ST. AGNES CATHOLIC CHURCH — Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord– April 1, 2018

Page 2

Preparing for Next Week’s Worship

2nd Sunday of Easter

He is Risen! "#$%#'()*+ -9 C%:)"# N**+:+ (!"!#$%"), from Together We Share,

Grow and Rejoice! Scripture – “Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for he has been raised, as he said.” Matthew 28:5-6.

Reflection - Resucito! He is risen! With songs of joy, the Alleluia and Gloria return to our lips. Recalling Gabriel’s annunciation of Jesus’ birth, the angels appears to Mary of Magdala with the message, “Do not be afraid.” The women are sent out to announce the good news, sent with a promise that the risen Lord will be seen in Galilee. As Megan McKenna writes, “Go! Go back to your homes and work. Go back to your families and relatives and friends and neighbors and enemies. Seek out the poor, and those who search for God and go looking with them. That’s where he was before. That’s where he is now.” We, the Disciples of Jesus, in Baptism have been entrusted with a Divine Mission, a Divine Vocation to bring other people to Jesus. Jesus offers love, mercy, reconciliation, joy, hope and purpose. Our joy is a sign of our faith and we rejoice that our risen Lord is not far from us. We are called to receive our Risen Savior every Sunday in the Eucharist as every Sunday is a celebration of the Resurrection, the promise of our resurrection. What a gift to be cherished. What more could God do for us? Meditation - Just as you accompanied Jesus through his passion, now imagine yourselves at the resurrection. Choose one gospel account of the resurrection. As you reflect upon it, imagine you are there. What do you see, hear, touch? How do you feel? Talk with Jesus about what it is like for you to be a witness to the resurrection. Easter Action - Sing joyfully at Mass. Be hopeful and filled with Good News for one another! ~ Fr. Nate P.S. – Reminder: The Parish Office is open Monday.

Should we be a little easier on Thomas? The last few days have been a whirlwind. On Thursday, a Passover celebration went horribly awry as Jesus was betrayed and taken into custody for unstated crimes. Less than 24 hours later, the simple arrest has turned into a death sentence to be carried out that very afternoon. Most of the disciples fled, including Thomas. He would have heard of the events of Good Friday secondhand, in shock over the death of his Lord and Master. Then Sunday morning arrives with joy from a few disciples-Jesus is risen! But there is no persistent sight of him, only Mary Magdalene's quick moment in the garden and an empty tomb. Another day passes. The Apostles are gathered that Monday night, but Thomas is absent. He returns to a jubilant report of the risen Lord. Again, Thomas has seen nothing. The experience must have been surreal. Did Jesus really appear raised from the dead? Did he really suffer and die? Has all of this been some strange hoax? Desperate for an answer, Thomas insists, "Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nail marks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe." After his resurrection, Jesus' body--mangled and bloody from the crucifixion--is restored. Did it need the scars? A perfected body would have taught us one lesson: everything is renewed as it once was, the past erased. Jesus chooses another lesson, however. He retains his scars that we might know him. In the whirlwind of our lives, we make our own mistakes, our own betrayals and compromises. In the resurrected Jesus, we see a God who does not forget his own sorrow. We are invited to meet him--wound for wound--and place our hand on his own nail-scarred palm, the eternal sign of his everlasting mercy.

Son Rise

Lord, open up eyes and hearts, too.

So others may today, come to know You.

Open up minds, let Your love sink in

So others may today, be forgiven of their sin.

Open up ears, let them really hear

The reason Your Father even sent You here.

Open up souls to Your eternal Grace.

So others may today, Your life in theirs embrace.

Father, open up souls, hearts, and eyes

So others may today, see Your glorious Son rise!

Kindergarten Roundup We are reaching out to all families who have a child, or know of a child, who will be entering kindergarten in the Fall. The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd process, that we now use, begins introductory lessons for sacramental preparation in Level 1 for 3, 4 & 5 year olds. Level 2 is for 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders and includes the reception of sacraments for those who are ready. For children to be ready for sacraments they will need to complete at least one year of the Level 1 process. Please watch for registration in the summer and feel free to contact Iris Winiarski or myself if you have questions.

Expecting a baby??? Have a baby???

Our next sessions for baptism preparation are on April 12 and 19, 2018. If you desire to have your child baptized, both parents must attend these sessions. Baptism will be scheduled once commitment to the classes is done. We have a new baptism process so,

even if you have taken classes in the past, you still need to go through this process, called Belonging. We desire to assist parents with understanding that belonging and participating in a parish community is the best way to fulfill the commitment you make to raise your child in the faith of the Church. We only offer these session five times a year so take them early if you can.

their understanding of the Gift of the Resurrection.

Who Are Those Men Called Knights? And, what do we do? The Knights are a fraternal organization whose original purpose was to take care of widows and orphans. This was the seed for the Knights insurance program. The evolution that followed was profound. We have become one of the largest charitable organizations in the world. Last year, our council donated $9,406 to charity and over $6,000 to St. Agnes for badly needed repairs and replacements. Our Knights donated just over 8.000 service hours last year. Think of it, that’s about equal to 4 men working full time @ 40hrs/week. Worldwide, the Knights donated over $177 million and 75 million service hours. We can’t do this alone. Our council numbers are declining. Mostly due to those called home to the Lord and transfers of those who moved away. We are in serious need of new members. Our work is not that difficult and it’s certainly rewarding. Our dues are only $33 per year but that does not pay the bills. Our fundraisers help us to continue our work for the Lord, our parish, our community, and most important; the needy. So, I ask of you…...will you please help us? Please consider joining our council. See Brother John Backhuus, our membership director for more information on what we do and how you can join us. If you are available to help with yard maintenance this year, please see me or give me a call at the number at the very bottom. Also, coming soon is our spring cleanup on April 21st. This is a great time to involve the whole family, so bring them along!!!!
