    Dear Parishioners,

This coming December 8, 2015 will be twice special since we will not only celebrate the Immaculate Conception of our Lady but also the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy will begin. Everyone is invited to attend at the XX pm Mass in which the Door of Mercy will be solemnly open in our Church. The reason why Pope Francis chose this date is clearly stated in his Bull of Indiction Misericordiae Vultus (3): “This liturgical feast day,” he says, “recalls God’s action from the very beginning of the history of mankind. After the sin of Adam and Eve, God did not wish to leave humanity alone in the throes of evil. And so he turned his gaze to Mary, holy and immaculate in love (cf. Eph 1:4), choosing her to be the Mother of man’s Redeemer. When faced with the gravity of sin, God responds with the fullness of mercy. Mercy will always be greater than any sin, and no one can place limits on the love of God who is ever ready to forgive. I will have the joy of opening the Holy Door on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. On that day, the Holy Door will become a Door of Mercy through which anyone who enters will experience the love of God who consoles, pardons, and instils hope.”

The Holy Father has also issued a letter where he focuses “on several points which I believe,” he says, “require attention to enable the celebration of the Holy Year to be for all believers a true moment of encounter with the mercy of God.”

There he explains the different ways in which we can obtain this indulgences during this Jubilee Year of Mercy. Please, read attentively:

    1. One of them is precisely “to make a brief pilgrimage to the Holy Door, open in every Cathedral or in the churches designated by the Diocesan Bishop, and in the four Papal Basilicas in Rome, as a sign of the deep desire for true conversion.” Pope Francis has also disposed that the Indulgence may be obtained in the Shrines in which the Door of Mercy is open and in the churches which traditionally are identified as Jubilee Churches. So that by crossing the threshold of the Holy Door, we will find the strength to embrace God’s mercy and dedicate ourselves to being merciful with others as the Father has been with us. (Misericordiae Vultus, 14) “It is important –says the Pope- that this moment be linked, first and foremost, to the Sacrament of Reconciliation and to the celebration of the Holy Eucharist with a reflection on mercy; and to accompany these celebrations with the profession of faith and with prayer for him and his intentions.” (Cf. Pope Francis, Letter to the President of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization, September 1, 2015)

    2. For those who are sick and home-bound, the Holy Father asks them “to live their sickness and suffering as an experience of closeness to the Lord who in the mystery of his Passion, death and Resurrection indicates the royal road which gives meaning to pain and loneliness. Living with faith and joyful hope this moment of trial, receiving communion or attending Holy Mass and community prayer, even through the various means of communication, will be for them the means of obtaining the Jubilee Indulgence.” (Cf. Pope Francis, Letter…)

    3. For those who are imprisoned he asks them to lift their thoughts and prayers to the Father, every time they enter in their prison cells as a way to win the indulgences.

    4. Furthermore, we can also apply this Jubilee Indulgences to the deceased. If we simply remember them in the Eucharistic celebration, and prayerfully ask our merciful Father “to free them of every remnant of fault and strongly embrace them in the unending beatitude.” (Cf. Pope Francis, Letter…)

    5. Very especially during this year we are called to practice the corporal and spiritual works of mercy and so “each time,” says Pope Francis, “that one of the faithful personally performs one or more of these actions, he or she shall surely obtain the Jubilee Indulgence.”

Trusting in the intercession of our Immaculate Mother of Mercy, I commend you all to her protection so that you may draw abundant fruits of this Holy Year.

    of our Dear Blessed Mother

On Friday, Nov. 27th, parishioners at all three daily masses each re-ceived a blessed Mi-raculous Medal.

The Virgin Mary gave the pattern for the medal to St. Catherine Labouré on Nov. 27th, 1830. Mary instructed Catherine that those who wear it will receive great graces, especially if they wear it around the neck. For more info, please visit: www.olop-shrine.org

    JUST DISCIPLINE

“Parents hold authority from God over their children and are responsible for them. Their children are as so much clay in their hands and what they become later on depends upon the way they have been molded. The authority given to the parents does not exist for their good, but for the good of those under them.” “Many parents lack or have lacked those qualities which command respect, particularly moral values. The respect that one has for a rule flows naturally from the respect that one has for the person who gives it.” “Every defect in character creates a defect in obedience…. Whether it be a general in an army, a teacher in a school or a parent in a home, there will never be a respect for a com-mand unless there is respect for the commander. It is ear-nestly to be hoped that the youngsters who are growing up now will not so much say, “The last generation has failed me,” but rather, “I will not fail the next generation.” (from Children and parents, Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen)
