Racquet Club & Bocce

The Racquet Club has weekly Tennis and Pickleball round robins, junior programs, clinics and lessons. Please contact the Racquet Club at (706) 268-3367 to register for events and for more details. Racquet Club and Bocce members may make court reservations online by logging in to bigcanoepoa.org.

Pickleball Clinics:Beginner Pickleball clinics are every Thursday at 11:00 a.m. No charge for this clinic, but reservations are required by calling (706) 268-3367. Clinic with the Pro is hosted every Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. Cost for this clinic is $15.00 per person. Reservations are required for this clinic.

Tennis Clinics:Clinic B & C level: Tuesdays, 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.Clinic A & B level: Tuesdays, 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.Open Clinic (all levels): Fridays, 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.Open Clinic (all levels): Saturdays, 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.Registration is required for all clinics, at $15.00 per person.

Pickleball Under the LightsWednesday, September 11, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.Bring a dish to share and show off your culinary skills. This event is limited to the first 24 players to register. Big Canoe Fall Bocce League Play August – Mid October

Monday Night Bocce August 26 thru October 14, 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.This is a casual event designed to socialize and have fun. This is no pressure bocce at its finest. There is a $5.00 per person fee for non-member Property Owners and a $10.00 per person fee for visitors. Please bring a snack to share and a beverage of choice.

Battle of the Sexes – Men versus WomenSaturday, November 9, 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.This is a fun battle between the men and women to prove who truly rules the bocce courts. There is no charge for members for this event. There is a $10.00 charge for non-member Property Owners and a $15.00 charge for visitors. Please call the Marina at (706) 268-3303 to make reservations for a pontoon, jon boat, canoe, paddle board or kayak, or to register for the following events. Big Canoe Property Owners may also make watercraft reservations by logging in to bigcanoepoa.org.

Marina hours are 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday - Sunday, April - October. Marina hours are 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. November – March. *All events are subject to change due to inclement weather.

Note that fishing permits are required and must be purchased at the Marina Shack. Daily, seasonal and weekly rates are available; children age 12 and younger do not require a permit.

Ladies of the LakeOne of the most popular events for ladies! Their captains, of course, are always bound by the oath, “What’s said on the lake stays on the lake.” Ladies usually bring snacks to share and their beverage of choice. There is a $10.00 charge for the sunset cruise, and they take place on the first & second Wednesdays of the month. Christmas Boat ParadeSaturday, November 30, 4:00 p.m.Let’s light up the lake with all of the lights and Christmas garland your boat can hold! Whether you are watching from way up on the mountain, or you are cruising with your loved ones, this is a great way to bring in the Christmas season. Cigar Club Every other week, Big Canoe’s Cigar Club gathers at the Marina Shack to light up, sip their favorite beverage of choice, and engage in banter on any and all subject matter. Join in on the fun and add your two cents’ worth to this amicable group of guys. Full Moon Lake Party Lake Petit, Big Canoe Marina Starting time: 90 minutes before sunset Throughout 2019, there will be official & unofficial Full Moon events on Lake Petit. Get on your paddle board, pull out your kayak, float your canoe or fill up your pontoon with friends for an evening on the lake! All are encouraged to light up your boards, kayak or boats, bring the fun and don’t forget about your picnic baskets! Contact the Marina for rentals! Acoustic ShowcaseFirst Thursday of each monthSwim Club, 7:00 p.m. The Acoustic Showcase has 31 talented musicians that rotate each month, with 10 playing at each event. Musicians perform two songs consecutively. Bring your favorite beverage and enjoy 90 minutes of great entertainment! Day Trips The Big Canoe Programs & Events Committee and the Big Canoe POA sponsor day trips throughout the year. In the past, Big Canoe groups have traveled to the Atlanta Botanical Garden, North Georgia Wineries, the Holly Theater, and attended concerts such as Billy Joel, Dobbie Brothers, Chicago and Mannheim Steamroller. Mountain Twilight ConcertSunday, September 22, 5:00 p.m.Playfield ParkBy popular request, Todd and Greg Pitts and their group, Southern Cross, are returning to Big Canoe to entertain us with their Tribute to Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. The brothers have been singing together since they were children, and Southern Cross, named after a favorite CSN&Y hit, was formed by the Pitts and members of other highly successful tribute projects. The talented group will perform their harmonic renditions of iconic and beloved CSN&Y hits that have impacted the Folk Rock music world for decades. A BIG thanks goes out to Fran Farias of State Farm for being this year’s sponsor. This is a FREE event. Oktoberfest Arts & Crafts FestivalSaturday, October 12, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.Wildcat Activity FieldPull out your Lederhosen and beer steins for the annual Big Canoe Oktoberfest Arts & Crafts Festival. Big Canoe Property Owners and their guests should plan to arrive early. Gates open at 10:00 a.m. for guests to discover over 50 arts and crafts vendors. Wares range from pottery, custom furniture to handmade jewelry and many are Big Canoe residents. Are you looking for der biergarten? The beer wagon will be ready to serve guests at 10:00 a.m. Come early. Stay late. Oktoberfest runs until 5:00 p.m. so patrons can delight in German Food, German Baked Goods, the German Oompah band, and all kinds of Bavarian FUN! For those youngsters under 21 years of age, this is a family-friendly event with LOTS for kids to do as well. Food and beverage vendors will use a ticket system for purchases, $2.00 equals one ticket. Purchase tickets ahead of time at the Wellness Center or Canoe Lodge starting Wednesday, October 2 or purchase at the Oktoberfest Ticket Tent. Parking is very limited at the Wildcat Recreation Area. Therefore, shuttle buses will transport guests from the lower level of the Upper Playfield Parking lot. Shuttles will run from 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. If needed, handicap parking will be available at the Wildcat Recreation area. This free event will happen rain or shine. Big Canoe Oktoberfest 2019 is set to be the best yet! Prost!

