THE MAIN TASK - TECHNICAL PROGRESS B. V. Z akhar'in Boris Vladimirovich Zakhar'in is highly respected at the Combine. He has worked here since 1947, after graduating from the Rubezhan Chemical Technology Institute, as head of the repair-mechanical de- partment and then as the chief mechanic. In his working years during the restoration of the factory de- stroyed by the war, B. V. Zakhar'in, together with the collective of workers, took part in reconstructing the pump-accumulator section, modernized the pumps and high-pressure accumulators with independent systems of hydraulic control and safety, and converted the furnaces to oil fuel. The mechanization of the manual work of the setting operators together with the designers involved creating a special lightweight mobile transporter. In 1956 Zakhar'in was made head of the design office, and later chief designer of the Combine. He is occupied with the mechanization of such processes as transportation, weighing and loading raw materials into ballmills used for wet grinding in the sanitary-building products division, transporta- tion of the powders tothe tile production presses, and loading clay and grinding runner mills. B. V. Zakhar'in plays an active part in designing and introducing new apparatus made from ceramics for the chemical industry. He is an active inventor and rationalizer. Many of his proposals have been used at the Combine. He is one of the authors of a design [1] for an original drive and special clutch for ceramic ballmills which have facilitated the replacement of ceramic components without demolishing the drive. Following regular production of such mills in 1972 the factory received savings of 103,000 rubles. The introduction of rationalist proposals from this worker (conveyer drier instead of chamber) with the de- velopment of acidproof tiles in department No. 2 guaranteed savings of 9200 rubles, the casting drying conveyer for consumer products in an industrial-experimental department 10,140 rubles, and the friction press with a rotating table for pressing decorative figured metlakh tiles, 18,300 rubles. The total saving from Zakhar,in's ideas and inventions amounted to about 150,000 rubles. Boris Vladimirovich together with his team carries out a lot of public work, is also a member of the party committee, and is chairman of the knowledge society at the Combine, and chairman of a group of national control committees. At present he is a propagandist, actively taking part in the work of the com- mission for improving the standards of production and developing production aesthetics. Following publica- tion of the results of the competitions for engineering-technical workers for the title of "Best Engineer of the Combine" in 1972 he was awarded this title, and others. No section contains a worker like Boris Vladimirovich; he gives to his work all his knowledge, experience, and dedication.
