Prayers for the Church Following the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, please pray for Presiding Bishop Michael Curry and the bishops, priests, deacons, religious, and laity of The Episcopal Church. Anglican worship was first celebrated in North America on the coast near San Francisco, by Sir Francis Drake’s chaplain, in 1579. The first regular worship began in Jamestown, Virginia, in 1607. English mission societies (the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in particular) supported the early work under the direction of the Bishop of London, who never visited the American colonies. While many of the leaders of the American Revolution were themselves Anglican (including George Washington), that revolution challenged the ongoing existence of Anglicanism in the new United States of America, as many clergy departed for Canada or other parts of the British Empire. Lay leaders were responsible for continuing the work of parish churches and recruiting clergy. The first bishop for the new Episcopal Church was consecrated by the Scottish Episcopal Church in 1784, with two other bishops consecrated by the Church of England after changes in English law. At that point, The Episcopal Church became fully autonomous and soon began to send missionaries to other parts of the Americas and beyond. Today a quarter of the Anglican Communion’s provinces derive at least in part from that missionary work. The Episcopal Church today includes 100 dioceses in the United States, and 12 additional dioceses or jurisdictions in 15 nations in Asia, the Pacific, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe. Please pray especially for the guidance and inspiration of the Holy Spirit on The Episcopal Church.Following the Diocesan Cycle of Prayer, please pray for Fr. Mike Kraynak, Fr. Mark Scotton, Fr. Dean Cole, Mother Kathleen Rankin, Mother Andrea Orchard, Deacons Beverly Scipio, Tom Hare, Rachel Hare, and Jane Roberts and the people of St. Luke’s, Akron, Ohio.Following the Parish Cycle of Prayer, please pray for Elaine Dawson; Kavitha Kainz; the 2nd and 3rd Grade Godly Play class; and for the Facilities Team. Please also pray for homemakers: Jesus, as your mother Mary raised her family and took care of the domestic tasks, please give homemakers the assurance that they too are doing your will.

Women’s Bible study group begins new study Sept. 20The women’s Tuesday morning Bible study group will begin its next study on Sept. 20, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The group meets the first and third Tuesdays of the month. The next study will be “The Best Yes: Making Wise Decisions in the Midst of Endless Demands,” by Lysa Terkeurst. This six-week study will finish on Dec. 6, and then the group will take a break and meet again after New Year’s with another six-week study. All women of the parish are welcome!

Brotherhood of St. Andrew fall term begins Sept. 20 The Brotherhood of St. Andrew will resume its regular meetings on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the Parish House at 7:30 pm. They are currently engaged in a study of Catholicism, which is more of a study of the basic tentants of the faith universal. Since the lessons are self-contained, all newcomers would be able to jump right in, so if you’ve ever wondered what the Brotherhood meetings are like, this is a good opportunity to find out. They make every effort to conclude by 9 p.m.Regular meetings are on the first and third Tuesday of each month. They hope to see you all there! For more information, please contact Ed Summers at 614-371-1649.

Prayer for our country at the Courthouse Oct. 8As a result of the prayer meeting that was held in June at the Delaware County Courthouse, St. Andrew’s Anglican Church will again conduct a prayer meeting on the steps of the Courthouse on Saturday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m. The purpose of the meeting is to pray for the stability of the nation following the outcome of the Nov. 8 election. All parish members are encouraged to attend this opportunity to pray for the welfare of our country. For further information, please contact Fr. Wil Verhoff, 740-602-8810.

Encouragement for your prayer time with GodThere’s nothing mediocre or normal about God. His power is beyond comprehension. His beauty is beyond description. His love is beyond measure. The same God who created the universe and formed the stars desires a relationship with you. “Have you not known? Have you not heard, that the everlasting God, the

Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, does not faint, nor is He weary? His understanding is inscrutable. … but those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:28, 31). — From the St. Andrew’s Prayer Ministries Team

Congratulations to Jane Anosike on passing PANCE boardsCongratulations to St. Andrew’s parishioner Jane Anosike, who recently passed the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam (PANCE) to become a board-certified physician assistant. Jane shared her news in an email to Fr. Ron and Judy Baird, in which she said, “I am so overjoyed to share the good news with you and the church family that I have successfully passed my PANCE boards! I can now finally say that I am a certified Physician Assistant! “This has been such a long journey and I can only be so thankful to our Almighty Father for all that He has done. I would also like to extend my many thanks for the love and support that I have received from our church family! It is such a warm and beautiful feeling to know people that care for other’s well-being and success.“Though this is only the beginning to a new and challenging path to my never-ending journey, I am so grateful and ecstatic, and thought that I would share this exciting news with you!”
