WEEK 4 - SITE (SUN SHADES)

In this assignment, we did different parts of the site as a 4 people group, I did the climate, and this is our link: https://issuu.com/cedricchua1/docs/siteanalysis?e=24068058/34303170

As you can see in the pictures on the top, there has three paintings about sunshades at 3 different times in one day, 9am, 1pm, and 5pm, which show the sun moves from east to west. In terms of temperature, I used different colours to represent hottest area and cooler area on the lawn.

WEEK 5 - SPATIAL COMPOSITION

In this model, the main idea is inserting, i used particular number of cardboard pieces, insert and support each other, and square shape, to create a structure. It shows how different pieces combined together spatial through inserting.

Techniques: tilting and folding

In this model, it has a few flat slops and horizontal structures. On the two sides, has one raised platform and one concave.

I did this model too particularly, i gave the place functions and purposes which is not needed in this assignment, and i draw the section incorrectly, on the right side is the developed piece.

WEEK 7 - ASSEMBLAGE

Compositional strategy is GRAFT (conjunction).

I combined two previous models, the square and tilt and fold landforming. In this model, every pieces are grafted and inserted, instead of stick together by glue. The model is too flat, i should have make it has more ups and downs.

Narrative story: (activity: debate)

This collage shows: People start a new world in underground. They fight for social status. People in higher position rule the place and control daily needs and resources, and they have enough food and clothes. People in lower status, fight for getting food and clothes; moreover, human bones are abandoned in the dark corner.

WEEK 10 - SPATIOTEMPORAL NARRATIVE & EXPERIENCE COLLAGE

Spatiotemporal narrative story: (activity: debate, material: concrete)

In 5016, after a huge nuclear explosion, the surface of earth is not suitable for human beings, animals, and other creatures to live anymore, people forced to move to underground and rebuilt a new world. The resources are extremely short in the new city, they used materials such as concrete and windows from abandoned buildings on the ground to build facilities and road. People fight for higher social status, which can get more daily supplies, people in the lowest positions have no abilities to live in this new savage world and die in the dark corner.

In the model on the right, I showed MSD (right) and Union House (left) and surroundings on the ground, the main part for it is set in the underground. The material is concrete, which can be used in the underground by using the abandoned building materials, for example, on the ground, it has two windows and one tunnel for breathing made by leftovers.

In the underground, it has three different spaces provide resting places for people, from the highest to the lowest represent the three social status, from higher to lower. Those stairs and bridges in between connect different parts in the underground, and the stairs on the highest resting place lead to cafe shop in MSD, which is the entrance of underground world.

REFLECTIONIn this semester, i did not really good in Designing environment. I am not very satisfied about my work due to three reasons. Firstly, I am not good at drawing, I have not learned to draw before, and I can not do high level architectural or technical drawings, which i am going to learn in this break. Secondly, i think i am not creative enough to come up interesting and fresh ideas for making models. Thirdly, i recon i need to work on my techniques on making models. Although i had questions and mistakes in my assignments, I received a number of comments and feedbacks from my tutor on my works, and i tried my best to understand and not to repeat the mistake again in my next one.

Nevertheless, i enjoyed this semester, i had a great time and the process of making models is really fun and worthy. In my opinion, this subject is a gradually process from easy and simple task to higher level projects, which i think is a reasonable curriculum. Hope i could do better in every subjects for next semester. 12
