thursday: Rom 3:21-30; Ps 130:1b-6ab; Lk 11:47-54 Friday: Rom 4:1-8; Ps 32:1b-2, 5, 11; Lk 12:1-7 Saturday: Rom 4:13, 16-18; Ps 105:6-9, 42-43; Lk 12:8-12 Sunday: Is 45:1, 4-6; Ps 96:1, 3-5, 7-10; 1 Thes 1:1-5b; Mt 22:15-21 Saints and Special Observances Sunday: Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time Monday: St. Hedwig; St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Tuesday: St. Ignatius of Antioch Wednesday: St. Luke Thursday: Ss. John de Brébeuf, Isaac Jogues, and Companions Friday: St. Paul of the Cross Saturday: Blessed Virgin Mary Scripture Reflection The mountain of the Lord described in today’s first reading is a place where there is no more hunger, no more weeping, and no more division of any kind. We need to pause and ponder these images every now and then, especially given the fact that we live in such a fractured world. The responsorial psalm continues to paint a picture of a place where only goodness and kindness flourish. These readings describe the heavenly banquet, to which God calls each of us through baptism and continues to call us throughout our lives. Let us “RSVP” to God’s invitation and live our lives consistent with gospel values so that one day we will be welcomed to the table of the kingdom. Archdiocesan Family Prayer Loving and faithful God, through the years the people of our archdiocese have appreci-ated the prayers and love of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in times of war, disaster, epidemic and illness. We come to you, Father, with Mary our Mother, and ask you to help us in the battle of today against violence, murder and racism. We implore you to give us your wisdom that we may build a community founded on the values of Jesus, which gives respect to the life and dignity of all people. Bless parents that they may form their children in faith. Bless and protect our youth that they may be peacemakers of our time. Give consolation to those who have lost loved ones through violence. Hear our prayer and give us the perseverance to be a voice for life and human dignity in our community. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. Mother Henriette Delille, pray for us that we may be a holy family. Amen. St. Catherine of Siena Parish Prayer God, Our Father, we thank you for our parish community of St. Catherine of Siena. Thank you for the many blessings that you have given us, but especially for calling us to serve as disciples of your son, Jesus Christ. As we gather today, we ask that you send your Holy Spirit to guide us in everything that we do. Transform our hearts and lead us closer to you. Help us always to seek to be a parish that is Centered on Christ and Ablaze with Love. We ask all of these things in the name of Jesus, and through the intercession of our Blessed Mother. St. Catherine of Siena, pray for us!

Letter from Deacon David Frank Dear SCS Parishioners, Over the last four and a half months, I have been blessed to have St. Catherine of Siena Parish as my first assignment as a newly-ordained deacon. Sadly, this weekend marks the end of my assignment here, as I return to Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans for my remaining year of classes, with the hope of being ordained a priest in June 2018. The time has flown by, and it is hard to leave just as I have started to get to know you all better. I know I will miss you, so I keep reminding myself that I'll be only ten minutes away. I hope to visit y'all from time to time, and you are always welcome to visit me at the seminary. It has been a joy to pray and serve alongside you all! Much has happened during my short time here, from the Hurricane Harvey donation drive to Fr. Ronnie's cancer diagnosis, and countless joyful and sorrowful moments in between. I have learned so much from Fr. Ronnie and Fr. Tim about how to be a priest who is dedicat-ed to giving people his best. Never take for granted these two priests who, like Jesus, lay down their lives every day to serve you. And I have learned just as much from you, the wonderful people of St. Catherine Parish and School, about what a thriving church and school should look like. I pray that I will never forget these lessons in my future ministry. But know this: wherever I may be sent in the future, I will continue to pray for you and your intentions. Please pray for me, and keep praying and encouraging young people here at SCS—maybe in your own family!—to respond fearlessly to God's call in their lives to become holy religious sisters and brothers, holy priests, and holy husbands and wives. Then, as we are centered on Christ and ablaze with love, our parish will be an even brighter sign of the true hope that only comes from Jesus! Yours truly in Christ, Deacon David Frank

Interested in Becoming Catholic? The Catholic Church is always happy to welcome new mem-bers into her arms. Our parish stands ready to assist and guide those who would like to become Catholic. If you are a member of another Christian denomination or if you have never been baptized, we invite you to consider the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). RCIA is the process by which someone who is not yet Catholic can enter into the Church. It a time of prayer and study, an opportunity to grow in a relationship with God and with the larger parish commu-nity. Participating in RCIA does not mean that you are mak-ing a firm commitment; it simply means that you are inter-ested in learning more about our faith. For those who are already Catholic, this could be an opportunity to invite a family member or friend to consider becoming Catholic. If you have questions or would like more information about RCIA, please call the parish office at 835-9343 or email Kurt Garcia at [email protected].
