Foreword from Dr John Collier
Dear members of the St Andrew’s Cathedral School Community,
In these days of rapid change in society, and therefore in schools, it is more important than ever to be purposeful in what we do. In this way, we can embrace developments which we believe will be beneficial for our students. This is about making choices, and deciding which options to pursue and which to ignore, at least for the time being; which to relegate to a lower priority, and which to discard entirely.
Every school is different.
We need to determine our
distinctives, and enhance
them. This Strategic Plan
attempts to do just that.
It has been 18 months in
development, including
broad consultation: with
parents through the P and F
and Year group breakfasts,
with staff, School Council
and student representatives.
For the plan to be
meaningful, it needs to be
a living document, which
‘breathes’ SACS, which is
organic to what we do and
which will be the reference
point for decisions. When
allocating resources, the
pre-eminent question
will be ‘is it in the plan?’.
I hope you will agree that
this plan captures our ‘DNA’.
This is why it is based on
our mantra ‘Heart, Mind,
Life’, which is an apt
reflection of feedback from
our community about
SACS’ comprehensive
approach, which you all
value so highly.
It is not essential for
everyone to be equally
passionate about every
aspect of the plan. As a
highly inclusive school,
SACS actually values
diversity very strongly,
and prizes the fact that
people can find that,
within an overall shared
purpose, total alignment
is not essential.
Thank you especially
to Ms Alison Walburn,
our Director of Marketing
and Strategy, who has
had carriage of the plan’s
development, and has
worked so assiduously
in what has been a very
thorough and lengthy
process.
I hope you find the
Strategic Plan a helpful
overview of the school’s
aspirations for its next
stage of serving young
people and their parents.
Yours faithfully,
Dr John Collier

SACS - Strategic Plan 2016-2018 1
Message from Rev Dr Colin Bale
In the 130th anniversary year of the founding of St Andrew’s Cathedral School it gives me great pleasure to commend the School’s Strategic Plan for 2016-2018. It builds on what was achieved under the previous plan and provides the framework that will inform and guide the school’s programme and services over the next three years.
Its key terms – Connected,
Engaged, Creative and
Sustainable – indicate
the dynamic, thoughtful
and relational features
of SACS, which I believe
accurately represent
who we are as a school.
The School Council has
had an important role in
the development of the
Strategic Plan, ensuring
that what is proposed is in
line with our school’s vision
and mission statements
and contributes to their
achievement. The ongoing
role for Council is to monitor
the implementation of the
plan and to ensure that
sufficient resources are
provided for its successful
enactment.
As our School motto via crucis via lucis (the way of
the cross, the way of light)
indicates, we continue with
the purpose for which the
School was established
and which remains the
wonderful truth that I hope
every one in our School
comes to appreciate
and know.
I am confident that in our
130th year the Strategic
Plan for 2016-2018
continues the great work
of St Andrew’s Cathedral
School as a place of
learning where the saving
knowledge of God through
the Lord Jesus Christ is
the sure basis for all that
we say, plan and do.
Yours faithfully,
Rev Dr Colin Bale
