Suggestions to review or extend language
patterns
Review / Extended L5: “Getting to Know You” role-play is a good way to review and extend the lesson from week 1. Most of the language is at the EI level.
Extend L2: Bingo – have students write the word form of the number Review the function from week 5 and have students request a certain number of items.
Review the dialogues from week 3 and 5
Notes and Pacing suggestions
The dialogue on p. 51 is good to practice during different periods over the next few weeks.
This chapter teaches students a lot of vocabulary. We encourage you to teach students how express needs and make requests related to the vocabulary.
The prepositions chosen by Carousel for this chapter are at the EI level. Beginning level prepositions include, on, off, in, out, up, down.
Within both of these lessons, students greet and introduce themselves. Work the “greet and introduce” piece into the dialogues.

Notes and Pacing suggestions
The activities in chapter 4 will extend into two weeks. Focus Wk 9 on describing the color of things.
The prepositions in this chapter are too high for beginning students. One variation is to have students draw a circle and color it.
“Can” is an appropriate auxiliary verb for beginning students. Use frames, such as, We can run. etc.
L2 is a rhyming lesson.
Vary the routine students can describe.
L6 teaches idioms, which is not appropriate for beginning students.
