As for me, having been called by Jesus as a priest is a gift like no other. I couldn't ask for a better one. I am sure I have already shared this before, but I just want to share this with you again. I composed this poem as a reflection on my vocation, during my 30 - day Ignatian Retreat in 2009. The title is JESUS THANKS... Childhood cravings I have obtained Pride and honour, I have gained Yet only emptiness now remained Because to eternal life, they re not destined. I looked for something else somewhere But I could not find there either I turned to God and he surprised me For he quenched my thirst and clothed me fully. Jesus came and took my hand He showed to me the everlasting land Where earthly pride, honour and riches are absent Only love, love and love are present. Jesus brought me back to life He showed me the way to live a fully human life He laid down his life for me Asking me to follow Him in this way So I went to find the way to die But he said, only love the others and yourself die. At first I was confused what he really meant Because dying for somebody is not an accomplishment But then when He showed to me his love I realized, it is dying for love, makes it super and above. Thank you Jesus for calling me today Thank you for training me to serve you freely, Thank you Jesus for the love you ve shown Because of this, I learned to share my own. Let us cross the threshold of this tranquil home, with its family sitting around the festive table. At the centre we see the father and mother, a couple with their personal story of love. They embody the primordial divine plan clearly spoken of by Christ himself: Have you not read that he who made them from the beginning made them male and female?(Mt 19:4). We hear an echo of the command found in the Book of Genesis: Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife, and they shall become one flesh (Gen 2:24)”. 10. The majestic early chapters of Genesis present the human couple in its deepest reality. Those first pages of the Bible make a number of very clear statements. The first, which Jesus paraphrases, says that God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them(1:27). It is striking that the image of Godhere refers to the couple, male and female”. Does this mean that sex is a property of God himself, or that God has a divine female companion, as some ancient religions held? Naturally, the answer is no. We know how clearly the Bible rejects as idolatrous such beliefs, found among the Canaanites of the Holy Land. Gods transcendence is preserved, yet inasmuch as he is also the Creator, the fruitfulness of the human couple is a living and effective image, a visible sign of his creative act. 11. The couple that loves and begets life is a true, living icon – not an idol like those of stone or gold prohibited by the Decalogue – capable of revealing God the Creator and Saviour. For this reason, fruitful love becomes a symbol of Gods inner life (cf. Gen 1:28; 9:7; 17:2-5, 16; 28:3; 35:11; 48:3-4). This is why the Genesis account, following the priestly tradition”, is interwoven with various genealogical accounts (cf. 4:17-22, 25-26; 5; 10; 11:10-32; 25:1-4, 12-17, 19-26; 36). The ability of human couples to beget life is the path along which the history of salvation progresses. Seen this way, the couples fruitful relationship becomes an image for understanding and describing the mystery of God himself, for in the Christian vision of the Trinity, God is contemplated as Father, Son and Spirit of love. The triune God is a communion of love, and the family is its living reflection. Saint John Paul II shed light on this when he said, Our God in his deepest mystery is not solitude, but a family, for he has within himself fatherhood, sonship and the essence of the family, which is love. That love, in the divine family, is the Holy Spirit”.6 The family is thus not unrelated to Gods very being.7 This Trinitarian dimension finds expression in the theology of Saint Paul, who relates the couple to the mysteryof the union of Christ and the Church (cf. Eph 5:21-33). Next Weeks Readings Isaiah 66:10 - 14 Galatians 6:14 - 18 Luke 10:1 - 12, 17 - 20 Gospel Acclamation Alleluia, alleluia! Fr Junjun Corner Our Gospel today reminds us of our particular way of Christian discipleship, our own personal and unique take of Jesus’ invitation to follow him. As for me, having been called by Jesus as a priest is a gift like no other. I couldn't ask for a better one. I am sure I have already shared this before, but I just want to share this with you again. I composed this poem as a reflection on my vocation, during my 30-day Ignatian Retreat in 2009. The title is JESUS THANKS... Childhood cravings I have obtained Pride and honour, I have gained Yet only emptiness now remained Because to eternal life, they’re not destined. to Bishops, Priests and Deacons, Consecrated Persons, Christian Married Couples, and all the Lay Faithful--- On Love in the Family

Continued from last week You and your wife 9. Let us cross the threshold of this tranquil home, with its family sitting around the festive table. At the centre we see the father and mother, a couple with their personal story of love. They embody the pr imordial divine plan clearly spoken of by Christ himself: “Have you not read that he who made them from the beginning made them male and female?” (Mt 19:4). We hear an echo of the command found in the Book of Genesis: “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife, and they shall become one flesh (Gen 2:24)”. 10. The first, which Jesus paraphrases, says that “God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them” (1:27). It is striking that the “image of God” here refers to the couple, “male and female”. Does this mean that sex is a property of God himself, or that God has a divine female companion, as some ancient religions held? Naturally, the answer is no. We know how clearly the Bible rejects as idolatrous such beliefs, found among the Canaanites of the Holy Land. God’s transcendence is preserved, yet inasmuch as he is also the Creator, the fruitfulness of the human couple is a living and effective “image”, a visible sign of his creative act. 11. Prayer f or Asylum Seekers and Refugees

Wise and compassionate God, help us to bear the burdens

refugees and asylum-seekers carry and not simply seek to shift the burden onto others.

Call our leaders to justice, generosity and compassion. Help them create and implement strategies that are fair

and just and treat refugees and asylum-seekers with dignity and care.

