Please take some time on this day to be in an attitude of prayer. Prayer is an important part of our daily lives. For Jesus prayer was not an “if” thing, it was a “when” thing. If Jesus needed prayer, how much more do we need prayer? In Mark 1:35, we see that Jesus made prayer his first order of the day. In Luke 6:12, we know that at times, Jesus prayed through the night. In Luke 6:13, we know that Jesus prayed before he picked his disciples. When we read Matthew 26:36 we know that Jesus prayed before he faced death on the cross. I always begin my prayers of the day with adoration and praise to the Lord who has brought me through another night and has awakened me to a new day. God daily provides for my needs. I know that without God I have nothing in my life. Jesus is the source of all that I need. When I awaken to a new day, I am sometimes overwhelmed with the wickedness in the world. I just have to remember that God is stronger than all of it and that the Spirit that lives within me will help me to rise above it. For me, prayer is like a compass. Prayer is a tool that God uses to order my life, adjust my course, and prepare me to overcome the storms of life that threaten me. Without God’s help each day, I run the risk of going adrift and being at the mercy of a turbulent world. If you haven’t been praying on a regular basis, here are a few suggestions to get started: Find a quiet time during the day for just you and God. Start with Christian music or read some of the psalms for about five minutes. Focus on God. Shut the music off or let it go softly in the background as you begin to pray for the nation and its leaders, our state, our town, and your pastor and our church leaders. Take some time to pray for those on the prayer list, the Sunday school that we hope to get underway, our youth in our church and community, our church leaders and for the community and county in which we live. Let the Spirit move you as you pray. You’ll be amazed what the Lord put before you to lift up to him. Have a blessed month and pray that we can be together soon. Dear Family and Friends:

This month we will be celebrating the National

Day of Prayer on May 7th at 12 noon. Please

stop and pray at noon wherever you maybe.

This is a time when Christians all across our

country stop, open their hearts and pray to

God. Please take some time on this day to be

in an attitude of prayer. On May 7th we will be

praying for military men and women, covid-19

pandemic and its effects on all of us, family

members, friends, governments, our country

and its leaders as well as other countries

around the world and their leaders. Prayer is

an important part of our daily lives. For Jesus

prayer was not an “if” thing, it was a “when”

thing. If Jesus needed prayer, how much more

do we need prayer? In Mark 1:35, we see that

Jesus made prayer his first order of the day. In

Luke 6:12, we know that at times, Jesus prayed

through the night. In Luke 6:13, we know that

Jesus prayed before he picked his disciples.

When we read Matthew 26:36 we know that

Jesus prayed before he faced death on the

cross. I always begin my prayers of the day

with adoration and praise to the Lord who has

brought me through another night and has

awakened me to a new day. God daily provides

for my needs. I know that without God I have

nothing in my life. Jesus is the source of all that

I need. When I awaken to a new day, I am

sometimes overwhelmed with the wickedness

in the world. I just have to remember that God

is stronger than all of it and that the Spirit that

lives within me will help me to rise above it.

For me, prayer is like a compass. Prayer is a

tool that God uses to order my life, adjust my

course, and prepare me to overcome the

storms of life that threaten me. Without God’s

help each day, I run the risk of going adrift and

being at the mercy of a turbulent world. If you

haven’t been praying on a regular basis, here

are a few suggestions to get started: Find a

quiet time during the day for just you and God.

school that we hope to get underway, our

During spring and in the month of May we give thanks for our Moms. We have to admit that motherhood is a tough job without much training. It is a job that requires commitment to her family. A few mothers are mentioned in the Bible. We have heard about Hannah’s sacrificial love for Samuel. We remember Mary and Elizabeth’s unquestioning faith in their sons and we can’t forget Ruth’s love for her son, Obed. If you will think back to Exodus 2, you will remember Moses’ mother. Her name is not mentioned, but she is the epitome of a loving, caring, and protective mother. She protected Moses, took care of him, worked for him and loved him. This month, I would encourage you to answer a few questions about your special Mom. 1. In what ways does your mom care for you? 2. How is this like the ways God cares for you? 3. How can caring for others draw us closer to God and to our families? 4. What can you do this month to thank Mom or someone else for caring for you? This May, Pentecost Sunday is on the 31st. We find the story of Pentecost in the book of Acts, chapter 2. The disciples were gathered for the festival of Shavuot (Pentecost) which is a Jewish festival. Jesus and the first disciples were from Jewish families and practiced Jewish customs and celebrated Jewish festivals. Christianity has its roots in Judaism, and it is true that Pentecost was a Jewish festival. However, when the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples that day, the Christian church was born and the festival took on a whole new meaning. Pentecost is the birthday of the church. It is a celebration of the Holy Spirit empowering the disciples to carry on the work of Jesus. It is also a reminder to us each year that we too are given the power to carry the message of the kingdom of God to others. Enjoy the month of May! Pastor Jane
