Melba - Once again, Nampa Odd Fellow Lodge #40 donated dictionaries to the 3rdGraders at Lake Ridge Elementary in Nampa. Lake Ridge Elementary has over 100 3rdGraderswhoreceivedtheirveryownbook.ThisisNampa#40’ssecondtimetodeliverthebooksandLakeRidgeisveryhappythatNampa#40haspickedtheirschooltoreceivethedictionaries. Afewdayslater,MelbaRebekahLodge#105donateddictionariestothe3rdGradersatMelbaElementaryinMelba.MelbaElementaryhasabout653rdGraderswhoreceivedtheirownbook.Melba#105hasbeendoingthisformanyyears,andMelbaElementaryisalwayshappytohearthatwehavedictionariesfortheir3rdGraders. BrotherTomAshleyisamemberofbothLodgesandhegaveawonderfultalktothemondifferentthingstheirdictionarieshave.JustafewofthethingsBrotherTomsharedwiththemisthelongestword(ithas1,909letters),signlanguage,andamultiplicationtablejust. Melba#105andNampa#40arebothsponsoringaReadaBookforachancetowinabikeattheendoftheyear.Thestudentswillbereadingallyearlonginallgradesinbothschools.Theywillbeawardedticketsthatwillbeputintoadrawingattheirschool,andoneluckyboyandoneluckygirlticketwillbedrawntowinabike.

Nampa-TheMeritAwardisanawardthatrecognizesamemberforhis/heroutstandingdedicationtoOddFellows.Withthisinmind,thenameofBrotherTomAshley,adedicatedmemberofNampaOddFellowLodgeNumber40,comesintoone’smind. BrotherTomservedasTrusteeforover10years,hehasplayedabigpartofNampa40’sChristmasparty,foralongtime,BrotherTommadesureallthechildrenwhoattendedthepartyreceivedaspecialgiftfromSanta,plusBrotherTomwasandistheheadChief,cookingthe turkeys toperfection,makingbowlafterbowlofmashpotatoes,andkeepingthepunchbowls full. BrotherTomalsooverseesthedecoratingofthetablesforthisfestiveevent.BrotherTomhasalsoworkedonthescholarshipcommitteewhenNampa40didthis,plushe

alsoworkedonthePilgrimageprogram.BrotherTomhasservedasNobleGrandofNampa40,andhasheldtheTreasurerofficeforanumberofyears,makingsurethatNampa40’sbillswereandarepaid.Whenthebuildingwaspaintedseveralyearsago,BrotherTomwastherehelpingwithwhateverneededtobedone. NotonlydoesBrotherTomworkdiligentlyforNampa40,healsoworksfortheGrandLodgeservingasGrandMastertwice,plusotherappointedofficesandmanycommittees.BrotherTom is very active in the Melba Rebekah Lodge 105 where he has been NobleGrand several times, and has held numerous other positions. Brother Tom is also veryactiveinTemple3EncampmentholdingtheofficeofChiefPatriarchandotherofficesintheEncampment.BrotherTomhasalsoheldtheofficeofGrandPatriarchofIdaho.AlongwithbeingactiveinhishomeLodges/Encampment,BrotherTomisalsoassociatemembersforOddFellows,Rebekah,andEncampment.IneachofhisAssociatemembershipyouwillfindBrotherTom’snameasbeingaveryactivemember,heisnotonetositonthesideline,butonewhoisalwayshelpingwhereverheisneeded. AlongwithBrotherTom’sdedicationtoourLodge,hewastheguardianofamentallychallengedyoungmanformanymanyyears.Whenevertheyoungmanneededhelp,duetoillnessorwhatever,BrotherTomwasalwaystheretohelphim. Nampa 40 sends a BIG THANK YOUtoallwhodonatedtoourbookdriveduringour Christmas party. Due to all of you, nomatterhowmuchorhow littleyoudonatedweareverythankfultoallofyourgenerosity.Becauseofeachandeveryoneof youweraised$400.Nampa40membershadagreedtomatch thedonations from theparty,withthis in mind, we are planning on donatingbooks to two different elementary schoolshereinNampa. During our Christmas party Santa andhisElvesjoinedus.Santa,withthehelpofhisElves,gavegiftstoalltheyoungchildren.The “older” children also joined Santa andreceivedagift. Awhiteelephantexchange tookplace,thegiftsrangedfromfunnytoserious.Therewerebooks,sillyputty,adoll,candles,andwhoknows!ThegifttheElfgaveyouwasthegiftyouwerestuckwith,butnooneseemedtomind. BrotherTomAshleywasrecognizedforallofhisdedicationandhardworkforNampa40andtheOrder.BrotherTomwaspresentedwithameritjewelandaplaque.

FunandFundRaisingbecamethethemeoftheAmosAmosetteBanquetatSessionsthisyear.Ofcoursewecan’tforgetallofthecostumes that showed up (this means youJoe Sirani), the fashion show, and oh yesthetutuskirtwornbyourGrandMasterandSovereign Grand Master to raise funds forthe “Brave Enough to Wear Pink” banquet.ThanksgoouttotheReedsfromWashingtonwhodonatedaPinkRibbonBlanket (twice)that was auctioned off. But the biggestsuccesswasdonatingallthemoneyraisedattheBanquetplusthePresidentspinmoney,a total over $1,400.00, to a young motherbattlingbreastcancer,HeatherVanOstrand.ThemembersofRoyalGemRebekahLodgealerted us to the needs of this mother andwe broke records raising money at thebanquettohelpher.HerthankyounotetotheRebekahAssemblysaysitall.Thankstoall who donated and helped make this oneof thebestbanquets. AndthePinkRibbonBlanket isnowon itsway inOregontoseehowmuchmoremoneyitcanraiseforPinkRibbonprojects.

TherewasnopublicserviceperMother’swishes A Private family service was heldMonday,December23,2019,attheNampaFuneralHome.IntermentwasatCanyonHillCemetery,Caldwell,Idaho. LillianwasbornAugust7,1921,inSaltLakeCity,Utah,toDavidAlmaDennett&AdriaRosalieBenfellDennett.Shewasdeliveredbyherfatherintheirhome. Afterthedeathofherfather,hermothermarried Mr. Tidwell & he moved the entirefamilytoIdahotoasmallhousejustbelowthelowerdamofLakeLowell.Shewas13atthetime.Thisiswhereshemetherlife-longlove,CalvinHoadley.Shesaiditwasloveatfirstsight,theyjustdidn’tknowit!TheymarriedSeptember 13, 1938, in Nampa, Idaho &beganajourneythatneitherofthemexpected.They never moved out of the community– lived thereall the remainingdaysof theirlives within one square mile from their firstlittletwo-roomshack!Theyhadfourchildren,David, Fred, Christine & Randy, which inturngavethem15grandchildren:These15grandchildrenpresentedherwith35.8greatgrandchildren [one isdue in January]&13greatgreatgrandchildren.Sheadoredthemone&all.
