The Marion G. Resch Science Scholarship Meet the Resch Foundation The Resch Foundation was established in 2000, in memory of the late Mrs. Marion G. Resch, an upstanding member of the Mahoning Valley community and a philanthropist. During her life, Mrs. Resch always held education in special regard. True to her legacy, the Resch Foundation is committed to promoting the education of young people throughout the Mahoning Valley. What is the Resch Science Scholarship? Beginning in 2006, the Resch Science Scholarship Program at Thiel College has provided college funding opportunities to young adults from the Mahoning Valley. The scholarships are awarded to high school students who have shown both interest and promise in their academic performance in science and have made commendable efforts in other subjects as well. The scholarship applies to students committed to earning a bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, environmental science, neuroscience, communication sciences and disorders, or physics. Secondary education majors with a concentration in the sciences also will be considered. The scholarship provides partial tuition funds after all other possible scholarship, grants and other tuition reduction programs have been applied.

What is the Resch Science Scholarship?

Beginning in 2006, the Resch Science Scholarship Program at Thiel College has provided college funding

opportunities to young adults from the Mahoning Valley. The scholarships are awarded to high school students who

in other subjects as well. The scholarship applies to students committed to earning a bachelor’s degree in biology,

How Do I Apply to Thiel College?

1. Scholarship applicants must apply to and meet acceptance

standards of Thiel College prior to being eligible.

Apply online at www.thiel.edu/apply.

2. Accepted student applications for Resch Awards will be reviewed

as they are received which will allow these scholarships to be

incorporated into the total financial aid award package.

Early application is encouraged as the number of awards

available is limited.

3. By February 15, complete the online application or

submit your essay via mail to:

Student Qualification ProfileApplicants must be accepted and have Free Application for Federal Student Aid submitted to Thiel College:

• Demonstrate a history of good performance, attendance and interest in high school science; while being an average to above average student in other subjects;

• Be a full-time student in a four-year degree program in biology, chemistry, environmental sciences, physics, communication sciences and disorders, secondary education in science, or neuroscience at Thiel College, or an affiliated pre-professional program of any length;

• Be a permanent resident of the Ohio counties of Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana during your senior year in high school;

• Demonstrate acceptable performance and academic potential in school and an exemplary behavior record;

• Remain in good academic standing and remain within the science field while at Thiel College to continue to receive the scholarship;

• Sign a waiver (included in the scholarship application) allowing Thiel College to release a copy of their financial aid package and on-going performance at Thiel College to the executive director of the Marion G. Resch Foundation.

Students will be evaluated in three ways, including a score on their application package, evaluation of their federally-determined expected family contribution (the scholarship is partially need-based), and a consideration of their remaining out-of-pocket expenses after all other aid is applied.