O God, our comforter, we ask you to comfort the broken-hearted and protect the vulnerable. We pray for

those who live in fear of detention and removal, for those who are in detention at this time and for those who

face removal to an uncertain future. We ask you to assure them of your great love, surround them with your

presence and fill them with your peace. God bless our eyes so that we will recognise injustices. God bless our ears so that we will hear the cry of the stranger. God bless our mouths so that we will speak

words of welcome to newcomers. God bless our shoulders so we will be able to bear the weight of

struggling for justice. God bless our hands so that we can work together with all people to establish peace.

Amen.

As we gather to worship, we acknowledge the Traditional owners and custodians of this land- the Jaara Country we are standing on- the Jaara people of the Dja Dja Wurrung community and their forebears who have been custodians of this land for centuries.

ST LIBORIUS SCHOOL

Dear Parents and Friends of St Liborius, We are coming the conclusion of what has been a very busy term. The children have participated in many extra curricular activities such as cross country, Yr 5/6 camp, soccer, Yr 6 Leadership Day, Gym and undertaken dental screening on site. Building Progress There will continue to be some disruption this week with steel works arriving. At times the driveway will be sectioned off to allow for access of cranes. Over the holidays we should see the framing work for building 2 erected and hopefully the roofing will be installed as well. Library For the past 3 years we have been working towards bringing the library closer to the students and providing greater access for students, families and classes. EXPO It was fantastic to see so many visitors come along and share in the Yr 3-6 Learning Expo yesterday. With the focus on Health, the children articulated how they had linked their interest to the key learning areas and presented their research around this. Well done to everyone. Work Experience Students Thank you to Sharnie McGregor & Kaylee Gibbons from Eaglehawk Secondary College for their assistance last week. We wish you both all the very best with your future studies & careers. Frank Dullard, Principal

MARIST COLLEGE

Dear Parents, Learning alive Yesterday our Year 7 students had their expo for their simple machine designs. It was the end of a wonderful project in ACP1 and it was a fabulous display of great ideas and learning. Congratulations to all involved. Refugee Week This week we have been called to focus on the plight of refugees across our world. Of course these millions of people should be at the forefront of our mind all year. Building updates We received news this week that we have been successful in obtaining a grant to develop our learning spaces for our 2017 Foundation students. The Sandhurst Catholic Education Office has awarded us $300 000. This will enable us to close in the current decking area between the portables and the open up the rooms in to a large dynamic learning space. Mental health initiative makes finding help easier in Bendigo and Loddon On Tuesday 14 June students Brehana Danger, Felicity Harrip, Faith Christie and Isabella Wynveen went to the QEO to be part of a launch of ‘mental health matters to us all.’ 2017 staffing Tomorrow we will be advertising for Educators to join us from the beginning of next year. WHAT’S ON IN OUR SCHOOLS

WORSHIP REPORT The PPC recently requested a report which we refer to as the Worship report; regarding various people within the parish assisting Fr Junjun to administer to his flock as he sees fit. We will be commenting on each of these groups over the next few weeks, informing you of the activities of each group and where we may be able to assist them. The first report this week is on the Liturgy Group. Consisting of approx. 5 members (of which Elizabeth McDermott is one) they meet with Fr Junjun once a month. Each meeting commences with a prayer of which individuals take turns in preparing. Discussions occur regarding upcoming Liturgy events, such as Easter, Advent, Christmas, or any other Parish liturgy requirements. The main aim is to invite more parishioners to join the group, if not your assistance would be greatly appreciated if required to fulfil our duties. The second report involves the Lectors. Kathy Taylor has been one of the Lectors for several years. Part of her preparation is to go over the mass readings the day before, ensuring she is comfortable with the readings of the day. Kathy is pleased to be able to proclaim God’s word to the congregation and hopes that she reads well and is easily understood though sometimes challenged by difficult words to pronounce. She encourages more parishioners to be involved in proclaiming the gospel to all in attendance.

PRAY AS YOU SEW. This very simple technique allows you to pray for a person and as you pray you create a small token. This is placed in a card which can then be sent to the recipient. It is amazing how much prayer can be packed in a small square of sewing. Where: Library Learning Centre 120 Hargreaves street Bendigo Please use the main flight of stairs accessed from the McCrae St side of the building. When: TUESDAY 12th JULY at 1 – 3pm This is a free event but please RSVP for catering purposes. Phone: 54426108 Email: [email protected]

WINTER WOOLIES. If you are a knitting/crocheting enthusiast please join us with whatever project you have on the go. This is a great opportunity to share the knitting experience, make new friends and be inspired by the creativity of others. It is also a chance to dedicate some time to getting UFOs completed. Where: Library Learning Centre 120 Hargreaves street Bendigo Please use the main flight of stairs accessed from the McCrae St side of the building. When: Fortnightly starting WEDNESDAY 13th of JULY at 1 – 3pm. Afternoon tea provided. No cost involved. Phone: 54426108 Email: [email protected]

ROSTERS

Life’s like that…Get Thee Behind Me A little boy always went next door to play even though his mom had warned him

against doing so. This worried his mom so badly that she asked him why he was so disobedient. He replied that Satan tempted him so bad and he did not know what to do. His mom then advised him to say 'get behind me Satan' whenever he was

tempted. She then built a fence around the house. This worked for a week, then one sunny afternoon his mom looked out the window and there was her son playing on the neighbor’s lawn having cut a hole in the fence. Jeremiah", she yelled, "come here!" She then said "did I not tell you to say 'get behind me Satan' whenever he

tempted you?" "Yes", the boy replied, "I said, 'get behind me Satan', then he went behind me and pushed me through the hole in the fence."
