Tools for IELTS Test Preparation Teachers often comment that writing is the hardest IELTS skill to tackle in the classroom, possibly because the test-takers are looking for a quick fix rather than adopting a systematic process aimed at building up the skills needed to produce an appropriate and accurate response to an IELTS task. This workshop will review the basic testing principles underpinning the IELTS writing test and look at some scripts to see where the key problems lie at a range of levels. Drawing on some of the commercial IELTS materials already available, a checklist of skills and the collective wisdom of the participants, we will aim to come up with some useful classroom strategies. SESSION 1 Duration: 1.5 hours Identifying common IELTS writing issues BREAK TEA / COFFEE SESSION 2 Duration: 1.5 hours Strategies for getting students to lift their game and lift their band score Facilitated by Guest Presenter - Clare McDowell Clare McDowell's career spans over 30 years of ELT practice, from classroom teaching to language testing, test design, IELTS examiner training and hands-on test management. In her role as Local Secretary for 23 years she oversaw the delivery of the University of Cambridge English Exams in Australia. She has successfully co-authored a wide range of course books for the IELTS classroom and self-study. These books enjoy world-wide recognition.
