The Inspiration behind Rosie Black
After mind-mapping ideas about what sub-genre of film to make, we came up with the idea to create a Psychological Thriller. This premise came from discussing films like Black Swan and The Orphan. Both these films had aspects we liked.
Black Swan focussed on the idea of “split-personality” shown through the main characters performance of the ‘Black Swan’ and ‘Swan Queen’. This idea, of having a character with a split-personality was very interesting and would allow us to show creativity in many ways.
Orphan also had interesting ideas. The main character was hiding her true identity, something with our character, Rosie Black, would have to do due to her personality disorder.
Also, the drawings in Orphan create a very sinister atmosphere as we don’t expect children to be so evil. Therefore, this is something else we wanted to include in the trailer.
Another film we took inspiration from was Hide and Seek. Again, this film involves a child antagonist which is much more sinister than an adult. Although we didn’t use a child, having a teenager also creates a sinister atmosphere.
