‘Outstanding Progress for All’

Home Bulletin 6th March 2020

Dear parents and carers Another busy week, during which the Corona virus has been frequently on our minds. I sent a Parent Mail on Wednesday which set out the precautions we are taking in school and the latest guidance to which we have access. The situation changes on a daily basis and we are facing circumstances that are unparalleled in my life-time. Please be assured that your children's safety and well being will always be paramount in our decision-making. MathsLive! A group of approximately 70 students will be attending a MathsLive! conference at Disneyland Paris this week-end. We wish all staff and participants a safe journey and hope they enjoy the experience of learning in a foreign country. There will be plenty of opportunities for students to practise their French as well as developing their mathematics skills. Battlefields Visit On Wednesday evening, the history department held two well-attended and informative meetings about the annual visit to the World War One battlefields at the end of March. These visits are exceptionally well-planned and students have a busy schedule ahead. It combines suitably sombre visits to many of the prominent sites of WW1 with fun activities like ten pin bowling and a trip to a chocolate shop! I am immensely grateful to the staff who will be giving up their time to accompany the 130 students going on the trip. Cycle safety Regrettably, we have received some complaints over the past week from local residents about students on bicycles not taking sufficient care and putting themselves and others in danger. If your child bikes to school, please remind them to cycle safely and to be respectful of others. Sixth Form update The contractors have made great progress this week in preparing the ground for the new coach park which will ease the flow of traffic considerably once it is in use. With best wishes Peter Whear Headteacher

At the end of the first half, the score was 0-4 and the match finished 0-6. Play improved during the second half following a technical team talk at half time. The team demonstrated good commitment. Well done! Y7 Boys’ Rugby Tournament 12 Y7 boys battled it out this week in tough conditions for their first outing as a team. The boys did superbly well and despite winning ‘only’ one of four games, they were all closely fought and the one win was against the eventual winners. The boys can be hugely proud of their achievement in their first tournament showing signs of things to come! Player of the tournament: Camren Scott (7OW).
