Northern Fruit and Vegetable Grant White Woods will be participating in the Northern Fruit and Vegetable Program (NFVP), starting in February. This program is brought to us in

partnership with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, the Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Growers’ Association, and the North Bay

Parry Sound District Health Unit.

Students will receive a serving of vegetables or fruit every Tuesday or Thursday at no cost. This program is run separate from our Student Nutrition Program. The food will be offered to students later in the

day, and not at the same time as the Student Nutrition Program. This food is not meant to replace the Student Nutrition Program, but it is

meant to enhance it.

The purpose of this program is to raise awareness of the importance of vegetables and fruits, as well as to provide your child with an

opportunity to try different types of food. In addition to fresh produce, the program includes nutrition and physical activity resources that support our school’s goal of creating a healthy school environment.

We will send a message closer to the date of when the program is

about to begin. What a great opportunity for our students!

No Child Without The Medic Alert Foundation of Canada is pleased to offer a free program called “No Child Without” to all students in Public and Separate boards in Canada. No Child Without is a charitable program that offers one free MedicAlert medical ID, and free MedicAlert service plan coverage for children with medical conditions between the ages of 4 and 14. This program is for students who have a medical condition, allergies that require the use of an Epi-Pen, asthma or who use an inhaler, and students with Autism, or ADHD. It is a great way to ensure that staff are aware of a student’s medical condition or special need. If you have a child you think would benefit from having a MedicAlert identification, please call the school. We will be sure to send home a brochure (with a specific PIN number on it) that you will use to enroll your child in the program. Parents/guardians can also visit www.nochildwithout.ca to obtain a PIN and barcode directly from the website.

MindUp Training in the Classroom

Last month we practiced Bear Breathing. This month try Lazy 8 Breathing. Lazy 8 Breathing – Trace the Lazy 8 with your finger starting at the star and take a deep breath in. As you cross over to the other side of the Lazy 8, slowly let your breath out. Continue breathing around the Lazy 8 until you have a calm body and mind.

Character Trait: Honesty

Honesty is telling the truth, admitting wrongdoing, being trustworthy and acting with integrity. Please join us on Tuesday, January 30th at 10:15 am for our Honesty presentation.
