SERVICES

1. SST SERVICE PROGRAMS To have SST best utilized by mining, consulting and geotechnical engineering companies, Serata Probe is made available by lease, easily and effectively by the following three Service Programs with an assurance of success.

1) Trial Program This is a promotional arrangement made for the companies anxious to secure a franchised privilege in the areas of their application. The program will give them opportunities to learn the ease, usefulness and financial benefit of SST at a limited cost of direct expense.

2) Special Project Program For companies having major work projects, Probe application with SST support may be arranged with an assurance of major technical success. The leasing fee for the program will be arranged to assure major economic gain.

3) Franchised SST Program The companies who are already certain about the Technology and anxious to secure an established status in the global SST network, a franchised partnership is offered with the proprietary advantage for a long-term success.

2. SERVICE PACKAGE After the above site preparation, Serata Probe is ready for a large number of stress and property measurements. The number of the measurements ranged 10~60 per day depending upon required accuracy. The following are contents of Serata Probe package sufficient to carry out the measurement for a prolonged period of time. 1) Serata Probe (S): Single-Fracture probe (S-800A) for 66mm borehole

2) Field Computer: Notebook PC specially programmed for Probe operation 3) Electronic Section: Signal conditioning, orientation sensing & modem system

4) Borehole Caliper: Diametral caliper made for 66mm borehole 5) Junction Box: Communication center of the measurement system 6) Hydraulic Pump: Portable electrical pump to 70MPa operated by 120V AC. 7) High-Pressure Hose: 30m coil of high-pressure hose 8) Electric Cable: 30m coil of multiple conductor cable 9) End Seal Set: Set of end seals for replacement

10) Extension Rod: Set of 30m aluminum tubing 11) Mechanical Supplies: Field kit for mechanical parts and supplies

12) Electronic Supplies: Field kit for electronic parts and supplies 13) Others: All other items as needed

The field computer is equipped with a latest version of the operational software for data collection, signal conditioning, modem operation, data analysis, on-site analysis and real-time display. The computer is programmed to secure its operation for a certain prearranged period of time. All contents of the package are mutually checked at the shipment. General guidance and supporting advice needed for use of the system are provided by a formal training to be given to engineers at site of the application followed by a continuing backup support as needed. 3. TRAINING AND BACKUP SUPPORT Consulting and backup services are provided by Serata with a close communication for effective use of the system, which include the following.

1) Continuing SST Training Continuing SST training is provided following the startup training to meet specific application needs.

2) Probe Modification Standard Serata Probe is aimed at hard to medium hard rocks. However, special Probe may be custom made for super hard rocks as well as for soft fractured rocks. These modifications of Probe can be arranged to meet changing ground conditions.

3) Test Hole Protection In weak and complex ground, the proprietary borehole protection technique is utilized for repeated measurements. Aging analysis of ground is made possible by this adaptation.

4) Network Advantages A wide range of data collected and analyzed at SST Center in Fremont, California will be made available to SST users of the network.

5) Backup Services Technical questions raised at terminals are evaluated at the SST Center immediately for support of the terminals.

4. TEST PREPARATION SST application is best suited for any major earthwork, in which in-situ computer optimization is needed and beneficial. Test preparation for the application is simple and fast as summarized below.

1) Transportation Serata Probe package (115kg/250 lbs.) can be easily carried around any place as travel baggage and transported on land by a small station wagon.

2) Test Hole Drilling Test holes should be drilled at I.D. = 66mm ± 1 mm. However, there is no need of core recovery for material property testing in laboratory.

3) On-site Preparation The test site must be equipped with a power line (110V/AC) or a set of three auto batteries (12 VDC) for the operation.

4) Probe Setup Time Time requirement for Probe setup at the site is less than one hour.

5) Possible Difficulties A major potential difficulty is instability of borehole if it is drilled in soft/fractured ground. This has to be stabilized by grouting prior to start the test.
