Classical Pianist Performs for Benefit Scholarship Fund at High Mowing School
Wilton-- Pianist Henry lew-ers performs a solo recital at High Mowing School on Thursday, June 2 at 7:00 pm. The program includes classical works by Rachmaninoff, Arndt, Beach, Granados, and Dello Joio followed by jazz selections ac-companied by drummer Judy Bru-neau. Congratulations, Class of 2011The School Board would like to congratulate the Class of 2011 on the
culmination of their studies at Souhegan High School. it probably feels like the end of a long road has been reached, but this is just the begin-ning of a new path that will hopefully lead to many positive experiences and great opportunities. We wish you the best of luck in the pursuit of your goals and dreams.
We also welcome the Class of 2015 to the Souhegan community. We hope that you will take full advantage of the many learning experiences available to you at Souhegan to expand and accelerate your intellectual growth.
This, our last column of the school year, will be a high level review of some of the topics we’ve been working on with the school administra-tion and the SAU this past year. • The2011-2012Budgetwasvotedinbythepublicinthemosttrying
economicenvironmentinthehistoryoftheschool.Weworkedhardthisyeartobringabudgetthatmettheschoolneedswhilehavingaminimalimpacttothetaxpayers.Wearegratefulforyoursupport.
• Anewtwoyearagreementwithstaffwasnegotiatedandapprovedbythevotersaswell.Thenegotiationprocesswaslonganddifficultforall,butallpartieswererespectfulandunderstandingoftheissueswefaceasacommunityandaschool,andwebelievetheapprovedagreementisawin-win-winforstaff,schoolandtaxpayers.
• AfterreceivingacomprehensivereportonthestateofourfacilitiesfromGaleAssociateslastFall,webeganamethodicalimplementa-tionofrepairsandrenovationstoaddresstheneedsanddeficien-ciesidentified.
• The2012AdequateYearlyProgressresultshavebeenreviewedanddiscussed.Whole-schoolresultsinreadingandmathcontinuetoshowimprovements,whilewritingremainsproblematic.FailuretomakeAYPiscausedbysubgroupperformance,whichisreceivingconsiderableattention,anddoesshowyear-over-yearimprovement.
• TheSchoolCalendarCommitteehasspentmuchoftheyearworkingwithstakeholdersandstudyingthepossibilityofimplementingare-visedschoolcalendarbasedonhoursofinstructioninsteadofdays.The2011-12calendarisstillbasedon180days,buttheCommit-teeisworkingthroughthemanyobstaclesthatmustbeovercometomakeimplementationpossiblein2012-13acrossalltheschoolsK-12.
• PrincipalJonIngramiscompletinghisfirstyearasournewprincipal,whileSuperintendentMaryAtheyJenningsiscompletingherfinalyearasSuperintendent.OurnewSuperintendent,PeterWarbur-ton,willtakeoveronJuly1,andhasalreadybegunparticipatinginselectedactivitiestomakeasmoothtransitionfromhiscurrentSAUtoours.
• TheSCSBBoardMeetingscontinuetobetelevisedliveinAm-herstonComcastEducationalChannel21,withrepeatsscheduledthroughoutthemonthuntilthenextmeeting.

Joshua Daniel Brackett from Mont Vernon and a graduate of Souhegan High School has been awarded a north Carolina textile Foundation Paul & John logue Prestige Schol-arship to study in a textile degree program at nC State. The Prestige scholarship is valued at $8,000 over a period of 4 years. During high school, Joshua was actively involved in Boy Scouts. He participated for over eleven years and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He held vari-ous leadership positions and coor-dinated several community service projects through his troop. He also organized a fundraiser for the VH1 Save the Music Foundation, and performed benefit concerts for Hai-ti Relief efforts. Joshua is a talented musician and key player in his high school’s concert, marching, and jazz bands. He was recognized as lead percussionist in the pit orches-tra, and as a member of the honors band. Joshua was nominated to be-come a member of the international tri-M Music Honor Society and the new England Ambassadors or Mu-sic. While at nC State, Joshua in-tends to study textile Engineering. Evan Jost from Amherst was re-cently one of only 16 northeastern University seniors honored with a 2011 outstanding Cooperative Ed-ucation Award. Evan graduated on May 6 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Physics.
over the past 5 years Evan has completed three co-op assignments. For his first co-op experience, Evan worked in the Photonic depart-ment at BAE Systems in nashua, nH where he developed a low-cost
missile threat warning system using two-color focal plane technology. For his second co-op, Evan worked at Merrill lynch & Co. in new York in the Global treasury unit. Evan then worked for John Hancock Fi-nancial in Boston doing Actuarial Pricing.
