ME BECAUSE HE THINKS I

CONSIDERS ME WORTH IT.

HE SET OFF FOR A FAR COUNTRY AND THERE SQUANDERED HER WEALTH IN WILD LIVING…

“Kezia, you’re the lost princess,” said R to me after telling me MY life story. What’s crazy is that I hadn’t met R before in my life. We were assigned as roommates at a Christian retreat, which I went to by coincidence-long story. This girl, whom I hadn’t met before, knew my struggles and my past. Because God told her. What happened next was simply beyond imagination. R asked if she could pray for me. After turning down the oer for hours-because I thought it was crazy-I finally said “ok.” The second she opened her mouth to pray for me, I saw in my head a clear picture of a king, dressed in white, standing in front of gold double doors with his arms wide open. I then felt a hug from behind-a warm and tight embrace coming from the air behind me. The King Jesus Christ was so alive and active. He humbly reached down to earth to hug ME and asked me to come HOME. I was so overwhelmed. I gave my life to Christ and got baptized the very next day.

The story doesn’t end there.

R lived in another state and although she called me pretty often and sent me a really beautiful devotional book, I felt alone. I had a very loving church family, but they lived an hour from where I lived. My parents were living in Jakarta, Indonesia and my brother lived in Michigan. Again, I felt alone.

I changed my life so abruptly. I used my own strength

TRUEOlder Brothe

& SisteBy Kezia Nanda

to avoid things that used to entice me. I had “Christian” people around me that wanted to minister to me-but not really to be my best friend or brother or sister in Christ. I felt judged by these people. So, as some had predicted, I fell back to my struggles. The only dierence was that I now had guilt.

When two years passed since I became a princess, I went to a picnic and met J. He cared for my spiritual growth and yet never judged me. He became my true older brother. J introduced me to a group of women who knew life like I did; we strived to conquer struggles and traumas together as sisters.

Through a fellowship called Let’s Chat, which J leads, I met T, who soon became my best friend. We now pray together and love each other. She’s my accountability partner, my basketball teammate, my sister and best friend.

I can’t thank my Father enough for loving me so much and for putting these siblings in my life. How can I not serve Him with all I have? I feel so honored to lead the music team, sing and be a translator at my church. I am involved in Let’s Chat and other God-annointed ministries.

My lifestyle is slowly becoming more and more conformed to what a princess of the King should act like. Jesus is still pruning me because He thinks I can be fruitful, and He considers me worth it. Life is not easy; it’s even more dicult since I love Jesus. But I have my Father King and my older brothers and sisters to celebrate my arrival home, and they’re on my speed dial.

HIS SUMMER WE HAD SIX INTERNS THAT WERE HERE TO SERVE ALONGSIDE OUR TEAM AND LEARN ABOUT MISSIONS. THEY SPECIFICALLY HELPED

IMPLEMENT AND LEAD THE PASSPORT TO SUCCESS SUMMER READING PROGRAM AT THE TYLER STREET OPPORTUNITY CENTER. WHILE WORKING, THE INTERNS EXPLORED A BIBLICAL FOUNDATION FOR MISSIONS AND SOCIAL JUSTICE; VISITING SELECTED MINISTRIES THAT SERVE ORPHANS AND THE UNBORN, CHILDREN IN URBAN SCHOOLS, PRISONERS, AND THE HUNGRY AND HOMELESS. THEY ALSO LEARNED TO TELL BIBLICAL STORIES AND ALL ABOUT THE BIBLICAL PHILOSOPHY OF TRAINING LEADERS THAT IS MOVEMENT FRIENDLY AND REPRODUCIBLE.

PLEASE JOIN US IN THANKING THIS INCREDIBLE GROUP OF INTERNS AND PRAYING FOR THEM AS THEY GO BACK TO SCHOOL THIS FALL. MAY GOD USE THEM IN MIGHTY WAYS AS THEY ARE LIGHTS ON THEIR CAMPUSES!

