From the Souhegan Cooperative School Board Congratulations, Class of 2011 e School Board would like to congratulate the Class of 2011 on the culmination of their studies at Souhegan High School. It probably feels like the end of a long road has been reached, but this is just the begin- ning of a new path that will hopefully lead to many positive experiences and great opportunities. We wish you the best of luck in the pursuit of your goals and dreams. We also welcome the Class of 2015 to the Souhegan community. We hope that you will take full advantage of the many learning experiences available to you at Souhegan to expand and accelerate your intellectual growth. is, our last column of the school year, will be a high level review of some of the topics we’ve been working on with the school administra- tion and the SAU this past year. • The 2011-2012 Budget was voted in by the public in the most trying economic environment in the history of the school. We worked hard this year to bring a budget that met the school needs while having a minimal impact to the taxpayers. We are grateful for your support. • A new two year agreement with staff was negotiated and approved by the voters as well. The negotiation process was long and difficult for all, but all parties were respectful and understanding of the issues we face as a community and a school, and we believe the approved agreement is a win-win-win for staff, school and taxpayers. • After receiving a comprehensive report on the state of our facilities from Gale Associates last Fall, we began a methodical implementa- tion of repairs and renovations to address the needs and deficien- cies identified. • The 2012 Adequate Yearly Progress results have been reviewed and discussed. Whole-school results in reading and math continue to show improvements, while writing remains problematic. Failure to make AYP is caused by subgroup performance, which is receiving considerable attention, and does show year-over-year improvement. • The School Calendar Committee has spent much of the year working with stakeholders and studying the possibility of implementing a re- vised school calendar based on hours of instruction instead of days. The 2011-12 calendar is still based on 180 days, but the Commit- tee is working through the many obstacles that must be overcome to make implementation possible in 2012-13 across all the schools K-12. • Principal Jon Ingram is completing his first year as our new principal, while Superintendent Mary Athey Jennings is completing her final year as Superintendent. Our new Superintendent, Peter Warbur- ton, will take over on July 1, and has already begun participating in selected activities to make a smooth transition from his current SAU to ours. • The SCSB Board Meetings continue to be televised live in Am- herst on Comcast Educational Channel 21, with repeats scheduled throughout the month until the next meeting. We invite you to attend the School Board meetings. For informa- tion on our schedule, please go to http://sprise.com and click on Board Meetings under Quick Links.
