“Life is better Connected.” Warm Thoughts from Beth Youth Happenings A Note From the Pastor

Can you believe it fall is just around the corner, or at least that is what it is called on the calendar. In Texas we call it “Not quite as hot.” Whatever the coming season might be called the time when school starts back again is right around the corner. The summer has flown by. We have done lots of amazing things, and seen God do amazing things in and through our church. The fall however, is an interesting time. It is a time where things get back to normal, and people get back in their routines. Wouldn’t it be incredible if as your friends and neighbors got back into their rou-tines they made church apart of that routine. It is possible, but the challenge is before you because you have to invite them. The month of August is the perfect opportunity to invite people to join us, and to help you have some-thing to invite them to we are going to throw a party or two. I want you to mark your calendars for Au-gust 23 for the Back to School Bash. We are going to have an evening of hot dogs and games in Lindale park to celebrate the end of summer and the new school year. Then that next Sunday August 27 is kick off Sunday. I want you to wear your favorite jersey and come to church ready to kick off the fall in style, we are even going to have a tail gate party style lunch after service. The fall is coming and we are excited and gearing up for it, but these events are only going to be as great as we can make them and the more friends and neighbors you invite the more amazing they will be. So that is the challenge invite your friends and neighbors to celebrate the end of fall and the start of the school year with us. If we can get our friends and neighbors to engage with us in these events and we build relationships with them they will see that we have a place for them on Sunday’s and Wednesday’s and hopefully we can see a new pattern develop in the lives of our friends and neighbors. It is amazing when we get to be apart of the work of God in the world, and that work in August is inviting friends and neighbors to party with us. Blessings, Nathan

Dear Loved Ones, It’s August, and summer is almost over. School will soon begin, and we’ll be back to our “school-year sched-ule.” God has done so many great things in the last few months. Since commissioning our first members out of Discover First on April 2, we have added sixty-six to our roles and baptized nineteen! Praise God! We are excited about what God has done, and even more excited about what He will continue to do, in and through FBC Gal-veston in the next school year. Before school starts, we have a few exciting events in the month of August. We have Bailey Smith, evangelist and former SBC President, coming to preach on Sun-day, August 6. This will be a great opportunity for you to invite your lost friends or those you know do not cur-rently have a church home. I’ve asked that we all pray through the “Each One Reach One” cards in prepara-tion for this special Sunday (be praying for at least five people you know who do not yet know Jesus as Savior and invite them to church that day). Later in the month, we will have a “Back-To-School Bash” at Lindale Park on Wednesday, August 23. This is the same park where we had our Easter Egg Hunt. We’ll have hotdogs, chips, cookies, and drinks; as well as inflatables and games for the kids. My hope is that we will have great participation from our people, but that we will all use this as an opportunity to invite our unchurched friends to this event. We will finish out the month with a “Kick-Off Sunday” on Sunday, August 27 and our first Wednesday evening of the school year on Wednesday, August 30. I encour-age you all to wear your favorite team gear to church for “Kick-Off Sunday” and stay for our “Tail-gate” lunch after the service. Also, please plan on giving Wednesday evenings a try this fall. We will have a fellowship sup-per at 5:00 p.m., followed with Bible Study for adults and Awana's and choir for the kids at 6:00 p.m. My prayer is that we will continue to walk with the Lord, being faithful to Him and His Word, and be able to see His faithfulness to our church. I pray that we will find ourselves living out the reality of the early church in Jerusalem who were “praising God and having favor with all the people. And every day the Lord added to them those who were being saved” (Acts 2:47). Lord help us to be the church who sees people being saved every day because of our faithfulness to you and your Word! In Christ, Bro. John

Prizes...$50 Games...$75 Food...$150 Registration...$165/per child Lodging...inconvenience Cooking...volunteering time Chaperoning...time, effort, emotions 3 salvations... priceless Our church counted the cost of sending students to camp this summer. We decided the money, time, effort, prayer, and tears would be worth it if rela-tionships with Jesus and within the youth student body could be strengthened. I'm happy to report that our investment returned in abundance. As evidence of the three students baptized in church recently, everything was worth it. All the students that went worked on developing a discipline of qui-et time, removing apathy from their worship, and strengthening the body of Christ. No cell phones were used by the students all week. Bibles were opened, notes were taken, tears were shed. All for the glory of our savior. Summer is winding down and we will soon be back in our regular routines. Pray for what the Lord is doing in our youth ministry. Our small groups just finished sessions on dreaming big and apologetics. We will be starting a new small group session on how we were made to make a difference leading up to our return to school. We are excited about fin-ishing the summer off and getting back into the mission field of schools. Zach

Happy August! It has been a wonderful summer full of fun and lots of happy memories! Enjoy your last few weeks to-gether soaking up those lazy days of summer before the school year starts again!

I must say, I am EXTREMELY looking forward to all that is in store this fall at First Baptist in the Children’s Ministry! I cannot wait until our Promotion Sunday, Au-gust 27th, that will “Kick-off” the new school year. Wear your favorite sport’s team attire that day and stay after church for a special Tailgate Lunch! In addition, we will be having a “Back-to-School” picnic at Lindale Park on Wednesday, August 23rd from 6:00 – 8:00! We will have hotdogs, games, bounce houses, crafts, and fun! What a wonderful way to serve our community! Invite your friends and neighbors!

Now, the most important thing that I am truly ex-cited about, is that we are adding TWO new classes to our Sunday mornings and Wednesday night schedule! We will now have a Baby Class, a Toddler Class, a 2’s and 3’s Class, a 4’s-Kinder Class, a 1st-2nd Grade Class, a 3rd-4th Grade Class, and a 5th-6th Grade Class! Wow…are we growing! What a blessing! However, we need help! We still need teachers to help serve in these classes on both Sunday morning and Wednesday night! Please pray about seeing if this is where God might be leading you! We also need peo-ple to serve once a month on a rotation in the nursery, tod-dler room, and in Island Kids’ Worship! Our kids need us to lead them! Please let me know if you are interested. Start praying now for all of the spots to be filled!

Here is an awesome “Back-to-School Survival Kit” that you can make for your kiddos and give them the night before school starts. (Tape the items on an index card, and write the note and Bible Verse beside it and place these in a bag.)

Toothpick: Pick out good qualities in others. (Matt. 7:1)

Pencil: To remind you to list your blessings every day. (Eph. 1:3)

Rubber Band: Be flexible, things might not always go the way you want. (Rom. 8:28)

Eraser: Everyone makes mistakes and it’s okay! (Gen. 50:15-21)

A Hug: Everyone needs a hug everyday. (1 John 4:7) Band-Aid: Heal hurt feelings – yours or someone

else's. (Col. 3:12-14) Chewing Gum: Stick with it and you can accom-

plish anything with Jesus! (Phil. 4:13) Mint: You were “mint” to be loved by your Heavenly

Father. (John 3:16-17)

You are loved, Beth Turner