ColoiansBook Clubs

Last summer at my friend Trisha Schmitt’s house, we went through the book of Colossians over coee while our kids played in the backyard. We were amazed at how life-changing it was to be able to discuss the Scripture, without the help of an author or commentator, and how it could transform our lives.

As we grew together, we talked about how to make this easy option available to all of us this summer. We wanted a name that communicated an atmosphere that was comfortable and non-threatening, and the words “book club” came up. Everyone knows what a book club feels like–laid-back and stimulating at the same time. If you have a book club, you’re not typically called a “leader” but a “host.” This was exactly what we wanted our women to do as they started their own Colossians book clubs–to simply host a discussion on the Word and let the Holy Spirit be the teacher. Trisha led us in a one-hour training this spring, and we were ready to reach out into the city and spread the love of God and His Word.

It’s amazing how He multiplied our book clubs. We have around 60 in our community–in the Heights, Hillcrest, West Little Rock, Cabot, Benton, Maumelle, Hidden Creek and more. My friend Rachel and I led one o of Highway 10 in the Ranch subdivision, and it was such a joy to go through the Word with neighbors that we didn’t know, and see how it deepened our relationships with each other.

ColoiansBook Clubs

Our book club was AWESOME! Our group ranges from very little Bible knowledge to a Pastor's wife, and covers four dierent denominations, as well as one from a dierent religion. We had great discussion and everyone was very open, receptive and excited. After figuring out some backgrounds, we delved into some very basic discussion about the Gospel and what it is. One woman responded that she had never heard that before!

COURTNEY VINCENTCammack Village

We had our Book Club at the pregnancy center, and it was just awesome! Great insights and questions! One of the women even mentioned how much she needed something like this because she rarely gets to church. I have to admit that I wasn't really sure what to expect when I went to the training session, but I'm so glad I did this!

BARBARA THOMPSONBenton Crisis Pregnancy Center

I was not sure I had the time to start a Bible study, nor did I feel adequate to lead one. I did know, though, that I wanted to spend time with other ladies, and that I wanted to spend more time in God's Word, so I set a time and a place and invited. Even though I am not normally an early riser in the summer time, our 6:30 am group has been a wonderful way to begin each week. The book of Colossians has reminded me that even when it seems like there is craziness around us, He has redeemed us and we can walk with Him in His power through it. We have been given hope and His Word is a continual reminder of that hope.

JULIE MUSECabot

My recent prayer requests have been answered in the Colossians Book Club! I had prayed to connect with some women in my neighborhood who knew little about the Bible and also to help some women either going through divorce or contemplating it. Both of these situations are happening in our group of seven with the help of several of my friends who have studied the Word for many years! What a "rich" group God has given to me! One person in our group said after only two meetings that she would like to continue meeting even after the four weeks are over! The casual, intimate setting and small group have been an asset.

On that hot June day, 29 Americans and three Haitians boarded two Nissan utility vans and a four door SUV and headed toward Pignon. According to Google, this drive covered a distance of about 90 miles and should have taken less than two hours.

Our journey began as we tried to maneuver in the streets of Port-au-Prince, crowded with vehicles, people and animals. I had the great pleasure in my vehicle of riding with a number of our FSK and FSM students. We discussed the various sites that we saw and asked questions about the dierences between Haiti and Cabot. As we got out of town, the sun began to fall. We drove in the dark, in the

IF YOU HAD ASKED ME BEFORE OUR GROUP FROM THE CABOT CAMPUS LEFT FOR HAITI WHAT I KNEW ABOUT THE COUNTRY, I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE TALKED WITH YOU FOR A GOOD HOUR. I’M A HISTORY TEACHER FOR GOODNESS SAKE! BUT AS IS

HIS CUSTOM, GOD WAS LAUGHING AT ALL THAT I THOUGHT I KNEW. NOWHERE WAS THIS MADE MORE CLEAR TO ME THAT ON THE INITIAL DRIVE FROM PORT-AU-PRINCE TO PIGNON. WE HADN’T BEEN IN THE COUNTRY TWO HOURS AND GOD WAS HARD AT WORK, SHOWING US EXACTLY HOW LITTLE WE KNEW AND HOW DEPENDENT WE WERE ON HIM.

