THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME November 8, 2020

Dear Brothers and Sisters, The end and the beginning of each liturgical year share the same spirit of expectation. During the Christian Year we go through and meditate on the mystery of Christ in his unity, with all the colors of strong times and special celebrations, which are like peaks in the journey of discipleship in pursuit of the Master. Biblical texts, with an emphasis on the Gospels, offer us the starting point and, in turn, the basis of this learning in an encounter with Jesus of Nazareth himself: Master and Lord; Brother, Redeemer and Guide of his people, which is the Church. With the eschatological parables, with which Jesus instructs the disciples on the eve of the Passion, we begin this Sunday the end of the liturgical year. To be prepared for the end of time, the first condition is Christian vigilance, because we do not know the day or the hour when the Lord will come at his second coming. The parable of the wise maidens encourages Christians to keep burning the light of faith and grace that they received at baptism (Matthew 25: 1-13). Jesus is the incarnation of divine Wisdom that was to be sought tirelessly, watching over it; Whoever seeks wisdom will find it (seeking wisdom is seeking God by desiring his gifts) and God will meet him and dwell in him. Waiting, as imminent, the second coming of Christ, Paul encourages the hope of the faithful of Thessalonica and consoles them in relation to the fate of the deceased. (I Thess. 4: 13-17) Our hope in the future life is the greatest comfort and, at the same time, spurs us to strive to live a holy life according to God. The life of the believer, the one redeemed by Christ, differs from those who only see the present world, in Hope, a necessary virtue to face and overcome the trials of this world and, living the anticipated joy of the Kingdom, overcome the trials and the persecutions, persevering in the Faith. The themes of "light", "perseverance" and "prudence" indicate to us the attitudes necessary to transform our ordinary lives into the lives of authentic disciples: vigilant, foresighted and hard-working; once we have valued our life in Christ with whom all good is possible, and without whom nothing good could be achieved. We obtain the difference through fidelity to the Spirit, poured out on us in Baptism: He is the Light that transforms our hope into a redemptive encounter and leads us to the Banquet of Eternal Life. —Father Joaquin

TRIGÉSIMO SEGUNDO DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO 8 de noviembre, 2020

Queridos hermanos: El final y el comienzo de cada año litúrgico comparten el mismo espíritu de expectación. Durante el Año Cristiano vamos recorriendo y meditando el misterio de Cristo en su unidad, con todo el colorido de los tiempos fuertes y de las celebraciones especiales, que son como cumbres en el recorrido del discipulado en pos del Maestro. Los textos bíblicos, con el acento en los evangelios, nos ofrecen el punto de partida y, a su vez, la base de ese aprendizaje en un encuentro con el propio Jesús de Nazaret: Maestro y Señor; Hermano, Redentor y Guía de su pueblo, que es la Iglesia. Con las parábolas escatológicas, con las que Jesús instruye a los discípulos en vísperas de la Pasión, comenzamos este domingo el final del Año litúrgico. Para estar preparados para el final de los tiempos, la primera condición es la vigilancia cristiana, porque no sabemos el día ni la hora en que vendrá el Señor en su segunda venida. La parábola de las doncellas prudentes anima a los cristianos a mantener encendida la luz de la fe y la gracia que recibieron en el bautismo (Mateo 25, 1-13). Jesús es la encarnación de la Sabiduría divina que había de ser buscada sin descanso, velando por ella; quien busca la sabiduría la encontrará (buscar la sabiduría, es buscar a Dios deseando sus dones) y Dios saldrá a su encuentro y morará en él. Esperando, como inminente, la segunda venida de Cristo, San Pablo alienta la esperanza de los fieles de Tesalónica y los consuela en relación a la suerte de los difuntos. (I Tes. 4, 13-17) Nuestra esperanza en la vida futura es el mayor consuelo y, a la vez, acicate para que nos esforcemos en vivir una vida santa según Dios. La vida del creyente, del redimido por Cristo, se diferencia de los que sólo ven el mundo presente, en la Esperanza, virtud necesaria para enfrentar y vencer las pruebas de este mundo y, viviendo la alegría anticipada del Reino, superar las pruebas y las persecuciones, perseverando en la Fe. Los temas de la “luz”, la “perseverancia” y la “prudencia” nos indican las actitudes necesarias para transformar nuestras vidas ordinarias en vidas de discípulos auténticos: Vigilantes, previsores y esforzados; una vez que hemos valorado nuestra vida en Cristo con quien todo lo bueno es posible, y sin quien nada bueno podríamos lograr. La diferencia la obtenemos por la fidelidad al Espíritu, derramado sobre nosotros en el Bautismo: El es la Luz que transforma nuestra esperanza en encuentro redentor y nos conduce al Banquete de la Vida Eterna. —Padre Joaquín

November 8, 2020 — Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time — Prayer of the Faithful Let us be ready for the coming of the Lord, bringing with us these prayers for all in need.

For the Church to proclaim the coming reign of God with renewed vigor, let us pray to the Lord. For our na on’s people and leaders to work together in unity and peace a er this week’s elec on, let us pray to the Lord. For all religious sisters, who have shown God’s love in many ways to their neighbors in our country and throughout the world, let us pray to the Lord. For wise prepara ons in our community to protect the homeless from the coming winter season, let us pray to the Lord. For all those who are sick, for all who suffer from COVID-19, and for all those who have passed from this life into the eternal presence of the Lord, and for those who mourn them in this life, let us pray to the Lord. For all the prayers that we hold in the silence of our hearts; for all our inten ons spoken and unspoken, let us pray to the Lord.

Our souls thirst for you O Lord. Be not far, we pray. Listen to these our prayers, gran ng them according to your will, through Jesus Christ your Son who is our Lord for ever and ever.

8 de noviembre de 2020 — Trigésimo Segundo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario — Oración de los Fieles Estemos preparados para la venida del Señor y llevemos con nosotros estas súplicas por todos los necesitados.

Por la Iglesia, para que proclame la venida del Reino de Dios con un vigor renovado, roguemos al Señor. Para que el pueblo y los líderes de nuestra nación trabajen juntos en unidad y paz después de las elecciones de esta semana, roguemos al Señor. Por todas las hermanas religiosas que de tantas maneras han demostrado a su prójimo el amor de Dios en nuestros propios países y a través del mundo entero, roguemos al Señor. Por nuestra comunidad, para que haga preparaciones sabias a fin de proteger de las inclemencias del invierno que se avecina a los que carecen de vivienda, roguemos al Señor. Para todos los que están enfermos, para todos los que sufren de COVID-19, y para todos los que han pasado de esta vida a la vida de la eterna presencia del Señor y por todos los que los extrañan en esta vida, roguemos al Señor. Elevemos en silencio las oraciones que guarda nuestro corazón, tanto las que hemos expresado verbalmente como aquellas que han quedado en nuestro interior, roguemos al Señor.

Señor Dios nuestro, nuestras almas enen sed de . Te pedimos que no te distancies de nosotros. Escucha estas súplicas nuestras, y concédenos lo que pedimos según tu santa voluntad. Por Jesucristo, Hijo tuyo y Señor nuestro, que es Dios por los siglos de los siglos.
