MOTHER OF MOTHERS PRAYER

Mother of Mothers, holy Queen, chosen before all women to be the Mother of the Son of God. Mary, my Mother, who

in your Maternity have so sanctified the state of holy motherhood, imploringly I

come to you, humbly I beseech you, confidently I trust in you. I know that you can by your all-powerful intercession help me in my need. In you I take refuge, dear Virgin. Poor and needy, I place my hope

entirely in you: I relinquish all, confidently in your hands. Betray not my

humble trust, but hear my petitions and come to my aid, dear Mother of Mothers.

Amen

Mother of Mothers, pray for us.

Do you still have your Rice Bowl?

The CRS (Catholic Relief Service) Rice Bowl has become a tradition at Mater Christi Church and in our community. CRS Rice Bowl is an annual Lenten program created for parishes, schools, and families to engage in global solidarity as well as raising funds for CRS’ international work. It is a simple tool for almsgivings and as a way to connect with the worldwide Church as we pray for people all over the world. Many of you have been participating in this tradition during this past Lent, but because of the current stay at home condition, you may still have these Rice Bowls in your home and have been unable to drop them off at the church or rectory. It is not too late to put your rice bowl donations into the hands of those that will benefit from it! Our very own parishioner and lead counter, Stephen Piszczor, will be available at the doorsteps of the Mater Christi rectory for the next two Saturdays, May 23rd, and May 30th from 5:00-6:00pm for you to drop off your Rice Bowls. You can also send in your Rice Bowl donation (please send a check, no cash, for the amount collected) to: Catholic Relief Services CRS Rice Bowl P.O. Box 17090 Baltimore, Maryland 21297-0303

A Note of Gratitude from Father Matthew…

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your generous donations to Mater Christi during these challenging times that we are facing. Although we have been unable to celebrate Mass together, it is because of your kindness and generosity that we have been able to meet the fixed expenses at the parish while keeping our parish finances in a healthy state. With your continued support, we will be able to emerge from this crisis as a strong and unified parish family. As we look toward the future to the days that we can celebrate Mass together in praise and thanksgiving to God, please know that while we are apart that I pray for and miss all of our parishioners. Again, I would like to thank you all for your prayers, kindness, and generosity during these times. As our parish mission states, in the words of St. Paul, “Let us not grow weary of doing good.” (Galatians 6:9) May God Bless You Today and Always,

—Rev. Matthew A. Nemchausky

CONGRATULATIONS FR. LOU!

OUR PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU!

Pope Francis announced early Monday morning

(May 11, 2020) that he has named Reverend Louis

Tylka (Associate Pastor at St. Michael 1997-2003,

former Pastor of Mater Christi 2004-2014, and Cur-

rent Pastor of St. Julie Billiart) as the Coadjutor

Bishop of the Diocese of Peoria. This means that when the Bishop of Peoria retires, he will become the next

Bishop of Peoria.

The following was released by the Archdiocese of Chicago – “We welcome the appointment of Bishop-elect

Tylka as Coadjutor of the Diocese of Peoria and are pleased he will join the bishops of Illinois in working

cooperatively to serve the faithful in our state,“ said Cardinal Cupich. “He has proved himself to be a

compassionate and inspiring pastor and a strong advocate for priests and the priesthood. We look forward to

the contributions he will make to the Church in the coming years.”

“I am humbled and honored by this appointment,” said Bishop-elect Tylka. “I am grateful to the Holy

Father and encouraged by his confidence in me. I am looking forward to serving alongside Bishop Jenky

and learning from the priests, leaders and faithful in the Church of Central Illinois.”

2020 Annual Catholic Appeal “Come, follow me…and heal our world”

It has been 3 months since our ushers rolled out the 2020 Annual Catholic Appeal Commitment Weekend. A time when we gathered together for Mass, without fear of what was to come in the months ahead. We received many responses and pledge intentions during that weekend in mid-February. The greater Archdiocese of Chicago is grateful for the tremendous support. Together, Mater Christi Church was part of the 2019 Annual Catholic Appeal that ended with an impressive $14.8 million in cash pledges from 58,000 households. Our parishioners contributed over $17,400 to the appeal, just $260 short of reaching the 2019 goal set forth for our parish. Your participation and continual support is greatly needed for the 2020 Appeal, which funds Catholic schools in financially challenged communities, evangelization efforts, and the many services provided to those most in need by Catholic Relief Services. The Archdiocese goal for our parish is $19,891 and as of today, we have met almost half of that goal, $9,309 has been collected (47%). Once this goal is reached, any funds above this will be returned to our parish 100%. Pledge and donation envelopes were mailed or handed out during commitment weekend. If you have enrolled in our on line giving site, there is a convenient drop down menu that you can specify your donation be applied to the Annual Catholic Appeal. Please consider either a one-time gift or a larger recurring gift over 6 or more monthly payments. Spreading your donation over several months is always a manageable option, especially during these uncertain financial times. If you have any questions or need a pledge/donation envelope, please contact Kathleen Keen, Business Manager at [email protected] For more information or to make a donation now, please visit the Archdiocese of Chicago website at www.ArchChicago.org. Thank you and blessings to you for your generosity and support of the 2020 Annual Catholic Appeal.
