SPEAKING: FAMILY MATTERS

DIALOGUE

1. Write out questions using the following words and then interview your partner about his/her family.

How big/family? How many brothers or sisters/have got? How old? Who/oldest/youngest/in the middle? Where/live? What/do? Married? How many children? How old? Any cousins/aunts/uncles? How often/see? Get on well with them? Who/closest to? How often/see/your relatives? Get along well with your brothers or sisters/in-laws? Family important in your country/to you? What/usually/do together?

USEFUL EXPRESSIONS

I’ve got one brother and no sisters. I have a large (small) family

I’m an only child. I have no brothers or sisters. There are five people in my family (there are five of us in my family): my two parents, two brothers and me.

Juan is the oldest (he’s my elder brother). Ana is the youngest (she’s my younger sister) and I’m in the middle.

My in-laws: my brother-in-law, my sister-in-law, my parents-in-law.

Juan is a brother of mine (a friend of mine, a relative of mine, etc)

My close relatives – My distant relatives.

I’m closest to my younger sister. I (don’t) get on well with all my relatives.

MONOLOGUE
