Fn'AL PUBLIC EXAMINATION.-In the absence of any legis­lation on the subject in the tate of Iowa, the Faculty of thisDepartment has ver recognized the right of the medicalprofession of the Stat to an investigation of the qualificationsof all its graduate. Ac ordingly there i always appointedby the Board of Regent of the Univer ity an examining com­mittee from the member hip of the tate Medical Society whotake part in the examination of all applicants for graduationduring the two day preceding the clo e of the session. Theexamination of the tudents in the graded course i also con­ducted by this committee, and the chairman affixe his signa­ture to all certificates of satisfactory examination of such stu­dents.

MusEulII.-The museum contain a large and interesting col­lection of morbid and other specimens, furnishing a valuableaid to in truction in it large am unt of material illustl'ativeof pathological and normal condition.. Thi is con tantlydrawn upon a a mean f demon tration.

THE ASSOCIATION OF

AMERICAN MEDICAL COLLEGES.

At a meeting held in Chicago, June 2 and 4, 1877, of repre­sentatives from various medical colleges of the country, a per­manent organization was formed under the above title, and aConstitution, By-Laws and Articles of Confederation wereadopted. Article IX of the Constitution requires that allcolleges belonging to the association shall publish the "Arti·cles of Confederation" in their annual catalogue for at leastthree consecutive years after joining the association. In ac­cordance with tbi requirement we give below

ARTICLE 1. OF THE F ACUL'l'Y.'rhe medical m mbers of the Faculty must be regular graduate

or licentiates and pmctitioners of medicine, in good standing, usingthe word "regular" in the sense commonly understood in the med­ical profe ion.

AR'rWLE II. OF TUITION.

SEC'l'ION 1. 'rhe scheme of tuition shall provide for a yeadysystematic cours of instruction covering the general topic. of Ana­tomy, Including the sections, Physiology, Chemistry, Materia Me­dica and Thempcutics, Obstetrics, Surgcry, Pathology and Practiceof Medicine. 'rile collegiate se' ion, wh rein thi COUl'S is given,shall be understood as the "regular" session.

SEC'l'ION 2. Said regular session shall not be less then twentyweeks in duration. 'rhis scction to go in force at and after the ses­sion of 1879-80.

SEC'l'ION 3. Not more than one regular ion, counting theregular se ion a one of th two courscs of instruction required forgraduation, shall be held in the same year.