Smacked InThe Head

By Aaron Randolf

rain, in cramped vehicles along a route that began on a bumpy yet strait road much like 67/167. It then became a road full of twists, turns, switchbacks, and mountains. However, the next stretch of the path rivaled any unlevel, dirt covered, logging road I’ve ever seen.

During this drive, our conversations in the back of the van went something like this: “Oh look a goat.” “Hey, look at all these kids running on the road.” “Wow! That cli goes straight down.” “That was a huge bump.” “I hit my head on the roof!” “Are we really driving through this river?” “We have no lugnuts?!”

To me, the drive was actually fun, until one of the vehicles become bogged down in mud while going up a hill. As someone who enjoys having an agenda and sticking to it, this drive was an incredibly humbling experience. Around every corner, over every hill, beyond every river, we would say, “This must be where we are going” or “it can’t be much further.” I would hear our trip leader ask the driver, “How much further?” Sometimes he would receive a grunt in response, but definitely no concrete answer. It didn’t help that our drivers spoke no English, and we had no translator.

It was during this trip that God smacked many of us in the back of the head. It was as if He was reminding us we weren’t in control. We couldn’t plan our way out of this. No matter how many checklists or Ziploc baggies of snacks we might have had in our bags, most of us had no idea how much further the drive would go on. This was the biggest takeaway for several of us. We couldn’t

control our lives, and we had to turn them over to God. We had no choice but to trust in Him, and let Him lead us.

You don’t go on a mission trip without expecting God to stretch you, humble you and teach you new things about Himself. But to our surprise, He did all these things before we even arrived at the place we would be serving that week. And because He did, our week was an incredible one, filled with even more stories of learning to depend on Him.

I read the first chapter in the book of Acts the next morning and laughed when I saw verse seven, “He said to them: "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.” That’s a great lesson for our lives, and it was certainly driven home during our week in Haiti.

For the record, it took us just over five hours to arrive on that first night.

I

We drove in the dark, in the

rain, in cramped vehicles along a route that began on a bumpy yet strait road much like 67/167.

We couldn’t

ACH YEAR, THE BENTON CAMPUS USES A WEEK-LONG BACKYARD BIBLE CLUB TO

MINISTER TO AN APARTMENT COMPLEX IN OUR VERY OWN BACKYARD. WE LOVE

THESE NEIGHBORS DEEPLY AND THIS IS YET ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY TO MINISTER TO

THESE SWEET PEOPLE AND THEIR FAMILIES. IT WAS AMAZING TO SEE THE NUMBER OF KIDS

FROM BOTH FELLOWSHIP AND CHAPEL RIDGE APARTMENTS AT OUR BACKYARD BIBLE CLUBS

HERE IN BENTON! THROUGH THE WEEK, WE HAD SOME AMAZING VOLUNTEERS STEP UP TO THE

PLATE. OUR KIDS LEARNED ABOUT THE SIX C’S OF HISTORY— CREATION, CORRUPTION,

CATASTROPHE, CONFUSION, CHRIST AND CROSS—IN HOPES TO TEACH THE IMPORTANCE OF

WHO JESUS IS, WHAT HE ACCOMPLISHED AND WHY HE HAD TO COME TO THE EARTH TO BE

OUR PERFECT SACRIFICE. THE CHILDREN WERE ABLE TO LEARN THESE TRUTHS THROUGH

BIBLE STORIES, CRAFTS AND INTERACTIVE GAMES. GOD MOVED IN GREAT WAYS THIS WEEK

AND WE ARE EXCITED TO SEE HOW HE WILL CONTINUE TO USE US AS WE MINISTER TO HIS

PEOPLE FOR HIS GLORY!
