Waste Minimisation PolicyHere at the Dunedin Craft Beer & Food Festival we’ve been looking at ways to make today not only bigger, but also better by keeping it in line with what we believe Dunedin people would like to see at our event. A question that came up regularly was; how could we make this an eco-friendly event? After much research we have implemented a strong waste minimisation plan to reduce the waste to landfill.

So how will this work? Upon entry you, and all the attendees, will have received a reusable polycarbonate tasting glass and booklet. This is to use at all the delicious drinks sites and you have the option to take these home as

souvenirs. Alternatively, you can recycle both the tasting glass and the booklet in one of the many yellow recycling bins provided. No glass in the public areas or cheap plastic/polystyrene cups will be used today!

All food sites will be strictly using compostable packaging and these can be placed in the green compostable collection bins along with your food scraps. We have recycling stations throughout the site (just take a look at the site map in the booklet) with simple, user-friendly signage and manned by friendly volunteers to answer any waste questions that you may have.

After the event wraps up tonight we’ll be ensuring all waste is distributed to the correct places to help reduce waste to landfill. Nice, simple and soon to be effective!

IMPORTANT: All alcohol service will cease from 6.30pm

Volunteers are awesome! OUSA and the Dunedin Craft Beer & Food Festival LOVE volunteers. They are the people buzzing around the festival helping us, and you, out. Without them, we just couldn’t do what we do. Thanks to all our vollies, you’re the BEST!

Contribute your photos and clips! This year we have teamed up with the crew at Mixbit as their amazing app will be great for crowdsourcing content throughout the day. If you have an iPhone and feel quite handy with capturing great images, make sure you download the app today for the chance to stamp your mark on the Dunedin Craft Beer & Food Festival. Keep an eye out on the big screen to see your uploaded images and videos play throughout the day.

Page 7: The 2015 Dunedin Craft Beer & Food Festival - Official Event Programme

7. Have a go at Beer & Food matching!

Check out the full list of food providers in this booklet to see what you want to try. To get the most out of your day we recommend having a yarn to the chef to find out which beers they think their food will match. Then you can see if you agree with them.

The best tip we can give is that you don’t have to try every beer on the menu! Start out light, have a good look around and see what gets your palate salivating.

Not feeling so good? The great folks from Red Frog will be on hand with water all day, head over and have a water break - all it’ll cost you is tomorrow’s headache!

The OUSA’s Are You OK? team and the highly skilled experts from St. John will be on hand to help you out if things take a turn for the worst. Please familiarise yourself with the First Aid location and if you or anyone you see need assistance or first aid, please head over ASAP or ask a security guard for assistance.

Get home safe!We want you to make the right decision about getting home safe. Our mates at Cooke Howlison Holden are providing a FREE “Traxi” service to take you home safely - for more info, turn to page 9! These will no doubt be popular, so if you would rather not wait you can always call yourself a conventional taxi (like Dunedin Taxis on 03 477 7777)

Festival t-shirtsWishing you could take more of the Dunedin Craft Beer & Food Festival home with you? Well, now you can! A limited run of festival t-shirts are available from the Festival Bar for $25. Get in quick before they sell out!

Last DrinksAll alcohol sales will cease at 6:30pm, so make sure you’ve had a taste of everything you wanted to try by then. Food vendors will continue to operate until the festival ends at 7pm, so grab some dinner before you head off!

Lost Property and Coat CheckIf you’ve lost something, or want somewhere safe to leave your coat before you lose it, check out our Lost Property and Coat Check area between the Seminars and Kids’ Zone. Earplugs are also available for $1 if the music gets a bit loud for you!

Digital WristbandsYour wristband can be topped up throughout the day. Visit the top up bank at the East end of the stadium (next to the seminar area) or holla at one of our mobile top up crew members who will be cruising around the festival throughout the day.

You can top up with cash or EFTPOS and all it takes to transfer credit on or off your wristband is you holding your hand under the machine! Easy as. Please ensure you stop by the top-up station on your way out to get a refund so you’ve got cash for a taxi home! Otherwise you can donate what credit remains to the festival charity! Nice.

Drink Responsibly! This is a family friendly event, please act appropriately for those younger patrons who are experiencing an event like this for the first time. We have a selection of non-alcoholic drinks and coffee available for purchase, and of course all our water is FREE!

The Dunedin Craft Beer & Food Festival is about enjoying quality rather than quantity, if you’re intoxicated you will not be served and may be asked to leave. Please be respectful of the employees, vendors, and lovely people who have come to have a great time.

Hydration Make your festival experience fun, not five minutes! If you’re a true connoisseur you’ll know it’s key to match a glass of water for every beer, it cleanses the palate and also means you’ll be a little less dusty tomorrow morning! We’ve got heaps of free water about the place, so take advantage and make the day last.

Water stations are located around the venue thanks to Red Frogs, so make sure for your own sake that you get the most out of them!

SmokingThe covered areas of the Forsyth Barr Stadium are smoke-free. If you wish to partake in a quiet durry, pop to either area indicated on the map and just smile at anyone who looks angry and maybe move a bit further away from them as you wink awkwardly.

Kids Zone!

Radio Hauraki Rec RoomThe team from Radio Hauraki are stoked to be a part of the DCBFF this year so they’ve gone all out and set up their very own Rec Room down by the stage. That means you can be in the thick of the action while kicking back and soaking in the atmosphere.

