PRAYER FOR HURRICANE SEASON O God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed your order and returned to its former quietude. You are still the Master of land and sea. We live in the shadow of a dan-ger over which we have no control: the Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant, can awake from its seeming lethargy, overstep its conven-tional boundaries, invade our land and spread chaos and disaster. During this hurricane season we turn to you, O loving Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with the passing of time. O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our Be-loved Mother, we ask you to plead with your Son, in our behalf, so that spared from the calamities common to this area and animated with a true spirit of gratitude, we will walk in the footsteps of your divine Son to reach heav-enly Jerusalem where a stormless eternity awaits us. AMEN

RCIA 2021 - 2022 RCIA is the process, which adults, youth, and children of catechet-ical age are initiated in the Church. We would like each parishion-er to consider inviting at least one person they may know who is either not baptized or who have been baptized in another Christian tradition and would consider becoming Catholic. In addition, you may invite Catholics who have been baptized, but have not re-ceived their First Communion nor their Confirmation. Invite them to a relationship with God who truly loves them, invite them to our community of faith, (St. Catherine of Siena), and to the Catholic Church. Please call our office and get the name on our list for our upcoming RCIA program!

INSTALLATION MASS FOR FR. TINO Bishop David Toups will be here on Sat-urday, August 7, 2021 at the 4:00 p.m. mass to install Fr. Tino Barrera as our new Pastor. There will be a reception im-mediately following the 4:00 p.m. mass. Please join us in the school cafeteria to congratulate Fr. Tino and wish him well in his new ministry.

THE BREAD OF LIFE Today’s Gospel has the crowd asking Jesus three questions. First, “When did you get here,” to which Jesus responds by rebuking them for their failure to grasp his miracle as a “sign,” an occasion to put faith in him. Their second question about accomplishing the “works of God” has Jesus respond that faith is the “work” that God wishes. Many scholars believe this is John’s answer to the faith-works dichotomy emerg-ing in the early Christian community. Faith is the work of God in the believer, John would have us un-derstand. The third question asked by the crowd is a request for a “sign” that would allow them to put faith in Jesus, as the manna in the desert allowed the Israelites to put faith in the Lord God. Jesus answers by revealing himself as the “bread of life” that “comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
