When you are trying to invigorate an older initiative that has lost its momentum
Steps to a strategic plan

Vision & Mission
Ensuring the group shares a common vision of what kind of world it wants to work toward and how it will do so, with the project
SWOT Analysis
A review of your groups/projects Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats
Setting a plan timeline and goals
Select the goals you want to pursue along the chosen timeline
Capacity and Needs Assessment
Determine what gaps exits in your group’s capacity, both human and material resources
Determine objectives and bottom liners
Determine which objectives you need to plan to reach each goal and assign a bottom liner
Evaluation Have an evaluation mechanism to ensure the plan is being implemented and can be changed if need be

Vision statement should be Understood and shared by members of the
community Broad enough to allow a diverse variety of
local perspectives to be encompassed within them
Inspiring and uplifting to everyone involved in your effort
Easy to communicate – for example- they should be short enough to fit on a T-shirt

Objectives (how much of what will be accomplished)

Action Plan (what change will happen; who will do what by when to make it happen
The Plan refers to: Specific (community and system) changes
to be sought; and The specific action steps necessary to
bring about changes in all of the relevant sectors, or parts of the community

Action steps are developed for each component of the intervention or (community and system) changes to be sought. These include: Action step(s) : what will
happen Person(s) responsible : who will do what Date Completed : Timing of each action
step Resources required : resources and support
(both what is needed and available) Barriers or resistance, and plan to overcome them Collaborators : who else should know
about this action
