grass, khadi, jute, ambari, sisal, linseed, bilai grass, rice slack,
wheat stalk, banana stem, etc.
Plant and Machinery
Machineries used in fibre industry depend upon the raw mate-
rial used and type of product:
1. Baan, rope and sutli making machine
This is used for the manufacture of baan, Rope and sutli from
any f ibrous material.
2. Power Hammer
It is used to crush, soften and beat the fibrous material such as
moonj, sarkanda, coconut hemp, ambari, sabai grass, etc.
3. Straw softening and crushing machine
To produce best quality ropes and baans with high efficiencythese machines are used.
4. Coconut-husk crushing machine
Coir making machine from the damped’rust of coconut. Manu-
facturing Process
(For Baan, Rope and Sutli)
For manufacturing baan, rope and sutli, the machine used is
common for all.
First adjust the feeding mouth of the machine as per thickness
of the baan or rope or sutli as required. Then feed the raw
material into the mouth of the machine with some hand force.
Slowly feed this material in the rollers and pipes for beating and
softening. Then operate the treadle until two feed of rope comes
out. Then fix the end of the rope through the traveller to the drum
axle, then continue to operate the treadle, feeding the raw ma-
terial continuously. At start, the motor takes a little quantity of
raw material on the inductive wire and insert upto the pay-out
rollers through the feeding mouths and finishing device. Then
produces about five feet of rope by rotating the main frame by
hand. Now draw out the drum shaft b y loosing the thumb screw
on the outside of the main frame and take off the rewinding
