MAYHILL JUNIOR SCHOOL NEWSLETTER | ISSUE NO 5 | 13TH NOVEMBER

Dear Parents and Carers,

TONIGHT!

Remember, remember, the 13th November – Internet Safety briefings for Parents. 7.00 – 8.30pm at Mayhill

in the school hall. This is led by Paul Hay who delivers up-to-date briefings for parents across the country.

Staffing Update

We are sadly going to be saying farewell to some members of our team who have offered a huge amount to

the devlopment of Mayhill. Karina McCorry who helps run our school office will be moving on to new

challenges shortly before the end of term and Mrs Rowlands, our HLTA and support for 4CG will be leaving

Mayhill as her family are being posted over the Christmas break. Both will be very much missed and we are

hugely grateful for all of their good will, professionalism and effort over their time here. Rachel Rylance, who

shares the office role with Karina, will also be leaving the school due to her family being posted but not until

the end of February 2020 so we are now starting to seek two new staff to join our team.

If you’re interested, or know someone who might be, further information is available on our website here.

Remembrance

On Monday, the Mayhill choir beautifully supported our

Remembrance assembly with a rendition of Remember Me.

They do it so well! Our choir will be performing their songs at

the end of year curriculum exhibition on Thursday 19th

December after school, so please do come along and support

them!

A big well done also to James M and Eleanor D who read out

poems their classes had written last year – remembering back

to when they written them to celebrate 100 years of the RAF.

Amazing Fund Raising Efforts! News in! After all the money has been counted, the Mayhill Pentathlon raised a brilliant £920. Lauren M, Mia R, Emma T, Theo M, Braidon A and Mimi L amongst others rasied a huge amount so THANK YOU!

NSPCC Speak Out. Stay Safe. Programme

The NSPCC are in school tomorrow delivering their Speak out. Stay safe. Programme.

This is a nationwide programme for every primary-school-aged child in the UK and

Channel Islands. With the help of their friendly mascot Buddy, they will present an

assembly to the children in school as well as a workshop for Years 5 and 6 on 15th

November.

To raise money for NSPCC on Friday 15th November we will be doing the following:

Having a MUFTI Day - the children can come to school dressed in their own clothes but with contrasting socks. Suggested donation of £2.

We will be holding our own Great British Bake Off Cake Sale - we would like the children to get baking at home and create bakes based on the theme of ‘Healthy or Energizing Treats’. We ask that NO NUTS are used please. A Star Baker will be selected from each class. All the cakes and treats will be sold at break time. Suggest £1 for spending at the cake sale.

The children will also be taking part in the Big Morning Move with Joe Wicks, so please make sure they have their PE kits with them.

Understanding the Mayhill Habits

Critical Thinking

Curiosity

the desire and ability to ask good

questions

Reasoning

the ability to explain why and justify

a position with logical evidence

Open-mindedness

the ability to see and explore other

viewpoints and to be fallible and

change one’s mind

As we support our children to improve in the Mayhill Habits, it is important to agree a common understanding and

language behind it. By doing so, we can help the children to evaluate their own strengths and understanding when

we praise them for e.g. ‘critical thinking’. Within school, we then take this a step further by designing some of our

lessons in a way that facilitates learning in these areas. Our aim, over the next term or two, is to create a really

child-friendly way of helping them to self-assess themselves against these habits so that they know how to

improve further.

If you have any other ideas about how we can improve our school further, do please contact myself or through

your child’s class teacher.

Head Teacher
