WHO DID THE “HUNTING”?

The Jews and the other minorities were ‘hunted’ by the Nazis.

The Gestapo was the secret police and the SS was Hitler’s elite military group

The Einsatzgruppen job was to round up all the Jews and other “undesirables” living within Germany's territories, and send them to concentration camps or kill them

They operated without any restrictions

WHY THE “HUNTING” TOOK PLACE? After WWI, Germany was in a very

bad economic state Many blamed the Jews for the

depression Hitler was able to use the Jews as a

scapegoat for Germany’s post war problems

On November 9th, 1938 the “Reichs Kristallnacht” took place

EFFECTS ON JEWISH PEOPLE A loss of religious beliefs, self-respect,

and dignity Massive amounts of Jewish people were

killed by the concentration camps or Nazi death squads

Constant state of fear consumed their lives each and every day

Lost their own human identity by being treated like animals

COMMUNITY REACTIONS People in the communities often risked

their own lives to hide Jewish families Many rebellions were lead by non-Jewish

people to stop the outrageous ways of Hitler

People who lived near concentration knew what was going on but never did anything about them

Due to the fear of being persecuted themselves many people just looked the other way
