TRIPS: OBSERVE. IMMERSE. ENGAGE.

The highlight of the programme is the opportunity for participants to learn from rural communities during a week-long field visit. Participants will see practical, technical and sustainable solutions. (such as solutions to water management, decentralised solid and liquid waste management, meeting a community’s energy needs, among others). In addition to this week-long field visit, the programme includes several local field excursions, to familiarise participants with urban challenges, including air pollution and urban mobility, river pollution and waste management. During the course you will write, edit and produce your own magazine based on the stories you encounter. The location of the field trip changes from year to year and problems affecting the local area will form the basis for the content of the magazine that will be produced with training by CSEs in-house journalists. Examples of what has been produced by previous years can be found at the following links:

VISAS

Participants are solely responsible for ensuring they have the correct visa to enter India. Previous participants have travelled on tourist visas, however requirements have recently changed. All details of visa requirements and applications can be found on the official Indian Visa Application Centre website http://in.vfsglobal.co.uk/. We strongly recommend applying as early as possible. All foreign nationals need a visa to enter India, the only exceptions being nationals of Nepal and Bhutan (Note: Nepalese nationals need a visa if entering India from China). All details of visa requirements and applications can be found on the official Indian Visa website: http://in.vfsglobal.co.uk/ please read all relevant sections of the website thoroughly. Those travelling from or through yellow fever countries must have a valid vaccination certificate. We can provide a letter of invitation if required. This is often not necessary but previously has been required for those travelling on a Pakistani passport and those applying for a non-tourist visa (such as an entry VISA). In this case we recommend you get in touch with us directly. The photo required for a visa is 2 inch x 2 inch (50mm x 50mm). Note that this is not standard passport size. These can be produced by the vending machine at the visa application centre and photo shops should also be able to produce them for you. Passport validity Your passport must have 2 blank pages for your visa and must be valid for a minimum of 180 days at the time of your visa application. Fees Visa fees once deposited cannot be refunded so it’s important to make sure your application is complete and correct before submitting it. Applicants can submit their visa applications either in person at the application centres or by post. Some application centres (Cardiff and Glasgow) do not have a passport collections service and will return passport by secured post. This requires the additional charge and processing time associated with postage of passport to the applicant. Processing times vary but can be significant, decide how you wish to apply now, and organise when you are going to apply accordingly. Leave enough time There are application centres in Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, London, Hayes and Cardiff References During your application you may be asked for Indian and UK based references for your application, we recommend using In the UK: Sam Ferrell, Engineers Without Borders UK, Great George Street, London, SW1P 3AA, UK, Tel: +44 (0)1223 305888 In Delhi: Sharmila Sinha, Centre for Science and Environment, 41 Tughlakabad Institutional Area, New Delhi-110062, India, Mobile: +919818482018
