The Problem:Summer Learning Loss
For millions of disadvantaged children, summertime is a far cry from healthy intellectual stimulation. It’s a time of boredom. And for lower-income kids who struggle with reading, math and other subjects, summer inactivity causes the achievement gap to widen faster. Without the right blend of summer instructional support, most students risk losing so much ground that keeping up with their peers seems virtually impossible.
Bottom line? The negative impact of summer learning loss—especially for lower-income youth—is devastating and often irreversible.

The problem compounds over time and plays a huge role in overall achievement gaps.

The good news: Research shows that vulnerable students who participate in summer learning stay sharp, hit the ground running in the fall, and are far more likely to continue their education. In fact, a recent study concluded that 90% of summer learners graduate high school and eight out of ten go on to college.
At Catapult Learning, we’re squarely focused on eliminating summer learning loss. That’s why we created Learning Leap. It’s an innovative summer learning program that combines academic instruction, cultural enrichment activities, self-selected learning and more. Our objective? Give kids the intellectual stimulation they need—while keeping things fun in the bargain.