Trunk or TreatSaturday, October 26, 5:30 p.m.Wildcat Activity FieldThe Big Canoe POA is proud to present the annual Big Canoe Trunk or Treat along with the addition of our first annual chili cook-off! This is positively a block party and everyone in Big Canoe comes out for the fun! The hocus pocus will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the spell will last until darkness, 8:00 p.m. It’s Halloween, so come dressed in your best princess, cowboy and superhero costumes. Adults too! Costume contests will be held throughout the night and will be divided into the following categories: Under 5 years, 6 – 8 years, 9 – 12 years, Best Dog, Adult, Car and Best Group Ensemble. Remember, the most creative costume usually nabs the top prize; think outside the box and expand your imagination. Car decorating is a crowd favorite and this year, goblins will have plenty of time to set up their spirited sets. Trimming will begin at 2:00 p.m. on the Wildcat Activity Field and all cars must be parked and decorated by 5:00 p.m. All decorated vehicles will require a parking pass from the Big Canoe POA and can be picked up at the Canoe Lodge. Start the giving season early by donating a pint of blood to the Red Cross Blood Drive. Our goal is to reach 55 pints! We’ll have plenty of Nutter Butter cookies as rewards. Veteran’s Day ProgramMonday, November 11, 11:00 a.m.Big Canoe ChapelJoin us for our annual community remembrance and celebration of veterans. The North Georgia Veterans Chorus always makes the occasion even more special. This is a community event and all are invited to attend.

Big Canoe One Warm Coat DriveMonday, November 25 – Thursday, December 19Wellness Center, Canoe Lodge, Big Canoe ChapelForty-five million Americans are currently living in poverty. For these families and individuals, a warm coat is a budget extra they simply cannot afford. Big Canoe would like to invite Property Owners to make a difference in your neighbors’ lives by donating coats during our upcoming coat drive. The Big Canoe POA is working with One Warm Coat to collect clean, gently used warm coats from Monday, November 25 through Thursday, December 19 at the Big Canoe Wellness Center, Canoe Lodge, or the Big Canoe Chapel. The process is simple: you drop off your extra coat(s) and volunteers take care of the rest. All donated coats will be given to CARES of Pickens County for distribution to local children and adults in need. For more information, please contact Teri Sawyer at [email protected]

First Annual Turkey TrotThursday, November 28, 8:30 a.m.Playfield ParkJoin us for Big Canoe’s First Annual Half-Mile Turkey Trot! Dress in your craziest outfit or just bundle up and come join the fun!! We will start with Hot Chocolate and Hot Cider with Pumpkin Spiced Sweets before we run (trot) the loops around the playfield! Prizes will be given for the craziest outfit, fastest runner and most creative family costumes! Bring the grand kids, bring the kids...what a FUN way to start out TURKEY DAY! Big Canoe Holiday Celebration and Lighted Fire Truck ParadeSaturday, November 30, 5:30 p.m.Lake Petit Dam and Playfield ParkBig Canoe Public Safety and the Programs & Events Committee invite the Big Canoe community to the fourth annual Holiday Celebration featuring the fire department’s Lighted Fire Truck Parade decorated fire trucks will act as Santa’s trusted reindeer and then Santa will light the large, adorned Christmas tree to commence the holiday season. The jolly man will also be available to hear children’s secret hopes and wishes for the merry season. It wouldn’t be much of a holiday celebration without jubilant music, crafts and games. The Clubhouse at Lake Sconti, along with the Bear Society, will spark holiday cheer and festive toasts with hot chocolate and plenty of adult beverages to keep everyone warm. The annual Holiday Celebration is also a chance to give back to the local community. Big Canoe Public Safety will have designated boxes accepting Toys for Tots donations. As you shop for your family, neighbors and friends, remember to pick up a small toy to help reach a goal of 50 donations at this event only. The Holiday Celebration is free and open to all Big Canoe Property Owners, friends and family. We hope to see our entire community bundle up and enjoying the festivities with a merry and cheerful spirit!

Big Canoe POA Annual MeetingSaturday, December 7, 10:00 a.m.Big Canoe ChapelThe Big Canoe community is invited to the end of the year annual meeting to hear from POA Board of Directors, Senior Staff and POA committee members. Presentations will review the Property Owners Association’s finances, current activities and future plans in a wide-ranging, two-hour meeting. Complimentary coffee and doughnuts will be available in the Broyles Center from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

21st Annual Service of Lesson and CarolsSunday, December 15, 7:00 p.m.Big Canoe ChapelPlease join your friends and neighbors as we celebrate the season with both traditional and new carols. This is always a Big Canoe favorite and will be followed by a beautiful reception in Cousins Hall of the Broyles Center. All are invited and welcome.
