ABOUT SONOMA COUNTY TOURISM

Sonoma County Tourism (also known as SCT) is the Official Destination Marketing Organization dedicated to promoting Sonoma County as an overnight destination.

SCT is a private, non-profit 501(c)6 organization, staffed by professionals in the fields of sales, marketing, communications and administration. It is governed by a volunteer board of directors with input from committees, stakeholders and the general public.

The core values of SCT are accountability, innovation, leadership, transparency and diversity. These values drive strategic planning and affect decisions for sales, marketing and operations.

The majority of SCT’s funding comes from a two percent assessment on applicable lodging rooms within the Sonoma County Tourism Business Improvement Area. SCT also receives funds from the County of Sonoma’s Advertising Award Program.

Tourism in Sonoma County has a direct economic impact of more than $1.55 billion annually and represents close to 19,000 local jobs. Taxes collected from visitors mean $97.3 million in government revenues, and those funds are used for general funds for government, regional parks, arts and cultural organizations, affordable housing and public safety.

SCT’s efforts are divided into three main segments of travelers: individual leisure travelers, meetings and groups, and tour and travel. Combining these three segments provides a “balanced portfolio” of potential travelers, so SCT can bring more “heads in beds” throughout the year.

The SCT staff and hospitality community thank you for considering Sonoma County as a destination for your future meeting and group program, and for visiting our beautiful destination.

Unique meeting and event venues include wineries, wine caves, elegant estates, retreat venues and an African wildlife preserve.

Give your group an opportunity to relax and enjoy engaging activities that offer excellent networking and team-bonding experiences that will create lasting memories. You’ll be delighted by the variety of options available for your free and scheduled activity time.

Off-site activities include hiking and ziplining through redwood forests, teeing off at one of our 22 stunning golf courses, cycling through scenic vineyards, horseback riding, driving on a thrilling road course, hot air ballooning, embarking on a Pacific Ocean fishing excursion, kayaking and canoeing on the Russian River, exploring life on the farm with Farm Trails, and expanding your palate with culinary tours and chef-led activities.

Sonoma County offers some of the world’s most award-winning wineries. Challenge your team in such activities as blind tastings, sensory development classes, blending experiences and artisanal food pairings. Sonoma County is also known for its abundance of quality beer and hard cider producers, as well as artisanal spirit distilleries.

Local restaurants offer extensive wine lists, incorporate farm-to-table ingredients and offer wine-pairing dinners. This gives groups that are short on time a fabulous experience that incorporates the best of Wine Country cuisine and, of course, wine.

We invite you to book your meetings and group programs in Sonoma County. Our hotels boast award-winning service and offer excellent value in northern California. Group properties are located in thriving suburban and charming small-town communities beside vineyard-filled meandering roads and alongside the rugged Pacific Coast.

We look forward to assisting you in your planning process.

Warm regards, Sonoma County Tourism Sales Team