The Radio Hauraki Rec Room will be packed with activities and all day entertainment, from a mechanical bull, to pool, foosball, there is something to tickle everyone’s fancy! They’ll also have a life sized game of prize pong out so there’ll be spot prizes to be won all day, and the crew from Burger Blue are joining them exclusively (they’ve even wrangled some freebies too), so make sure you head down and say gidday. Alex Behan from the night show has flown in to join the party so really… it’d be rude not to!

With heaps of craft materials, face painting, balloon animals and a bouncy castle, there’s plenty of FREE entertainment for the little ones in the Kids Zone! You won’t miss it, just look around for the giant inflatable pirate ship.

Please note the Kids Zone is not supervised, so please stay close by – you’re welcome to relax on the stadium seats overlooking the area. The Kids Zone will operate from 12 to 5pm.

DUNEDIN SPACE PROGRAMME WITH AMADEO! This year we have Dunedin’s favourite science presenter Amadeo performing science shows for the kids (and adults too!). 11. Meet the

MUSICIANS Robert GlenRobert Glen is a Scotsman currently living in Wanaka. Having now been there for the past two years, Robert has had the pleasure of supporting many great acts including, Paul Ubana Jones, Swamp Thing and many more.

Currently Jody Direen’s guitarist, Robert says music is his passion and his life. With a wide range of styles including blues, folk, acoustic, rock and some amazing loop pedal work, look forward to hearing Robert’s dynamic style as he starts what’s sure to be an amazing day of music.

Left or Right SoundsystemLeft or Right Soundsystem consists of 2 of the 3 members of Dunedin/Invercargill’s premier Nuggety Rock/Reggae band Left or Right.

The format is quite different to their full band, suited to a more relaxed setting, but still brimming with good times and clever lyrics. Callum and Seedy’s long history of making music together comes through as they create varied and relaxing soundscapes through dubbed out echos and beautiful harmonies over reggae/blues based rhythms and melodies.

Kafka CollectiveKafka Collective are a Funk/Fusion band formed in 2015. Brought together by a passion for soulful grooves, interstellar hooks, and spontaneous creation, the trio draw inspiration from an array of styles, including funk, jazz, disco, and world music. In their own words, “we play funky music with our friends”.

Julian Temple BandJulian Temple Band is the eponymous touring band of Julian Temple; a singer/songwriter based in Dunedin, New Zealand. Julian has established himself across NZ, Australia and the U.S. as a sought after and perceptive songwriter, releasing and touring five studio albums over the last decade. His electrifying stage-show and the deep tradition of storytelling he imbues his work with, has catapulted the singer to new heights in recent years.

Iron MammothDunedin based manic rock ‘n’ roll trio Iron Mammoth cultivate an unhinged, hectic sound loaded with sharp catchy hooks and frantic momentum. Their performance is high energy and delivered with a wild intensity whilst their songs are spell-bindingly ear-catching.

Think Willy Wonka meets Tom Waits.

The Black Seeds‘One of the best live reggae acts on the planet’ – Clash Music

The Black Seeds have carved out their reputation on the back of multi-platinum selling albums, and a masterful live show that has been filling dance floors across the globe for over a decade.

While firmly based in the island grooves that inspired the birth of the band over a decade ago, The Black Seeds’ sound casts a wide net, layering funk, soul, Afrobeat, and other eclectic elements over their dub/reggae foundations. It’s “contemporary groove music with influences from soul, funk and reggae rhythms – and even rock on the new album,” explains guitarist/vocalist Barnaby Weir.

PRIZES

Grand Prize: Brewing the Official 2016 OUSA Dunedin Craft Beer & Food Festival Brew and a gorgeous trophy designed and crafted by Farra Engineering

2nd Place: Mangrove Jack’s Keg System (19 litre keg, regulator, hoses and connectors, beer tap)

3rd Place: Mangrove Jack’s Craft Series Microbrewery set

Category Prizes: A selection of Gladfield Malt, Craft Series Yeasts, Brewmaster Hop Extracts.

Home brewers, we know you’re a special breed. We salute your desire to brew your own and recreate the brews that you think are top notch. The cool thing about home brewing is that you don’t have to have a crazy set up to get started and be competitive. It’s about research and experimentation, as well as getting your mates together to try the brews you’ve created (as market research of course).

For this year's Home Brew Competition we’ve once again teamed up with the Dunedin Malt House, every home brewer’s one stop shop for the best advice, ingredients and equipment. They’ll be giving away prizes for the category winners as well as the second and third place entries.

The winner of last year’s homebrew competition was Brett Houliston, who has been an avid home brewer for close to ten years. Brett’s winning brew is a delicious bourbon oaked porter - full bodied and brimming with flavour after being aged on old bourbon barrel chips for a couple of months. As the victor of last year’s comp, Brett was given the chance to brew 200 litres of his concoction at Emersons Brewery, with the help of head brewer Jim Falconer. A massive thank you goes to Brett and the Emerson’s crew! Try it while you can!

Drink! This year we’ve got more than 240 beers, ciders, and wines at the festival to tempt and tantalise your tastebuds. Have a peruse at what’s on offer and make a plan! To last the whole day we highly recommend choosing taster-sized pours, having frequent water breaks, and getting food into you!

TIP: IBU means International Bittering Units and is the measurement of the bitterness of a beer.

We’ve found that as the day goes on, it’s easy to lose track of everything that wets your whistle - this year there’s a wee circle next to each beverage for you to help keep track. There are some examples of how you could use it to rate your beers at the top of the page. If you didn’t bring a pen, you can pick one up from Coat Check/Lost Property for just 50c. Easy!
