CHRIST, THE KING The selection from the book of Daniel presented in today’s first reading was part of an attempt to weave a vision of ultimate success for the Jews under persecution. Exactly whom the author had in mind when he refers to “one like a Son of Man” is hotly disputed by scholars to-day. The fact is, we simply do not know if the author meant anyone in particular or if this is a collective, figura-tive image of Israel’s triumph. What we do know is that the early Christian community seized upon this passage and recognized it as a messianic prophecy, a foretelling of the ultimate triumph of Jesus as the Christ of God. The Lectionary’s juxtaposition of this text with today’s Gospel narrative of Jesus before Pilate is a wonderful example of how the liturgy “layers” passages with new meaning by inserting them in a particular context. The celebration of Christ the King allows us to hear these passages with a new depth of meaning in light of our contemporary understanding of how, in Jesus and his resurrection and ascension, we have seen the fulfill-ment of Daniel’s vision of ultimate deliverance. The veiled admission of Jesus before Pilate that he did in-deed have a kingdom “not here” takes on new meaning against the cosmic vision of Daniel, who allows us to glimpse the “Ancient One” on his heavenly throne. FEAST OF FAITH Procession

“The Mass is ended, go in peace.” At the beginning of Mass, the ministers entered in solemn procession, an em-blem of the diverse community that comes together around the altar each week to celebrate the Eucharist. As Mass ends, another procession forms, and the ministers go forth from the church. This concluding procession also acts as an emblem of the entire assembly, who, nourished by the Eu-charist, will now go forth to our scattered homes and places of work to be a transforming leaven of the gospel in the world. At the beginning of Mass, the priest kissed the altar as a sign of greeting, a gesture of reverence for Christ. Now, the priest reverences the altar again, this time in a gesture of farewell. We gather our things and go forth as we entered—but not quite. Through our celebration of the Eucharist, we have renewed our commitment to service of Christ our King, and we go forth nourished, strengthened, renewed—changed. —Corinna Laughlin, Copyright © J. S. Let us remember that, as much has been given us, much will be expected from us, and that true homage comes from the heart as well as from the lips, and shows itself in deeds. —Theodore Roosevelt

Five Babies Saved!!!

A heartfelt thank you to all those that participated in the 40 Days for Life Campaign that conclud-ed on Sunday 10/31/21. The attendance of those at the prayer vigils and the work of the side-walk counselors resulted in the most saves of any of the campaigns that have been conducted at the Access Health Center site. God bless you for what you have done! The sidewalk counselors will continue to be at Access Health and conduct an informal campaign. This resulted in the saving of another baby a week after the regular campaign had concluded. The counselors welcome those who can come and offer prayers to support their efforts and their pres-ence. They are generally there Tuesday to Saturday from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm. Please consider stopping by for whatever time you can offer. You need not commit to an hour or to a specific time. The clinic is at 1700 W 75th Street at the edge of Woodridge and Downers Grove. The total of babies saved from all the Fall campaigns reached 600. The total saved since the start of the campaigns is more than 19,000 and a total of 114 abortion centers have closed nationally. Prayer works!

Thank You!

Dear Parishioners, On behalf of Unbound, thank you very much for welcoming us to your parish. Our hearts are full of gratitude for the generosity you have shown to the children, youth and the elders in our sponsorship program. Through your willingness to partner with Unbound, your parish community has taken steps toward a closer walk with Jesus in the name of the poor. We pray that members of your parish community who answered the call to sponsorship will be richly blessed by their experience.

HELP PROVIDE A HOLIDAY DINNER Would you be interested in helping the Deacon Paul Brachle Food Pantry of Our Lady of Peace Parish with the cost of providing a Holiday dinner for a local needy family? You can do so by either purchasing a complete dinner or by making a donation to defray the cost of a dinner. The Darien Jewel-Osco, located at 7329 South Cass Avenue, is partnering with the Food Pantry to make the Holiday Season much brighter for those in need. Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, consisting of an entrée and three-side dishes, will be prepared by Jewel and then distributed by the Food Pantry. You can support our effort by making a donation or by going to the service desk if you wish to pay for a complete dinner. Please note that only the Darien Jewel-Osco location is designated to receive donations for the Deacon Paul Brachle Food Pantry. Please support this worthwhile effort. You will enjoy the

If you want to feel the true meaning of Christmas, we invite you to participate in our Giving Tree. Each year our parishioners are delighted for the opportunity to share with the less fortunate, at the same time the recipients of these gift cards are humbly grateful. Our Lady of Peace Giving Tree program provides a happy Christmas to local families who have difficulties making ends meet and

come to our parish weekly to benefit from our Food Pantry.

On Thanksgiving weekend, November 27- 28, two trees will be hung in church on the side walls adjacent to the altar. The trees will be decorated with angel or-

naments, numbered for specific recipients. The back side of the ornament will have a gift card request. We ask that you take an ornament ONLY if you are able

to purchase the gift card requested.

Please remember that by taking an ornament, you are making a commitment to provide a gift card.

Attach the ornament with the number visible to the gift card. Please deliver all gift cards to the School Lobby before or after the Masses, December 11 between 4 and 6pm or December

12 between 7am and 12:00pm. All gift cards must be turned in by 12 noon on Sunday, December 12th.
