Principal’s Report:

W ell done to our Year 7 soccer team who ventured

to Echuca yesterday under the watchful eye of

coach Mr. Dimovski. All reports are that they

were very well behaved, sportsman like, and their efforts on

the field could not be questioned. Whilst they didn’t bring

home any trophies and were beaten by stronger opposition

they represented us very well.

Next Monday 25th is of course the ANZAC public holiday

and there will be no school. We will conduct our student as-

sembly here tomorrow at Rochester Secondary College at

12.30 pm and our College Captains and Mrs McCarty will

represent us at the community ceremony next Monday.

Refurbishment to our north wing is almost complete and we

are hopeful that our College library will again be fully func-

tioning next week. Whilst works have been a little protracted

it is reassuring to know that there will be no further leaks and

painting and carpeting in various sections looks refreshed.

Tomorrow week (29th April) sees our annual Athletics carni-

val here at Rochester Secondary College. This is a very im-

portant date on our extra curricula calendar and certainly not

a day to be away from school. This year promises to be extra

colourful and competitive. There will be BBQ’s, plenty of

excitement and as always some outstanding individual and

team performances. I encourage parents and visitors to at-

tend.

Our Grade 6 information evening is on May 4th at 7.00 pm.

If you know of any families moving to the Rochester district

please be sure to have them contact us for details. Our Open

Day Tour of the school will be on Monday May 2nd.

BEN QUILTY -

After Afghanistan Exhibition

W hat an amazing exhibition and what an inspiring

artist and individual Ben Quilty is. Thursday 14th

April, Ms Nichol and ten of her beautiful Year 12

Studio Art students took a very quick trip to the Castlemaine

Art Gallery to complete an Outcome and prepare themselves

for the final Studio Art exam, which will occur in October.

Students need to write and review 2 exhibitions in the final

exam.

The 'After Afghanistan' Exhibition at the Castlemaine Art Gal-

lery was the perfect regional venue to visit. Students were

briefed by the gallery’s Education Officer, Ms Margo Spalding

and Director/Curator of the exhibition Ms Jennifer Kalionois.

The staff of the gallery ensured that the students had a good

understanding of the exhibition and Ben Quilty's unique art

style. This experience will definitely stand the Year 12's in

good stead for their final exam.

The day's excitement was further heightened when Ms Nichol

managed to meet and speak with well known Australian come-

dian/actor Mr Barry Humphries (alias Dame Edna Everage).

Thanks to Mrs Frawley and Mrs McCarty for their support.

G reetings from the team at Go Girl, Go for IT.

We are in full swing organising our fantastic Go

Girl, Go For IT event scheduled for 16th August at Dea-

kin University.

Go Girl, Go For IT is a free, full day event planned espe-

cially for female secondary school students, years 7 to

12. Our aim is to excite and engage students by intro-

ducing them to the wide range of global, rewarding and

varied career options in the IT space. The event seeks to

inspire students with fantastic speakers, showcasing the

technologies of the future and challenging preconcep-

tions of a career in IT.

Sophie Blackford, Brand Development at Instagram

Australia is the event patron. Along with other female

role models in IT, she will discuss and demonstrate how

IT qualifications can lead to challenging and exciting

careers ranging from small not-for-profits to the largest

multi-nationals. There will be workshops throughout the

day and a careers expo where attendees can acquire use-

ful information on prospective employers.

See Mr Borger for a copy of the program for the day. If

there is sufficient interest then a bus can be arranged to

take students to the event, free of cost.
